Perhaps they're making us wait and foam at the mouth like this so that when they do finally stick us with a not-quite-comfortable UK price, we'll lap it up just the same and feel grateful it finally got here at all ! heh.

This sounds possible to me!

I still think, however, that they will wait and see how the first weekend of sales works out in the USA, then they will allocate a presale/release date for the next batch accordingly. If sales in the States go super-well (which I think they will), then we could see a delay to the UK release.

A company the size of Apple pretty much just doesn't work that way, their plans will have already been made weeks ago, we're really just waiting for them to announce it.

Although you'd hope that by now they'd be packing UK iPads into UK iPad boxes which look like they'll have a different interior to accommodate the UK plug/adaptor.

Hopefully we won't see a delay but I can foresee limited stocks.

Here's hoping for presale!

+1 agreed

lets face their marketing strategy is often flawless.

It's not a matter of how good Apple are at planning, it's about supply and demand and the output capacity of the supplying factories in China. Apple can't sell what they don't have, no matter how you look at it. As such, I would bet my last dollar that if sales are rocketing in the US, then some of the future stock which is currently earmarked for other countries will be diverted to the US market to meet demand, existing orders etc.

You will probably be referring to an unboxed iPad, straight from factory. I can't imagine a UK box going to US.

It would be a pretty monumental disaster for a company like Apple to only be drawing up it's international plans a few weeks before their own scheduled release. Every aspect of a product launch takes a lot of time and logistics to plan, and work on it will have begun months ago. It would take serious shortages for Apple to delay the international release at this stage, they will have had it penned in their calendars for weeks.

If they are showing so much "attention to detail" then I would expect more concrete "details" than "late April" and "prices to be announced" with less than 4 weeks to go. I am huge fan of Apple, but right now I'm calling it how I see it.

Agreed, it is total bs, apparently the 24th has been blacklisted for holidays at Apple stores both in Canada and the EU, so it's pretty likely that that'll be the release date, so what they are waiting for to tell us I don't know..

Got any links that actually specify that this day is a blackout for EU stores as well as Canadian stores ? A quick look on Google only shows that it is a confirmed blackout for Canadian stores, UK store that have been asked so far "declined to comment".
Not saying it isn't true, just saying so far I can't find any proof of it being EU stores too. If you have, I'd be glad to read it. Because I have nothing else to read right now but iPad tidbits and plainly am a sad case. ;)

Gah, I can't bloody find it now, but I found a report claiming that EU stores had the same blackout.

What else could be the reason for the Canadian one anyway? And I doubt Canada would get a release before UK/France/Ireland etc.

The UK box isn't gong to be bigger than the US counterpart. Maybe you guys don't know because you have never seen the european version but the power bit and the plug adapter are seperate so it can be laid out flat and fit in similar sized space it takes up the same amount of vertical space.

Have you seen the iPad unboxing videos/pics? The adaptor has the pins built in and it looks very snug. No way I can see the UK plug adaptor fitting in there too.

Take a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrqKVKhNNx4

The box will be the same size but it'll need a different insert I suspect!

I hope you're right. You probably are. But right now I am viewing Apple as if it were a dog who might be nice to someone else, but bite my hand off if I got too familiar. ;) (That's a crappy analogy I know, and even more so because I've never been bitten by a dog or met one that didn't like me. heh heh.)

Basically what I'm saying is, I don't want to get my hopes up in case they get dashed.

Feckkit, who am I kidding ? I wouldn't be reading this damn forum every day and scouring the web for iPad info if I wasn't getting hopeful !

Well, today didn't happen, perhaps tomorrow.

Yup. Maybe tomorrow. It's hopeful that the UK app store has iPad apps now, anyhoo, so let's hope that's an indication that it will be soon.

There are some iPad apps, but Apple ones aren't available in the App Store yet.

I am kind of hoping that the 3G version will be released at the same time as the Wifi version in the UK. Probably a forlorn hope ...

None of the apple adapters have built in pins. My Macbook plug can be taken off and fitted with American style pins or Euro style pins. My iPhone plug can do the same. You can see the separation area where you can pull off the American adapter and fit something else on.

Okay, I'm obviously not making myself clear.

It's not built in but it comes packed and wrapped with the adaptor/pins pre fitted in a snug slot in the tray that fits inside the iPad box.

It really is irrelevant whether it's built in or not for the purpose of my point but yes, my ipods, iphones, macbooks all have removable adaptors and I'm in the UK so I'm well aware of how this works. Seriously.

My point was/is that more space would be required in the tray that fits inside the box to accommodate the UK adaptor/plug.

Okay is that clearer now?

same happened with the iphone, I'm pretty sure the UK packaging was larger than the US due to the plug!!
no big deal!!

Yeah the plastic part of the adapter is the same height as the width of the power brick part, it's just the pins sticking up making it higher. So yeah, the box will be bigger. no biggie

I know, I KNOW!! This started when it was said that Apple may start siphoning off the UK iPads to keep the US supplies up.

I replied "you'd hope that by now they'd be packing UK iPads into UK iPad boxes which look like they'll have a different interior to accommodate the UK plug/adaptor."

That's all... didn't need anyone to start a debate on how the adaptors fit together.

sigh
