7" Kindle Fire HD 32GB is $249.

4" iPod Touch 32GB is $299.

How does Apple release a 7" tablet for anything less than $349. ?

iBooks looks nice, but unless you get the app to read books from Amazon, B&N, etc., I won't use it. I had a small library of Kindle books when the iPad came out. I don't want to start segmenting my library needlessly, so I have stuck with Kindle.

All of these manufacturers/publishers need to work this out. You see how sluggish the digital video market is because everything is layered with DRM and requires a certain app and platform to run. It's hardly the interoperable experience of buying digital music from anywhere and playing it anywhere.

I would also love to see textbook publishers get serious about digital and provide their books for reduced prices. I'm taking an online course for free, and there are three recommended texts. One is a $13 book that I bought. The other two are huge textbooks that aren't available digitally and cost more than $100 each. Surely these could be dropped in price a lot if they are available digitally, especially since they won't have resale value like actual books do.

What about iPad mini and iBook2?

We hope Books like this http://bit.ly/IbookIpad fits well in iPad Mini. This is the first Ibook2 wine catalogue ever made on that format*and will soon be in English and Spanish. Thanks.

Exactly.

IPod touch is €329 here... Even.

Safe money has to be €349 for 16gb iPad mini basic, no retina.
A Slim chance then we will have a 16gb iPad mini HD for €449

Putting them right between the cheapest iPad 9.7" and the new iPad.

relax it will have it. they're using SHARPS new IGZO display tech. I promise!

You promised me many things that drunken night we shared a donna kebab and half a bottle of vodka & red bull as we gazed up into the stars. Remember how we laughed as the stars danced (admittedly we were off our nuts at the time on some of those e's your mate pilfered) and then you made some big big promises....... And then the earth moved (cue 70's porn music)...

And look at us now... You can't even remember any of it happening :( let alone the promises you made... You just act like it was all just made up  :(. It's like what I've written is somehow made up, even if I Promise it isn't...

So forgive us our skepticism if we don't just take 'your promise' as anything other than the ramblings of a blaggard.... ;)

J/k. (Yes this is a joke people. I would never drink red-bull)

A few users are talking about pricing at $299? Isn't this what the entry iPod touch is at?

I just don't understand what Apple are going to do? Any more than $299, will be too expensive.

Maybe that's why the new iPod line hasn't shipped yet? (Prices may be changed?) idk.

Thoughts?

I dont think the mini is a kindle competitor so price comparable price points are not on Apple's mind.

I hope its a fully functional smaller version of the ipad.

It must have LTE of its an epic fail for me as all I want a smaller, lighter iPad.

No... the new iPod Touch starts at $299 and goes to $399

Apple still sells the old iPod Touch for $199

If the iPad Mini is real... it could become the entry-level iPad at $299.

So... it could be this:

iPod Touch line... $199 to $399

iPad line: $299 to $829

I doubt highly there will be cellular option, much like how the iPod Touch doesn't have cellular option.

Chances are based on product iD's found in iOS 6, a 16gb wifi only.

Make sense. I'd prefer a book on a smaller 7.85" tablet than 9.7". This could be a hit for kids not wanting to carry the 9.7" tablet. Parents will love this!

If true, this is gonna be further evidence that Apple has lost the initiative, becoming just a me-too company under Cook.

A smaller iPad is as irrelevant as a 30-inch iPhone; there is absolutely no need for it, especially now that the iPhone 5 already has a 4-inch screen, and that every app has been conceived with the 9-inch screen size in mind.

A terrible move by Apple, in my view.

Baloney. There clearly IS a market for smaller tablets, as evidenced by the success of the Kindles and the Nexus 7. Many, many people on this forum would buy a smaller form factor over the current iPad.

And I guess you missed the discussion about how the Mini's screen is 7.85" precisely so current iPad apps can run on it without any tweaking.

They will claim they did it "right" or some jargon. I just can't wait to have a good laugh when they do their proverbial video on the mini when Ive goes something like...

"You know it's truly.....................amazing..........when you can get hardware............to a smaller form size..........while maintaining what made it amazing."

Yep!:D

I'll ask if I can get a guarantee that there won't be another off topic whine about the desktop line in every single thread until the event/announcement, when/if it happens. Deal?

You can get a guarantee from me at least. :)

Isn't that a bit narrow-minded? People said that about the iPad and look where it is now. There are indications that many people favour a smaller iPad above the current size.

It might not be relevant to you (or for me, because I like the current size), but that doesn't mean it's irrelevant to others. Look at that Samsung Galaxy note cellphone...

Apple executive Eddy Cue said in an email released during the Apple v. Samsung trial that he "found email, books, Facebook and video very compelling" on a 7-inch Samsung Galaxy tablet.

Eddy Cue should be fired then. No one who finds Facebook compelling should be shaping the future of Apple products.

If true, this is fantastic news. My company has put a lot of effort into converting our books for the iBookstore. Would really like to see the iBookstore give Amazon some serious competition.

I'm interested in your company's products. Is it manga? Is it in English? Could you provide link to said products via PM?
