I'm sure there are orders flying through the Apple store as I type, but I just don't get it.

For the price of a 128GB iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard I could buy the entry level MacBook with 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM.

Why would I buy an iPad Pro?

I don't understand your confusion. If you want to run OSX apps then you'd buy the Macbook. I want to run iOS apps on a large screen so I'll buy the iPad Pro. I don't need another notebook.

Apple is now accepting orders for the iPad Pro, both through its online storefront and through the Apple Store app. The first iPad Pro online orders will arrive on Friday, November 13 when one-day shipping is selected, and Apple's site is also listing the tablet as available for purchase in many retail stores beginning today.

The Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard will not be arriving until late next week and are not available for in-store pickup at the current time.

Logitech's CREATE Backlit Keyboard Case for the iPad Pro is available in stores beginning today, however, for $149.95. Apple is advertising the keyboard right alongside the Apple Pencil and its own Smart Keyboard. Logitech's keyboard was designed with input from Apple and it is the first third-party product to use the device's Smart Connector port.

The iPad Pro is Apple's new flagship tablet, measuring in at 12.9 inches diagonally. It includes a Retina display, a four speaker audio system, 4GB RAM, and a set of dedicated accessories, the Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard.

Apple's iPad Pro is priced at $799 for the entry-level 32GB Wi-Fi only model, $949 for the 128GB Wi-Fi only model, and $1,079 for the 128GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model. The iPad Pro is available for purchase in Gold, Silver, and Space Gray.

The Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard are being sold alongside the iPad Pro. The Apple Pencil is priced at $99, while the Smart Keyboard is priced at $169.

The iPad Pro is available in a long list of countries at launch, including Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greenland, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, UAE, U.S., U.K., Uruguay, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

It's available for in store purchase at the Apple Store Fifth Avenue today. Right now .

Insane uplift in Europe. 1249 € for the only version that would interest me. 109€ for the pencil. 179€ for the Keyboard (only US English, non-US English keyboards even being hinted at ). 1538€ for the whole package, with no localization.

It really is a laptop/desktop replacement - right down to the price. From a functionality perspective it is very interesting an appealing. That said, there is a certain price point where unless your company is buying one for you (pro ?), you have to hesitate and think long and hard. 1538€. Perhaps that's not much money after all for those willing to pay 17,000€ for a gold Apple Watch. For the rest of us ...Never thought I would say this, but yes, it's over-priced when you add up all of the options, you say ...not so sure.

Everything is expensive in Europe! As if the exchange rate is somehow Apples fault.

I bought a pair of Jeans in Sweden last month, cost me $150 !

Picking up pad today...have to wait 2 weeks for Pencil and Keyboard/Cover?!?
Is it just me or does that make no sense whatsoever? You would think Apple would make damn sure...at the very least...they had a pencil for every pad available...since that is a MAJOR selling point.

Can someone explain to me what the iPad pro does better so much that it's worth almost double the iPad Air 2?? Other than the obvious size increase and incremental CPU upgrade (oh and the pencil...)???
Since size doesn't matter to you, you could use an iPod Touch instead and save a lot of money. Because an iPad is just a larger iPod touch, and the extra real estate is not something that you find compelling at all.

Explain to me why you'd pay almost double the price of an iPod Touch for something that's just bigger.

Some app are designed for iPads only ;)

So here is my well deserved rant about Apple not having the pencil and the keyboard on day one. They are doing it on purpose. Why would they do that? Simply because your iPad Pro will be out of the 14 day return period, that's why! If palm rejection does not work 100%, this whole purchase is useless to me. And, I have no way of knowing that until the pencil ships in 3-4 weeks!

The return period is now January (because of the holidays) so your accusation rings hollow.

Waste of money! Your basically paying double the price of an iPad Air 2 for a larger screen and a pencil! Haha! Im a massive fan of Apple and buy everything they release but this is a joke. Sticking with my iPad Air 2. Would've been different if it ran desktop OS like surface pro runs desktop OS.

To compare the two: putting both with 128GB models and cellular, it's only $250 more. That's not double (at least not in the US). If you're going to make a comparison, you need the same features/memory.

And it's a bit faster than the Air 2.

The OPTIONAL pencil costs more of course. When they offer the optional pencil with the Air 3, I'm sure it'll cost more too (the same).

They need to make the shipping speed choices easier to see. I missed it with the ATV4 but was able to add it on before it shipped but the same thing happened last night. Didn't see the option or was too excited and tried to get it changed this morning so I would have it to play with over the weekend but the iPad and case are already prepared for shipment and they could not change it. The support said they even had problems finding the shipping options when they bought one.

If you need a 169 USD keyboard for a tablet you are doing it wrong.

I assume you posted the same thing in Microsoft forums about the Surface Pro keyboard?

I'm personally happy to have a keyboard designed by Apple to work with the iPad for a change. Nothing against the 3rd party makers, but the experience was never quite seamless to me... I expect this will feel more natural.

Mashable's review is up. One constant in all the reviews seems to be how good the Pencil is.

http://mashable.com/2015/11/11/apple-ipad-pro-review/#0TEcqG4kOkqH

Apple’s Pencil, however, is a Bluetooth device, which means it includes palm rejection. Obviously, other iPad Bluetooth styli have offered this feature on the iPad and it’s a feature I enjoy when drawing on the Surface Book and Surface Pro with a Surface Pen. Yet I have rarely seen a better designed Bluetooth pen.

The responsiveness is exquisite and the Pencil tip material offers just the right balance between friction and smoothness on the iPad Pro’s touch screen. Pressure sensitivity is about as close as you’re going to get to actually drawing on real paper. It even supports shading, letting me hold the Pencil at an extreme angle to access a the virtual long-edge of a graphite pencil or wide magic marker. What’s more, there is almost no perceptible visual space between the Pencil tip and the digital line that appears on screen. All that combined with the iPad Pro's impressively large canvas (I have room for a full drawing andreference material) make this a fantastic drawing experience.

Someone in the UK reported that the Pencil was available in-store even though it's not listed online. I'm guessing Apple wants the Pencil and Keyboard to be available as accessories for walk-ins, so they've disabled reserving them online. It is true that a lot of us would have reserved these items and then not come in for them until late in the afternoon.

Reviews are pretty much what I expected, though everyone seems to be impressed with the Pencil.

Here's some benchmarks from the Ars review:

It outperforms the 15" Iris Pro?! That's amazing. Shame iOS gaming doesn't hold a candle against real gaming in Bootcamp...

The execution of this looks better than I anticipated, but I will be holding off for a bit. I have the Air 2 which works well for my needs right now. My ultimate tablet set up would be the non cell iPad pro for home (I can always use my phone as a hot spot for the rare times I'd take it out, and the Ipad Mini cellular for on the go.

Or you can simply wait and not rush and buy on day one, it is not like Apple is forcing you to get the iPad PRO like today!!

I think I would rather go for a 12" retina MB than the iPad Pro and say a Logitech illuminated keyboard. If I ever wanted to draw, I could always plug in my Wacom Intuos 4 tablet via a USB to thunderbolt cable. For folks with arthritic hands like me, I think the iPad pro would become too heavy to hold for reading. I find I can read a lot longer on my iPad Air 2 than I did with either the earlier model 1 or 3. I would quite like a 12" retina MB for travelling as I find the iPad a bit limiting even with a keyboard (I want to run the full version of Photoshop CS 2015) and my 15" Retina MBP is a heavy old lump in hand luggage, especially when I add a couple of camera bodies and four or five lenses.

over $1K for something that can't even run an OS that's computer-considered based.

wow, only Apple can pull that one off.

So? Honestly, I keep hearing this little flip comment, but that completely ignores the majority of use cases.

EVERY C level executive will love this, light, fast, just like their phones, can do email and word docs, work on excel documents. This is a sales person's wet dream. Can carry it all day, pull it out at potential sales to show off information and other stuff on the big screen. Great for sketching out ideas, taking notes, all sorts of great things like that and have it live in the iOS world, so the apps we love all work.
