Got my iPad Pro tonight thanks to my local Apple Store business team. Apparently there's a 4 week wait for the Pencil and Keyboard which is really annoying. I don't know who's in charge of Apple's logistics but they're doing a very poor job.

My best advice for this device is to continue to push it as a laptop replacement until there are enough apps and an entire new iteration of iPad Pro that delivers on that promise. It has the potential and backing to go there if it doesn't fail.

My other suggestion for Apple is to provide Mac/OSX as a Service (Server park of Mac-computers). Essentially making it affordable and easy to use a mac as a virtual machine on the iPad Pro (and any other device). This way you could go OSX when iOS isn't enough. Granted, there is the issue of network connectivity, but I still think it is a good idea. You also get the benefit of doing the same with the iPhone. Plug the iPhone into a monitor and keyboard and be able to go OSX. Windows 10 get's this opportunity with just being a hybrid OS. But the Virtual Machine solution could work too.
I'm not smart enough to to know how this would work but sounds very interesting.

There are already companies that offer Mac desktops in the cloud. You can also use your own Mac with Remote Desktop or Screen Sharing (VNC), or with 3rd party Mac software, such as iRAPP, Chrome Remote Desktop extension, or TeamViewer client.

There are over a dozen RDP and VNC apps in the iOS App store. All allow you to have a Mac Desktop on an iPad (if you have a fast internet connection to the Mac or cloud service).

When that happens then maybe it will deserved to be called a iPad pro and would then be a suitable replacement for a laptop. I was really hoping when they first announced a iPad pro it would be a decent cross over device but I personnly think it falls short in its current state, admittitly I have not laid my hands on one yet just going by what I am hearing.

An iPad without iOS is not an iPad.

You're not the target customer for the iPad Pro....Good news though, Apple sells other stuff. ;)

If you had really read my post you would have noticed that and not have been so quick with the sarcasm.

If fact I write apps for iOS and have three iPads currently.

The real issue I believe is Cook s selling the Pro as an alternative to the Windows Surface and Book. The problem again is the ARM processor and lack of access to OSX and even Windows (Bootcamp or virtual machine).

The Pro will make some happy, but many more not so.

There's no doubt this is the most impressive tablet anyone has ever built. Performance is staggering and all the reviews I've read are hugely positive.

If you want the best possible tablet experience, there is no doubt iPad Pro is the device you quite simply must own.
It's also really expensive

looking at those benchmarks, "Windows hardware" isn't gaining anything...

I'm not sure what your point is?

I wrote about the Pro and it's lack of OSX capabilities. My comment about the Windows device is mainly this, OSX needs touch and a stylist (Pencil) to make it complete. The Airs and MB12" are already very nice and light weight devices.

Well I've just come back from my local Apple Store and they've sold 3 iPad Pros in 4 hours and still no one at the watch table. The Genius I was talking to yesterday was a bit embarrassed.

I was talking to a few people looking to buy the Pro, but they all said ONE thing, can't justify the price. One of the people who bought it was a Photographer, he was pretty impressed and I was pretty impressed the way he used Lightroom.

Looks like it's going to be a bit of slow going for this iPad.

I don't use my iPad much as it is, so not really interested in getting this. Must say though that performance seems remarkable. So much for all the talk that A-series processors could never compete with Intel. How much longer will Apple mess with x86 processors?

Apple sells those. They're called MacBooks. Different products for different wants/needs. But there are millions of Apple customers (a tiny percentage of all) with needs nothing like your's.

Again if you actually read my post I stated that. Look up my response to the other person who made a similar comment.

They'll keep messing around with them as long as people have got heavy lifting to do. Show me how to rip a Blu Ray and convert it to MKV on an iPad uumm Pro.

It's about time Apple rolls out its ARM-edition of OS X (you know they have it, just like they did with OS X on Intel, moving from PPC), along side the A10 chip in the next MacBook. Seriously, it's time.

Considering that the Surface doesn't sell that well despite the constant chatter on tech sites, and the tablet portions sucks and the laptop portion isn't that great. Yes, I've used it. Not sure what the hell you're talking about.

Actually the Surface Pro 3 sales numbers are pretty good considering there are lots of different manufacturers of Windows laptops. Apple has a monopoly on Mac OS. Tablet portion may not be as good as the iPad, but for me personally, I just read PDFs on my tablet, so I don't really need it to do too much besides that and email and web browsing.

But your last sentence was pretty hostile. I want to do the minimal tasks that I do on a tablet, but also have the laptop to do the big things that I do. Surface Pro 3 is pretty awesome for that, but I also just want Mac OS... so I stick with a MBA and an iPad 2 Air. Wish I could just have one device.

I predict the iPad Pro will ultimately go the way of the 17" MacBook Pro
In defiance of such remarks, I say it's time Apple brings back the 17" MacBook Pro! Some people actually do find the MacBook Pro 15 limiting in terms of screen space. They can get a 17" if they go to Windows, so it's about time to bring back 17" goodness to the MBP line!

Apple is the king of combining canned benchmark dominating hardware with annoyingly constrained performance in the wild.

They're in it for the long haul with x86. They announce a move to ARM and that could be the death of the mac. They could pull that when they were barely selling any. They still barely sell any compared to Windows devices, but unless they went parallel lines and put out chromebook/5c style ARM+OS X lower cost net-centric devices, that would be a terrible move.

Reviews are nice, generally positive. However, if you have a faint heart, please do not read the comments below the said positive review article. 99% chance you would wonder why there are so much hates in this world. There are those who never had, never used, and never bought the product they convincingly stated as the worst tablet ever made in history.

I can see this become the latest hot piece of tech on campus and in office meetings. Will it replace a laptop? No but looking forward to seeing this used in meetings instead of facing a table of laptops with people typing into them instead of talking with each other. I bet law firms will be all over this.

Apple strength lies in iOS because of the success of the iphone and the iPad . The number of people who have/want access to OS X is significantly less than those who have been exposed to iOS because of the iPhone . That is apples target customer. Not the small subset of people looking for OSX but the much large base who are comfortable using iOS. Windows on the other hand really didn't do very well in the mobile space and their target is customers who use windows on their desktop/laptop , hence the approach to the surface . The iOS App Store is definitely more profitable and has far more apps than the mac app store simply because of the number of people who have iOS devices. Apple is trying to play to that strength . If they had gone with a touch OSX , the sales would have been low , prices even higher and the number of apps really small. (One of the criticisms of windows is the lack of touch apps on the windows store) I think apple is actually trying to consolidate their base with the iPad pro by reaching out to customers who have now got used to iOS . Unfortunately the pro moniker sounds a little confusing. Maybe the iPad plus?!

Hey Tim....The Surface Book may be deluded but it runs full desktop OS.
I love dumb phrases like "full apps" and "full desktop os". Hate to break it to ya, but iOS is a full OS (OS stands for operating system). Also, it runs "full apps". People act like the Windoze version of Office is the definition of proper computing. Lame

Because you can't get a pencil??? You immediately assume poor logistics? That's a big egotistical

Interesting, when another company talks about Apple products, it's because they're doomed, they have no class, they are desperate, or they are jealous... according to this site.

Out of curiosity, which one is Tim?

Lol!!!! What makes you think this is a response to the surface garbage??? They specifically said it is diluted and won't make anything like it...
