Way Too expensive

I was thinking about the iPad mini and iPod Touch - however the price points are way too expensive and Asus/Google have a few tricks up their sleeves for both Apple and Microsoft.

Why spend a fortune on Apple branded product when the Nexus 7 is being updated with a cheap entry point 32G model by months end and a anticipated 3G model as well.

Given the price points and as a person on a full Apple ecosystem - iMac, mac mini, iPhone, iPad 3 and iTouch - the Nexus 7 or Asus Infinity are beginning to look like better options than what Apple is offering - indeed, I'm more inclined to purchase something with a MicroSD capability than crippled storage and all this Cloud ********e.

Apple's price premium is now becoming absurd as is its neglect of OSX/Desk tops - all they now obsess about is stock price and stock options - a total rip off!!!!

$330 for iPad Mini vs $450 for iPad 3rd gen refurb from the apple store.....I'd rather pay the extra $120 and just get a full blown iPad.

This is bunk. The entry level model will be $299. All those prices will be shifted by -$30.

The Nexus 7 is great because it's cheap and...I can add extra storage when I manage to save another $30 for a MicroSD card? To store all those cool phone apps on a tablet loaded with ads because nobody pays for apps on Android? Since it's the OS for cheap customers? Cool?

I'll be surprised if this leak is accurate. I'm expecting 16GB at $300 based on the existing iPad offering. If I'm wrong I won't bother buying this model.

I wouldn't bother buying anything with only 8gb, but I'm sure the average consumer wouldn't know the difference. Basically, Apple could also get away with not even putting a retina display in there and wouldn't matter an ounce of a difference. The consumer who goes out shopping on Black Friday will not know the difference.

As for that price, I can't tell I'm surprised. I also can't tell if it will matter at the end of the day. Apple had made billions off of little brats begging their parents for anything with an Apple logo on it and it has worked.

Actually, most people who buy stuff with an Apple logo on it are adults who make middle to high incomes.

IF this is true,

all I can say is RETINA confirmed.

Not that we've got that said, 329$ is just too high.

The thing with retina is the Hd apps eat up a lot of memory. I have had every version and the biggest bang for the buck for me was the iPad 2!

My sorry eyes did not notice a huge difference in the screens when placed side by side. Some yes, but no biggie!

Bring on the mini with ipad 2 specs and a fair price and im in! I could care less if the 7.85 inch screen is retina. Infact, I'd prefer it didn't. They may offer the best mini with a retina screen and make the other mini's affordable for parents with kids in school. ;)

That would satisfy a hell of a lot of people. The best of both worlds. We shall see soon enough! :D

Please read my post, you cannot add storage via a microSD card to a Nexus 7 - that's it main drawback and if it included a microSD option I'd own one now - particularly given the fact you can add up to 128G storage - most expensive though but 64G can be had for approx. US$50.00.

Looking at Asus and Apple iPad, be it the big one or small one, I'm now more inclined to move to the Asus TF300 or Asus Infinity.

My gripe with Apple is simple, lack of storage options and its pushing of the cloud - where I live we already have poor broadband speeds and IPad date contracts are crazy - so the cloud is not a option and Asus at least offer MicroSD and hopefully a Quad Core Snap Dragon equipped shortly - don't think it will give a A6X chip a run for its money though but thats another discussion - my concern is, and always is Storage and Apple fail miserably on this particularly given neither the iPod Touch or iPad have ever received a storage bump, so effectively Apple is becoming a 'no choice' business with an emphasis on the Cloud - similar to MS in many respects.

To be fair to Apple, the thing that originally put me off the iPad was the screen - its seemed highly pixelated to me, so the 'Retina' was a huge improvement and hence purchased one for the family - my daughter loves it and her iTouch - just a shame neither offer 128G storage, particularly given many games are now over 1G in size.

Not gonna happen

I will be the first to say, this iPad mini stuff is crap. It makes no sense for apple to sell a product that will steal sales from the iPod touch. We have seen some part but I still doubt the iPad mini will be come. Also 329! What kind of pricing is that. Hell $333 at least could be a marketing gimmick. Why in the world would apple (likes to sell premium) sell an iPod touch and iPad mini for the same price? All it would do is hurt iPod touch sales and hurt iPad sale. Apple is not going to poach themselves. You price the iPad mini for $400 but then why not send $100 and get an iPad. Also think about your buying the iPad mini because you can't afford an iPad. What kind of logic is that, I thought the iPod touch was to fill the void until your pockets got full of more cash. I had been in tech for years, I will be shocked if apple actually builds an iPad mini. Think of all the r&d, cost of production and the iOS scaling that developers will be faced with. iPhone/iPod touch res, iPad mini and iPad. That would suck from a dev perspective. Hell half my apps still don't work with the iPhone 5 res. No matter how I look at it it makes no sense. It's a total pipe dream for fan boys.

We are going to see Mac mini, iMac and 13 MacBook Pro. Maybe iPad 3.5 update/minor refresh for the holiday. They got to push out the new connector as fast as possible or it will fail. Can have devices with legacy connectors on the market.

No way there is an iPad min. Heck I'm still waiting for my iPhone mini that was rumored 3 years ago. Ha

all i'm going to say is ... one day they leaked prices starting from $249
and a day or so later they leaked new prices starting from $329

This is just apple gauging reaction to find a middle ground how obvious.

you don't know what prices are going to be so just wait around for more entertainment.

299 and I would've bought two; one for me, one for my parents. 329 and I'll pass. Makes no sense? I don't care.
so for an extra $30 you wouldn't buy it?!? you're an idiot.

That's because I don't need it in the first place. 300 is something like a magic number for me: up to 300 it's personal entertainment, above 300 and it is an investment. Or something like that. And since it's above that line, the "I don't need it anyway" kicks in and I'll call it a day. I know it sounds stupid, but reading this thread: I'm not alone with this

This is 'that' apple that i dont like. They have soooo much money on the bank but still they want more, more, more. Whats the price of other 7" tablets? 199? 249? So 329 is a ripoff! It's that typical 'people will buy it anyway' attitude of apple that i really dont like...

If this is true there is too many good android tablets for alot less, They are releasing the Nexus with 32 gb for $249 thats a far better deal here.

Same here. I'll obviously wait to hear it from Apple, and for the Google announcement a few days later, but it seems a Nexus 7 will be the choice for me. I had the new iPad (32GB) and the 1st gen when it came out. I love the iPad, but my needs for it have changed and now I'd prefer something smaller. The Nexus 7 is perfectly good for what I need it for. If they were priced the same, I'd get the iPad mini just for the Apple ecosystem (I use Macs) and especially if it has Retina display. But no retina and more expensive that Nexus 7? Nah, I think I'll be getting my first ever Android device. Also, the rumours that the 32GB Nexus 7 will cost what the 16GB currently costs, and the 16GB will take the place of the 8GB swings it even more it their favour.

But you never know. Apple still have their chance to impress!

Have fun with all those super awesome Android apps... If anyone is thinking about getting their "first Android" you should probably consider the quality of the ecosystem... I just don't think they compare.

I'm curious... Is this a "cheap" price point for people? If $30 has people up in arms, for something that, retina or not, is sure to be stunning... Are you just looking for something that you'll never put a case on, toss in your bag and go kind of device?

For me, cheap hardware doesn't necessarily convince me to make the purchase. At the end of the day I want to be able to use it for more than just surfing the web.

8gb is pointless... I'm wishing I'd got the 32gb iPhone 5 over the 16... I only have 1gb free space left...

Me. All I want out of this announcement is the rumored slightly updated full size iPad... The rest is bonus

I think we'll see the following:

iPad Mini 16GB Wifi: $349
iPad Mini 32GB Wifi: $449
iPad Mini 64GB Wifi: $549
- A5X processor
- Facetime Camera
- NO rear camera
- Retina Display
- Lightning Connector

4th Gen. iPad 16GB Wifi: $499
4th Gen. iPad 32GB Wifi: $599
4th Gen. iPad 64GB Wifi: $699
- A6 processor
- HD facetime camera
- New display tech.
- Lightning Connector
- Stereo Speakers

I'm really enjoying reading everyone get all bent out of shape from a pricing chart that is "LIKELY" to be true. Just wait until Tuesday before you pop the Zanies.

For all we know, Apple could do away with the iPad 2 and call what-ever it is that they announce on Tuesday: "THE iPAD 2 MINI."

My mistake. I did misread your comment.
Genuine non-sarcastic question - what are you storing on your tablet that requires so much storage which makes storage the highest priority?

These looks like Australian prices to me.

Funny how we have to copp this price increase for ages now!
