My concern is whether or not it would damage the iPhone. Are you sure it will charge the iPhone without damaging it?

Don't worry, it will not damage the iPhone. But don't expect it to charge faster either. The power supply will act as if it was a normal 12W power supply if no device and cable capable of the higher charging rates is detected.

Well, $35 for the longer one and an additional $50 for the new Power Supply... But, essentially, yes.
Yeah it's hard to get used to the expense when compared to regular USB chargers, but the truth is this more like a laptop charger, so the price isn't crazy by that metric.

Is there any place you can walk into and buy the cable? Does the Apple Store carry them?

I can get the charger at Best Buy but they don't have the cable yet.

probably the apple store has them in stock i ordered one online yesterday and it will be here tomorrow

It is shipping that quickly? I am thinking of just ordering online instead of going to the store even though I need to grab a couple of other things. I get an employee discount through work online only so picking up in store is always better!

Your lucky, I'm thinking I'll order one but the delivery is going to take a week (UK.) I could go to my nearest Apple Store and pick them up, they have them in stock. But it's a heck of a round trip just for faster charging I can live without if I had to. (I'm not of course, faster and better you say? Yes, please take my money :D)

I ordered tips, the Mac power plug, the USB c cable (1 meter) and USB 3 cable dongle with power pass through on Monday and received all of these items on Wednesday, so yes they are shipping quickly.

That's correct -- if you look at the small print on the 29W brick you'll see that it supports two modes: the 14.5V/2.0A and the "legacy" USB 5.2V/2.4A mode for any older device that doesn't support the new USB PD standard.

Good call. The Best Buy near me had the charger for $36 (open box), so I picked it up. I'll swing by the Apple Store tomorrow for the cable. Appears only the 1 meter cable is available in stores as of now.

I understand the need for fast charging of the ipad pro 12.9", I am ordering the cable and charger myself.
Perhaps some one could clarify for me if fast charging on a regular basis will shorten the battery's life.
I Have experience of charging high capacity lipo batteries for model aircraft and was always told that whilst you can charge them fast it's usually best to use a slow to medium charge to help prolong battery life.
What do the Guru's think?

Its not just fast charging. The included 12 watt charger can barely charge the iPad Pro 12.9. If its off, its OK, but if its on and you are using it, the charge slows to a trickle. And if you are doing something heavy, like large wifi transfers (i.e., downloading audio books), you actually LOSE charge when plugged in.

Im wondering if you could use a high wattage usb brick, get a usb 3 to usb-c cable, connect that to the new usb 3 camera connection kit and still have the ipp charger faster. It sounds like a little much, but it could be a cheaper solution, provide almost the same charging rate, but also give you the functionality of the camera connection kit for those that use it and all for less than the 29w charger and 2m cable combo...

From Apple's Press Release:

"...while a new Lightning to USB-C Cable and Apple’s 29W USB-C Power Adapter enable faster charging."

Looks like the USB-C charger that's previously been sold as the Macbook charger. Do we know how much faster it will charge? Any third-party USB-C charger that can accomplish the same fast charge if paired with a USB-C to Lightning cable? And could any old USB-A charger accomplish the fast charge if it's high enough wattage?

The included charger is 12 watts. The usb c one is 29 watt so I would assume at least twice as fast.

The difference in charging my 12.9" is amazing! Of course it should have come with this charger and cable - and now it'll be all the more offensive to new purchasers that they have to buy the "real" charger separately.

With the 12w charger, it would barely keep up with my usage when it was plugged in. Now I can bang away on the iPad, and the charger stays ahead of my usage. A full charge is no longer an overnight affair.

Now if Apple could just make iOS support a cursor and trackpad when a keyboard is attached...

The apple pencil is their new mouse/cursor. I would imagine an apple pencil 2 with a secondary click option will be available late fall. Rather than build 3d touch into the ipp, they essentially build it into an new apple pencil. Now they have a cursor with right click functionality....

Anyways, glad to hear its charging very fast. Im gonna buckle and get one soon im sure.

It should be absolutely fine for battery life. The iPP's battery was designed for a 5560mA charging rate (at least when charging from 0% to about 50%) -- the 12W brick was barely delivering half of that, and only when the device was not in use.

In other words, you're not going from normal charging to fast charging. You're going from charging at half of the intended amperage to charging at the intended amperage.

I will post the specific figures on the differences between the 12W brick and the 29W brick once I get mine.
[doublepost=1458878401][/doublepost]By the way, I must add that Apple's cheapness sometimes boggles my mind. They couldn't include the 29W brick plus that USB-C cable in the box, on a $1,000 tablet that's meant for businesses? That kind of penny pinching is bad for business IMO.
