I hate when they are this ambiguous about in-store availability. What does "later this week" mean? Thursday? Friday? Saturday?

I assume it's a Friday release... Similar to how the  TV was. My only issue is when does preorder start.

The first iPad was also released 3 months after announcement, and the first iPhone, 5 months.

New products mean new challenges, while new generations are easier to launch.

Yes but, isn't this a bit more in line with iPad Mini or iPhone 6+?

I'm sorry but there is nothing wrong with launching on Wednesday. It's not like retail employees are off work or anything. Pre-Orders go on sale when they go on sale. There is nothing stopping people from pre-ordering and celebrating veterans on the same day. Pre ordering takes 5 minutes then the rest of the day is free to celebrate the veterans...like my parents and my siblings who've served. There is nothing political here. You are just seeing into it what you want to regardless of the facts.
Someone finding anything to be offended by? Preposterous!

Without 3D Touch I'll pass. I'm tired of Apple holding back features so they can drip drip drip innovate them in later on to entice upgrades. I feel like this initial version will be obsoleted sooner than the next model that will have the pressure sensor.

It's not about Apple "holding back features." Rather it's about getting a product to market in a timely manner that will meet the needs of a large number of potential customers.

I suspect 3D Touch simply was not available for displays that large at the point in time (or not ready for prime time in large manufacturing volumes) when Apple wanted to introduce the iPad Pro. Apple is very much dependent on its display vendor(s), as it is with its CPU vendor (Intel) for its desktop/laptop computers.

Maybe this answers your question (from the PR):

“Procreate 3 is designed for iPad Pro to give artists a more immersive experience than ever before,” said James Cuda of Savage Interactive. “iPad Pro’s gorgeous 12.9-inch Retina display lets you create massive artworks: up to an incredible 16K in resolution. This new level of definition allows for large format printing and exceptionally detailed artworks. Procreate 3 is also built for Apple Pencil. Its remarkable accuracy, pressure sensitivity, tilt detection and palm rejection make Apple Pencil the tool we’ve been waiting for.”

Well, wel have to see about that. There is nothing to read about this than only the Procreate website them self. And off course they will show us the best artwork. But I will not bed my money on the iPad pro + procreate only. Thats my point a little bit as an digital painter. I think with the surface pro and full acces to the adobe suit, makes that a more productive machine. I think.

3AM EST if history is any indication. They've also done 8AM, though. Hmmmmm...

Exactly. There's honestly no telling. And I wonder will the allocate more product to the stores or toward preorders. I preordered the new iPhone.. Which was pretty straightforward. I decided to not preorder the  TV, I just knew it would be huge availability in stores.

But with SAMs doing their preorders then Staples, now Apple officially announced their preorder dates. Not sure to preorder or pick up in stores. I would prefer to pick up in stores though...

Looks like there will be just a white and charcoal grey regular smart covers:

Shame. I'd like a red.

Why is the entry level 32GB then jumps to 128GB? I also can't get over a "pro" device running the exact same iOS as an iPad mini

Very little about this device makes sense

I think 32GB is pretty ridiculous.

It should be 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.

Count me as one of the ones who will be purchasing day 1. The plan is for this to replace my MacBook Air (Already sold it on ebay so I hope this works out lol)

From what I have seen so far it can do all I personally need it to do, and the Pencil is a major draw for me. Of course, if it doesn't work out I will return it and go back to laptop land. No real loss either way.

The Pencil is a major draw. I see what you did there. :D

Gotta get something off my chest here. We don't need a 12.9" iPad Pro to make the iPad a better device. Where's the love for the Air 2?

Stupid forced upsell. The air is plenty big and totally under utilized for its size. Make a bigger iPad if you want to but don't force people to buy it for trivial reasons.

So I guess the iPad was a forced upsell of the iPhone to you, as Steve Jobs called it a big iPhone.

Each to their own.

How do you know that next years Air will not have the latest SOC? It shouldn't surprise anyone that Apple wants the iPad Pro to be the 'star' this year. Is there something you can't do with the Air 2 that you would be able to do if it had an A9X chip?

I think Apple has figured out that there's no need to update the iPad every year. I suspect it may be on a two year upgrade cycle going forward.

I think Apple could have passed on the iPhone 6 upgrade this year and changed to a 2 year cycle.

I have no interest in 3D Touch, Live Photos or the poorer battery life of the iPhone 6s.
Personally I think they should have axed the Air 1 and dropped the price on the Air 2.

Yep.

The whole iPad line needs a big trim. It's completely against the ethos that made Apple successful.

I'd say try picking it up in stores on Friday. Who knows, they may even surprise us on Thursday. An online order probably wouldn't get to you until at least Saturday, no?

I was really interested in this product, but ended up getting a new MacBook Pro instead. The thing that swung it for me was concern over how iOS runs on older hardware. My iPad 2 runs at snails pace on the latest iOS, even for email and safari. I was worried that the iPad Pro might be blazing fast now but practically useless in 3 or 4 years from now as software and hardware develop at such a rapid pace. My experience with Macs, on the other hand, is that they remain productive for much longer. I wouldn't buy the iPad Pro unless you are ok with upgrading it in a couple of years to keep pace with iOS.

It doesn't matter what Apple does, some people will still find a reason to complain. I'm glad Apple have announced the iPad Pro will go on sale Wednesday, even tho I'm at work I'll order when I get home. The veterans can be celebrated all day it's not like they are not in people's thoughts just because orders are online.

It's a shame that Apple couldn't bother to avoid launching on Remembrance Day.

Is this a political statement by Tim Cook, I wonder? I would never have wondered with Steve Jobs, because he never let politics interfere with Apple, whereas Cook has made political propaganda his calling card.

Putting this unfortunate lapse of judgment by Tim aside, I look forward to the iPad Pro going from strength to strength. I doubt that I’ll get the first generation, as Apple have a track record of under-powering their first products like the original iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air. Down the line, I hope to make this a replacement for the iPad Air 2.

Why would you leap to the conclusion Tim Cook with his "politics" is making a strong statement about Remembrance Day and that he is against it, thus picking that day for the iPad Pro pre-ordering, of all things. What would be the benefit to him or to Apple? If that were really true, do you think there are people out there that would applaud such a move - timing the opening of iPad Pro preorders with Remembrance Day? And that act would somehow benefit Apple and Tim Cook. Please elaborate with some details rather than idle speculation that makes no sense.

I can't get over a Mac Pro or 15" Retina MacBook Pro running the exact same OS as a Mac mini. It doesn't make any sense, why would anyone buy high-end Macs?

Apple did too good of a job selling me on 3D Touch that neglecting to include it in the Pro version of the iPad has me holding off until next year. Muscle memory for 3D Touch will quickly become annoying when pressing deeper does nothing on the iPad Pro.

You understand that on iPad 3D touch is not necessary in most cases since you get to see the detail of something directly in most cases, right? Not like the phone where it's a lot of back and forth.

sign me up for the top model! and a apple pen...just waiting to be able to order.

First, I'll have to know when preorders start. Could get to me on the day of release perhaps Friday or during the weekend. It would be awesome if Thursday its available in stores. But that would be bad PR on Apple part due to just the day before they opened it for preorder.

Are you planning on preordering or going to the store?

The cost of front and back together is only $30 less than the keyboard case. i think they're trying to push people to grab the keyboard.

Edit: I wonder when MR will stop considering the iPad pro a Do Not Buy LOL.
Is the keyboard back lit?

Usually flagship means the product that is the launching platform for new technologies. It usually is the most high-end offering in the line up. It does not need to be the most popular or best selling product.

You are right about flagship, but I think a better name for the Ipad pro is Ipad Surface. I'm really surprised that it doesn't have 3d touch. But then again, nothing is surprising under Tim Cook.

I vote Nadella as Tim's replacement. Then we would see amazing flag ship products again.

I thought the same, but then I thought maybe 3D Touch doesnt work well with the pencil? think about it, the pencil is pressure sensitive, so you're pushing down on the screen, can you imagine the frustration of always having 3D touch activate when all you want to do is draw a thicker line?

Thanks. I always go for the top model so £899 for the 128GB WiFi + Cellular model sounds good to me.

I hope they have plans for 256GB and 512GB models down the line as I've not found a simple solution for carrying a large database of iTunes purchased content other than storing it on your iPad/iPhone internal memory.

It's called iCloud Music Library and iTunes Match. Why would you hold 256/512GB of music on your iPhone/iPad?

I have to tell you, this theory is beyond belief and so far out there as to be beyond Pluto. You obviously have insight that no one else has, so please tell us just what is the political motivation of Apple to release on Veteran's Day? Can't wait to hear this one.

32 GB for professionals LOL, might as well put a 5400 rpm into it to complete the joke
and a non numeric keyboard.......

I am lukewarm interested , but will have to hold one in a store to decide.

Believe this will be a tough sell, as it hasn't a defined user and compete with better options (surface4?)

Exactly. And also, do we have to stop our daily lives for every "holiday" now? "Remembrance day" isn't even something that most companies observe...
