On the Earnings Call now, Tim just talked about the iPad Pro and kept the release frame as "next month." Pretty disappointed, I would've hoped they would give us an update by now.

I think with the reports claiming Apple will be conservative in regards to the iPad Pro suggest that they aren't willing to give a release frame yet. But then.. Next month will be here pretty quickly..

Yes but to know they have only ordered 2.45 million ipad pro's thats just not much... I hope I can get one at first..

That suggests two to three weeks. Then again, it could suggest 5 days. :D

So in spite of the speculations linked to in several of the above posts, Apple still has not issued a release date. How likely is it that they will not announce a date more than a week ahead of accepting pre-orders? Or will they open pre-orders without a prior announcement?

Okay, so this site is all about rumors, so, we have rumors galore. Here's my wild speculation, based on nothing but my active imagination. Maybe it can become a rumor, if people start repeating it as though it had some basis:

Apple wanted to release the Pro at the end of the first week in November, i.e., November 6, but they're having problems with the supply chain, or maybe even a hardware bug discovered late. They had planned to announce in mid-October that they'd take pre-orders on November 2 and deliver the Pro on November 6 (as per the rumors) but the problems have caused them to delay the announcement until they can be more confident of their ability to deliver. Since they've only said November so far, they feel no pressure to stick to their original November 6 release plan. It will be released instead on Black Friday, and as a humorous nod to the discounts expected on that day, there will be a $1 discount on that day only. Pre-orders starting November 23 will be full price, but orders placed on November 27, as well as purchases made in a store on that day, will be one dollar off.

You read it here first.

I hope I'm wrong and it's in the store on the 6th.

If I'm right I'll start calling myself a psychic and charge $50 to give psychotic [sic] advice over the phone. ($49 on Black Friday.)

Tomorrow.

Eventually, saying "tomorrow" will be the right guesstimate for that next day when the release day comes. :)

*First World Problems...
But uuuuggghhh, I am growing tired of the lack of news (like anyting from Apple would be nice.) Even if they said late Nov. release I would be happy cause then I'd have a better idea as to when to be ready to order it.
Apple also needs to do a bunch of commercials to build up some hype too. It worked for the Surface Book I think, and since this is a new device, they should advertize the crud out of it.

Agreed. My only concern at this point is that Apple will start accepting pre-orders without announcing anything, and I'll miss the first wave window.

... they should advertize the crud out of it.

Why? At this point, advertising would be a waste of money. They've got us sitting on the edge of our seats, logging in every day and asking "When? When? When?" Everybody who wants one, and a lot of people (like me) who are on the fence, are watching them, feet in the blocks and ready to sprint to the store.

So they've got you, probably logging in five times a day to look for an announcement. This is exactly what they want and we're all playing right into their game. Me included. Of course, it's a delicate balance: They want to keep us drooling, but if they wait too long we'll get tired of waiting and give up on them.

I think they'll release it as soon as they have enough units in stock. I think they planned to have it ready to release at the beginning of November, but that they built in some cushion time by just citing the month. A month ago I thought they'd announce a date two weeks ahead, but now I think they'll just announce "Pre-ordering available now," on Monday of whichever week they're going to ship. Then start selling in stores on Friday of that week.

I agree with all of this completely, especially if the rumors of only 2.5 million units is true, which it may be considering it's a product not really targeting the masses with the "pro" name... time will tell for sure and next week is Nov... we're almost there guys!

He may fear it will sell out.

It could, if there isn't supply. We shall see.

Apparently Apple are being conservative with the amount they are ordering, which if they are wrong and a lot more people want them then the iPad Pro could sell out VERY quickly, or they could be right and there will be enough for those of us that want one :D

They did say preorders would be in October, right? I mean it has to go live today or tomorrow I'd think?

I don't remember apple mentioning anything about pre-orders in October, they only thing they have said (as far as I'm aware) is they the iPad pro will be available in November.
