Crazy people

I wouldn't refuse it only if Steve himself comes to my door and gives it to me free of charge.

Saying that, even then I still wouldn't know what exactly to do with it...

Oh suddenly now you wouldn't refuse? Was only a month or two ago that you wouldn't accept it even if Steve himself came to your door.

Your comments on the iPad have been nothing but utterly worthless.

RE: Cardiff Apple Store

£700 outlay? why not spend £400 and use it as the media consumption toy that it was originally designed to be?

Because if I'm going to get one I'd want 64GB with Wi Fi + 3G, otherwise £400 would be a waste imo. I've got £500 put aside for the new iPhone and another amount for a new MBP or iMac OR even a Mac Pro if it gets a major update. I'm mentally reshuffling my Apple line-up so I can justify the iPad. It won't hurt to sleep on it and wait a few months I suppose. Although having said that, we'll probably start getting rumors of what the 2011 iPad will be like

Surf the web - won't be able to see at very least half of the sites I view on daily bases due to lack of Flash player...

check your email - can already do it on my phone, iPod Touch, laptop and desktop. I don't think I need 5th device to check my email.

tweet, chat, watch some movies - podcasts- YouTube clips, play some music, play some games, do a little word processing - same as per above...

iPad = one mega yawn...

Can't be a mega yawn if the lines are so long. Apple TV is more a mega yawn.

People said that with GUI OSs back in the day. DOS users could still do word processing and spreadsheets and just didn't "get" why you would need to move to a Mac or Windows environment. Somethings are still better with a desktop OS but other things are better with the iPad. The iPhone is nice but for some things like the web or books, the iPad does better.

I thought the web experience would be terrible and I wouldn't be able to do much on the web but not having flash isn't as bad as it sounds. I can see why people would want the web to change to HTML 5 after using an iPad.

I am kinda getting the impression that the majority of people still dont exactly know what an iPad actually is. I think many people believe it is a replacement for a regular desktop or laptop.

Apple...thats what I would call good marketing.:D

What are you talking about? I know exactly what it *is*, and for me that is a laptop replacement! Though I have only been able to read about it and handle one for 30 seconds, I have organized my work around it already in anticipation of getting one ASAP.

I have been desktop based -- doing heavier things like PS, video editing etc. and I have actually never had a laptop of my own. I don't intend to ever get a laptop now. I know I will be able to do everything I want and more on an iPad, having tried apps on my iPod Touch. I create a lot of websites but do all the maintenance through the browser as they are running on a CMS on the server. All I need is a browser, maybe a text editor for CSS, etc., and then Keynote to make presentations and mockups for clients (can't wait for this!). Can't wait to work outside in the garden or at the seaside or in a cafe instead of mostly in my office.

True, but some want it in their hands right away and also love the atmosphere and buzz in those queues. I was that way too, a long, long (cough, wheeze) time ago :D I'm more patient now and besides, my country isn't served yet.

I always pre order anything from Apple like this here in the USA and usually hear Fed-Ex at the door either the day before release or early on the day of the release. I have never been let down. Given this experience I can recommend avoiding the wait. Mind you, I used to queue for a long time for Stones tickets in my day but no one offered to Fed-Ex them to me. :D

On behalf of myself and all AAPL share holders ... Thank you, live long and prosper. :)

Suddenly!?!?

It took me about 2 months of careful consideration to conclude that I would actually accept one - free of charge - but only if Steve himself delivers it to me...

:p

The line ups in Toronto haven't been bad at all.
The biggest Apple store in Toronto supposedly has about 100 people in line.

I guess being so close to the US border, people who REALLY REALLY wanted one just went to Buffalo and bought one.

Heard a lot about this on the radio, quite surprised by how popular the iPad has been, I'm a bit disappointed that people have gotten this hyper over what is essentially just a overblown iPod touch, but whatever floats your boat I guess. I just hope with the extra money Apple makes they'll hire more devs and engineers so their mac devision doesn't get so left behind....

A lot of us in Canada who pre-ordered for the May 28th got a nasty shock late Thursday when FedEx changed the delivery date from the 28th to the 31st.

When I phoned FedEx they blamed Apple for delaying the shipment leaving China, but I read elsewhere it was a problem with a FedEx plane. As it is now mine is still sitting in Memphis Tennessee :(

Well, mine is apparently sitting in Mississauga and still on track for delivery before 12PM.

If they are shipping hundreds of thousands (as I have seen estimates of up to 900,000 International pre-orders) - some might be late but as Forrest Gump said "s**t happens".

There are some things in this world which I will never understand, one of them is waiting in line for some hyped product which will be available for immediate purchase in person or online couple of days later. This is some kind of fetish.

Live and let live of course but still, I do not understand how one can be so reckless with his precious life time.

I'm really surprised about the lines. For some reason, I thought people would have the option to mail order an iPad.

For many people its not as much fun. There is something to going to the apple store and getting one, its all in the mind after all. ;)

Crazy Hype.
Walked into my local PC World an hour ago.
They've got all models in stock, apparently they've sold 6 so far today... No queues.. nobody even looking at them apart from staff.

I saw people waiting in line at the Ginza Apple store holding these big black umbrellas with the Apple logo printed on it. Did Apple give 1 to everybody waiting in line?

No. They were give to those in line who wanted a bit of shade (or if it had rained...) but they took them back once the line worked it's way back into the shade. I should have nicked one!

We did get free drinks though!

Same here at Brighton PCWorld about midday. One person trying out the iPad, 3 bored looking staff hanging around with nothing to do and according to the glimpse of the screen I got they had 12 32Gb WiFi models in stock (well, 11 now :) ).

Kind of the same thing when guys act stupid over a girl, considering how many there are and how easy it is to get one.

Everyone has different likes and wants, for some its the cool metal ipad, for others is that tight ass :p down the board walk.

I'm not sure why this is being reported as a long queue?

The Regent Street store always has enormous queues at new product launches. That queue is really actually quite a poor showing compared to any of the iPhone launches, even the 2G (and the 2G did *not* sell great in the UK - it was too expensive, and was available in a lot more stores than the iPad at launch).

Phazer

Just keep fillin...

... Steves pockets. Very soon it's not gonna be cool at all to have something not supporting Flash. Androids are gonna crushya!

Apple should be forced putting a big red sticker on these toys, saying "NO FLASH SUPPORT! LIMITED WEB-EXPERIENCE."

Mine "departed" Memphis at 3:39am on the 27th....but no update since :(
