The Surface Pro blows away the iPad Pro. No contest.
Not in sales apparently! haha
The Surface Pro blows away the iPad Pro. No contest.
My understanding from the linked article is that the iPad Pro outsold all Surface devices combined, which they estimate to have shipped 1.6 million units during the quarter (compared to an estimated iPad Pro volume of 2 million).I do like the rather clever manipulation of this story's title, it has outsold the Surface, so NOT the Surface PRO of the Surface BOOK then..
And then all you get is shipment stats... and no breakdown in those of the Surface / Surface Pro / Surface Book. I would argue that the Surface Pro and Book have outsold the iPad Pro personally.
maybe ALL of us already own a tablet ....ouch.. -24% growth! Welcome to the post tablet era?
Note even close to that. The Surface Pro blows away the iPad Pro. No contest.
It's something like 25% more, and we are speaking about a single model versus several Surface versions.mkay....
The title says the Ipad Pro outsold the surface, cool....
The supporting evidence is for tablet says, not model specific.
Reading the actual source material (http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS40990116), the real reference is
"We believe Apple sold just over two million iPad Pros while Microsoft sold around 1.6 million Surface devices" guess there is not much story with a 400 000 difference...
Maybe focus on one story here....?
They are too low to appear on that sheet. Under 2 millions. They compare the iPad Pro to the Surface Pro sales, but I don't see any Surface Pro sales numbers? Or am I missing something?
That's nice, dear. The Surface Pro blows away the iPad Pro. No contest.
Hold on: they are so close to that ...Good 'ol IDC. The same firm that said Windows Phone would overtake iOS in marketshare by 2015.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/230151/idc_windows_phones_to_overtake_iphone_ios_by_2015.html
For Apple is just one model out of a differentiated offer. For Microsoft is the one and only ... not selling very well.So.....
16.1 million Ipads sold Q4 and 65.9 million all manufacturer tablets sold.
Of which 2 million are Ipad Pro and Surface 1.6.
SO the ipad pro was about 12% of Ipads sold in Q4.
The Ipad Pro and Surface pro sold about 5.4% of all tablets sold in that quarter (3.6 million out of 65.9).
Conclusion - The tablet pro concept is struggling for both microsoft and Apple.....
"Desktop OS". What a faux argument. Please define "Desktop OS".
(Hint: You can't because it doesn't exist. An OS is an OS. iPad Pro runs just as much of a "Desktop OS" as a MacBook)
I haven't received my SP4 yet but I'd have to agree with everything you said, especially on the IPP. iOS is a portable operating system operating on a not so portable device. If OS X isn't an option, why not take the time and make iOS look less ridiculous on the home screen. Not real surprising, the surface pro line is even more niche than the ipad pro. I absolutely love mine and don't regret getting it over the iPad pro one bit. The overall quality and feel is outstanding- it seems like a gadget from the future. I did finally get to mess with an ipp at the verizon store over the weekend and it was pretty impressive aside from the home screen looking totally ridiculous with the huge gaps between icons. The fluidity of the UI was the best I've ever seen from any device.
Between my note 4, macbook pro, and surface pro 4, I've been enjoying the best of what every platform has to offer. Can't ask for more than that!![]()
I think the iPad Pro is too pricey by at least 150$.Really? would $100 cheaper really stop you from buying it? I mean, your sig shows that you have a Mac Pro, a 30" and 23" Cinema Display, MacBook ProS, iPhoneS and various others of Apple's expensive products. $100 doesn't sound like it's gonna break you.![]()
you basically described a SurfaceYou want an OS not meant for touch, with no programs that would be good with touch, to be out on something that is primarily a tablet?
there are quite a few hereI tried the Surface recently. It's so bad. I wouldn't own one if it were given to me for free. Only an apple hater or microsoft lover with no objectivity would want a surface.

Who knew so many surface fans would be hanging around a Mac forum?
Seriously, if I needed a Windows laptop I'd probably buy a surface instead of a normal laptop. For travel, the thing beats anything hands-down. If I needed a demo platform it'd be perfect, since it's easy to connect to a projector and you can run vmware to run anything.
It's not really a tablet, it's a flat PC. Although it does make you think: what the heck is a tablet anyway? Is an iPad Pro and a Surface really comparable? When they were running RT it made more sense to say a surface was like an iPad. Now a surface just a slim laptop/slimtop ie: yet another windows form factor.
I see the iPad Pro and Surface as two different types of products. This comparison is not apples to apples.

Completely agree, love mine - it's a sole windows machine in an OSX/iOS household, iPad never gets touched now!
Even the standard iPad iOS has lots of empty space. Now the icons are more than an inch a part on the home screen, let alone the fact that a folder still only fits icons in a 4 x 4 grid! It's ridiculous how misused iOS is on an iPad!
With a £49.99 tablet. That's like looking at the "motor vehicle" market and finding someone who sells more scooters than Ferrari sells cars.Good point, a 175% year on year rise. Amazon is kicking ass!
Objectivity. Quite ironic you using that word.I tried the Surface recently. It's so bad. I wouldn't own one if it were given to me for free. Only an apple hater or microsoft lover with no objectivity would want a surface.
It can do what you want.
There's an App called Astropad that does that.
I personally think the iPad Pro is selling because it's a bigger iPad which is nicer to use.
Allot of people say the Surface Pro blows the iPad Pro out of the water, but people are only looking at it from a productivity and professional stand point. If you aren't trying to run Photoshop and illustrator and just want something to play games and watch movies on, the iPad Pro is a better tablet IMO. The most pro thing most people do is Office which is what the iPad Pro has.
I'd choose the Surface Pro 4 any day of the week(In fact I might be buying on the supplement my rMBP), but from the point of view from someone who just wants a bigger iPad, I certainly see the appeal over the Surface.
