you cats bought an 800-1K+ tablet and you are nickel and diming about a 25 dollar accessory?
My concern is whether or not it would damage the iPhone. Are you sure it will charge the iPhone without damaging it?

Yeah it's hard to get used to the expense when compared to regular USB chargers, but the truth is this more like a laptop charger, so the price isn't crazy by that metric.Well, $35 for the longer one and an additional $50 for the new Power Supply... But, essentially, yes.

Is there any place you can walk into and buy the cable? Does the Apple Store carry them?
I can get the charger at Best Buy but they don't have the cable yet.
probably the apple store has them in stock i ordered one online yesterday and it will be here tomorrow

That's correct -- if you look at the small print on the 29W brick you'll see that it supports two modes: the 14.5V/2.0A and the "legacy" USB 5.2V/2.4A mode for any older device that doesn't support the new USB PD standard.Don't worry, it will not damage the iPhone. But don't expect it to charge faster either. The power supply will act as if it was a normal 12W power supply if no device and cable capable of the higher charging rates is detected.

I understand the need for fast charging of the ipad pro 12.9", I am ordering the cable and charger myself.
Perhaps some one could clarify for me if fast charging on a regular basis will shorten the battery's life.
I Have experience of charging high capacity lipo batteries for model aircraft and was always told that whilst you can charge them fast it's usually best to use a slow to medium charge to help prolong battery life.
What do the Guru's think?
Is this not it?Good call. The Best Buy near me had the charger for $36 (open box), so I picked it up. I'll swing by the Apple Store tomorrow for the cable. Appears only the 1 meter cable is available in stores as of now.
I noticed it right after I posted lol! SorryThat's USB C to USB C.
From Apple's Press Release:
"...while a new Lightning to USB-C Cable and Apple’s 29W USB-C Power Adapter enable faster charging."
Looks like the USB-C charger that's previously been sold as the Macbook charger. Do we know how much faster it will charge? Any third-party USB-C charger that can accomplish the same fast charge if paired with a USB-C to Lightning cable? And could any old USB-A charger accomplish the fast charge if it's high enough wattage?
The apple pencil is their new mouse/cursor. I would imagine an apple pencil 2 with a secondary click option will be available late fall. Rather than build 3d touch into the ipp, they essentially build it into an new apple pencil. Now they have a cursor with right click functionality....The difference in charging my 12.9" is amazing! Of course it should have come with this charger and cable - and now it'll be all the more offensive to new purchasers that they have to buy the "real" charger separately.
With the 12w charger, it would barely keep up with my usage when it was plugged in. Now I can bang away on the iPad, and the charger stays ahead of my usage. A full charge is no longer an overnight affair.
Now if Apple could just make iOS support a cursor and trackpad when a keyboard is attached...
It should be absolutely fine for battery life. The iPP's battery was designed for a 5560mA charging rate (at least when charging from 0% to about 50%) -- the 12W brick was barely delivering half of that, and only when the device was not in use.I understand the need for fast charging of the ipad pro 12.9", I am ordering the cable and charger myself.
