First off, iPad Mini was announced basically a year ago almost to the day.

Secondly, what percentage of Apple's sales are Macs right now? 10 percent on a good day?

Yes, it makes perfect sense to have Mac related only items have their own specific event with the tagline "We still have a lot to cover" with another event in London as well for their weakest sellers.

The App Store almost beats Mac sales in terms of revenue...

This was the greatest personal computer company in the world before it turned into an iToy show.

The iPads are definitely the main headliner of this event. DUH!

That's the only thing I am sure of, as next to iPhone, iPad is the biggest moneymaker. It needs a separate event.

At what point did 'Apple' only make computers? 1980s?

And what other manufacturer ONLY makes computers, or primarily makes computers? There isn't one!

So what's your point?

The Mac Pro will also get a significant amount of stage time.

The rMBP spec bump might get a brief mention.

There will be a feel-good video about the opening of a new store.

OR-- they could spend 2 hours talking about the All New iPod Classic!

Jim Dairymple

Can someone please explain the mysterious Jim Dairymple to me? *It appears that he has significant (and accurate) connections within Apple. *Here is what I don't understand. *He indeed gets inside info. *And, it seems that he does not give this info out in his blogs UNLESS someone asks him, (I assume it has to be someone important with high visability). *Then he can give his famous 'yep' or 'nope'. *Is this his way of advertising himself? *How long is he willing to sit on info if no one asks his? *Or does he make sure someone, somewhere, does indeed ask him?

Never thought Retina iPad mini would be such a big deal (retina or bust)....

Great job brainwashing consumers Apple. Now they will be ready with their wallet to buy new iDevices.

That day won't be too far when people will say...

TouchID for new iDevice or I am not buying it!

iPod Classic - now that's wishful thinking unless The Beatles (Paul, Ringo and those in behalf of John and George) agreed on a special edition (so epically more special than U2's then).

Edit: that's a given - there will be cameo appearances or short performances by the front acts :p

This was the greatest personal computer company in the world before it turned into an iToy show.

Because the world has moved on to mobile. How would being a niche computer company be good for Apple. Doesn't seem to be working out so great for Dell or HP.

Some would argue computing is more and more personal with iPhones and iPads than desktops ever were.

huh?

What happened to the greatest dumb cell phone maker? (Cough Nokia)

Apple is still the greatest personal computer company and revolutionizing another industry before they become irrelevant or else they will just become an also-ran having only that greatest title from you.

yes, a new classic would be great. but they can only talk for 1:45 hours, then its champions league. sorry :apple:

yep

You can't call this "The iPad Media Event" -- we don't even know iPads are on the menu...gosh.

iPads are usually released in the Spring, not the Fall.

Did you not read any of the recent posts on this site that you also happen to be on right now?

Or are you one of those irritating people who insist on reminding us that we don't know for sure what's going to happen because all of the information we have is technically just rumors? That's a good way to go, because even after you're proven wrong, you can say that technically you weren't wrong, because we still didn't know for sure beforehand?

Also, as other people already pointed out, the iPad Mini and iPad 4 were released last Fall. See how easy it is to miss out on details when you're in too much of a rush to be contrary with everyone?

MR posters never fail to confuse me.

So "a lot to cover"

=

A. A lot of iGadgets announcements
B. a lot of colorful smart covers for the next iPads. ( so basically, it will be a lot of iPad announcements?)

It's a miracle! Let me be the first. Or do the celebratory toast err post about it. No stupid posts or whambulance posters so far whinging on our gorgeous iO7 icons or posting their alternate dumb versions of the icons.

Could mean the iPad Jumbo, or sorry, jumbo (small j) (i.e one big iPad). Or iPad mini, iPad5 and the iPad jumbo (i.e. many iPads).

It’s not that Dalrymple waits for someone to ask him for a yep/nope — when a report gains traction, or comes from a “reputable” source, that’s when he’ll link to the post with his yep/nope.

I also think that you’re wrong in assuming he has the information beforehand. I think the way it would work is, when he sees a report, he’d ask his inside sources to confirm or deny it (or they would contact him) — he doesn’t get the confirmation until after the story has already broken.

Yeah, that's always been my assumption, that someone at Apple calls Jim and says, "hey we need a rumor quashed", or "we need to generate some excitement about this" and Jim gives his yep or nope to it.

Since Apple has the policy of not commenting on rumors, Jim is the unofficial official Apple spokesperson. I don't recall him ever being wrong, but I agree that he may not know that much more than the rest of us on most things until Apple gives him the tap.
