Then talk with your money and drop them. They will come around.

I'll definitely send Netflix an email or something. They don't really have competition, so it's not like I will leave them for somebody else. I have a feeling they will come around sooner or later. They have acknowledged that the future is streaming, not physical DVDs.

I don't know what their bandwidth charges are, but it's probably cheaper than the costs of mailing a DVD both ways, buying the physical plastic discs, warehousing the discs, robots and people to keep all those discs sorted out.

Apple seems to have no interest in an all you can eat plan for music, or video, but that could potentially strike a major blow to Netflix overnight (assuming they had the library and a competitive price).

Who cares?

If Apple doesn't need it then I don't either. Apple.com doesn't use flash. I can't remember the last time my world came crashing down because I couldn't play a flash game or stream some video. If it's not quicktime, it's not worth my time.

Cannot wait for Flash to die so people won't be complaining "it doesn't run flash, OH NO!". Apparently, it's the end of the world.

I mean, practically no one bought the iPhone because it doesn't support Flash. I mean, how many iPhones have you seen out there today? Practically none, right? Lack of Flash support.

Again, I expected more functionality than my iphone 3gs provides. That was the minimum. This thing went backward. My jailbroken phone provides more functionality than this thing (other than size). I just think that is SO SAD. What were they thinking????? Again, maybe OLD PEOPLE... the baby boomers are getting old and it's a huge market. I just don't see why they couldn't have made a device for the rest of us. JUST ONE. A $1,000 model that did something DIFFERENT. That had A REAL WEB BROWSER. THAT I COULD VIDEOCONFERENCE FROM. WHY?????????

Everybody can complain all they want. And rightfully so.

But it doesn't matter. Apple doesn't care. They are a multi-billion dollar company. They work on their own agenda.

If you don't like it, spend your money some place else.

There's another roadblock to hinder HTML5 replacement of Flash: microsoft.

HTML5 isn't going to become wide spread for 'desktop websites' until IE supports HTML5. While IE is the most popular browser, I doubt web developers will write HTML5 and Flash components for a website - they'll just go with Flash, since that is what most people can use anyway.

You're overlooking the fact that IE is losing market share in droves. The idea that it's "the most popular" is fading. Welcome to 2010, McFly. On my clients' websites, IE usage is hovering between 50% and 60%. That's a lot of pressure to kick Microsoft's butt into gear. They'll have no choice if the current trends keep up.

Adobe have gone on record countless times, saying that they cannot improved Flash performance on the Mac without Apple's help - help which Apple have refused to give. The massive performance increase in the last version of Flash Player for Windows was a result of Adobe and Microsoft working together. Apple refused.

Flash isn't going anywhere anytime soon. When are Mac fanatics going to realise they are the vast minority? Most Windows users have no Idea what Flash even is because "it just works" for them. Flash is not going to be replaced over night just for some oversized gimped iphone nobody is going to buy. Wall st has spoken the idouche is a bust, time to start obsessing about the next ijunk.

Apple is playing it safe with version 1.0. Yes -- version one-point-oh. Give the product time to grow into its expectations. I know, Apple created the expectation we have of the company, but how is it wrong for them to want to take baby-steps into the new computing category that they are creating?

Well, I guess you can just have crippled devices at work, and if so... a maxipad is perfect for you, because it is crippled. I expected a better product than my iphone 3gs, and instead, they took away the camera and still NO FLASH SUPPORT. FLASH DOES SUCK, but it it part of the internet, FACT. SO, the device is not a true internet device. IT'S ANOTHER **INTENTIONALLY** CRIPPLED APPLE DEVICE.

DON'T BUY IT UNTIL THEY FIX IT. PLEASE.

Please send the pathetic thing to me quickly... I'm about to start my period.

Or, you can just send me the cash... you obviously have too much. Or, you just won the lottery and are foolish.

I know I'm just feeding a troll.. But ah well..

Your arguments are pathetic. You are childish and ignorant. "Don't buy it.. please." As many posts have mentioned, if the iPad is for you, get it, otherwise, don't. Perhaps you are still too young to understand the fact that others have different needs from you. In the meantime, a little **** would be useful.

Almost everyone I know now (except kids) runs a flash blocker at all times. Flash is intrusive and clunky. Having a web page open with flash on it slows the whole computer down.

Unfortunately, just blocking flash doesn't fix it all, there's still those intrusive add boxes that pop up over content - they should have flash in them, but now they are just grey boxes. But, that may be more of a problem with intrusive ad designers than flash itself.

This entire argument was the 2nd worst I read so far (the first being the guy arguing about using torrents for tv shows...haha) - I'm all for a new technology that works better than Flash, if Apple chooses to not use Flash then that is their choice. They are taking a chance, and if it works out for them then so be it. However - to suggest that only kids use Flash because "everyone you know" blocks it - is illogical. Next, telling people that they need to search for other websites with similar content that don't use Flash - also illogical. Right now, Flash is VERY popular. A lot of people don't have the luxury of hunting down sites that don't use Flash. I wouldn't buy an iPad if it had Flash or not - but if Apple thinks it can get by without using it on their tablet, then so be it. I don't have Flash on my cell phone, but I browse the web just fine. People need to realize that the web browsing habits of their small group of friends IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE ENTIRE INTERNET. A lot of people use and like Flash.

Don't Buy This Half-baked Device...

dudeeee relax

I'm RELAXED AND DONE. I just hope everyone realizes that they did a horrible job on this and refuses to buy it until they GET IT RIGHT. VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET and DON'T BUY until they release a version THAT IS UP TO SNUFF. AGAIN... REAL WEB, FLASH, AND CAMERA.

False Advertising or creative license?

As much as I might think Flash sucks, it delivers most of the interesting web content. I don't really mind its absence on the iphone, but on a device primarily designed as a content browser, it's pretty retardant.

I wish there wasn't always a huge "catch" with Apples new devices.

Heh Heh. Well said.

I haven't looked, but why are you here if you're not a Mac user?

More questions:
- what makes you think that Macs are the vast majority? In what markets?
- why does Wall Street have to be the authority on whether the iPad will succeed or not? What about the _happy customers_?

You invalidated your own argument. Apple could make Flash an option to turn on and off as well. No need to drain your battery if you don't want to.

The primary reason they don't support Flash, is because it competes with the App Store. Apple wants to force feed you their own games and their own TV shows. God forbid you watch movies on Netflix and TV shows on Hulu instead of buying them at the iTunes Store. God forbid you play Flash games at MiniClip, instead of buying them at the App Store.

If you don't see what's going on, you should try to pull your head out off Mr. Job's ass.

Don't be silly. Firstly there's no spaceman 'God' from the sky or thing you may imagine that is out there that forbids anything, (sheesh 2000+ years humans have been subscribing to this superstitious nonsense and it has yet to be proven) it's not relevance to this matter.

Secondly anyone can watch all these things on any Mac with out any restriction. Apple simply don't wish to promote the abuse and use of Flash for the purposes you mention, there are (as mentioned in this thread) superior alternatives to view the media.

PS: Videoconferencing would be great, but Apple will never include that until the mobile networks can handle full-screen videoconferencing. I can't see WiFi-only as being an option here in the company's eyes. Regarding a rear-facing camera, does anyone really think a camera on this device is convenient?
No, it wouldn’t.
PPS: Just because HTML/CSS/JavaScript can be used for the same effect, doesn't mean it's practical to do so. Flash is easier to develop for and acts uniformly across browsers. That said, I would love to see Adobe become a JS IDE over time.
Yeah well, Javascript development isn’t done “raw” all that much. jQuery, GWT etc. provide good ways to develop.
PPPS: Hulu? Does anyone really think that Apple wants to implement Flash for something that only works in the US?
How about iTunes Movies and TV. I haven’t seen much of those in the Finnish store . And they still sell the Apple TV here (for a lot more than in the US btw).

5) No Adobe Flash. Come on, it can't be that hard. Did anyone notice the audience laughter during the presentation, when Jobs brought up a website with a giant hole in it, from the lack of flash support? They cut away quickly, but it was still there.

I thought they were laughing at the times article about google voice being brought to the iPhone via websites in the technology column (my eyes always go streight to the tech column on NYT and I bet most of those people there do the same thing). why would they laugh at the lack of flash. In fact im sure they were laughing at the article, check it out and find out. I want to see iPhone OS 4.0 before i decide if i want one, im leaning towards yes now but need a little push (and flash is not that push, im fine without it).

Marked as negative again...

As said in previous thread I will mark each iPad news (regardless of what they are) as negative UNTIL Apple pull finger out of their ****** and allows Flash player to be installed...

Hezuz!

Somehow I think you'd mark anything on the iPad negative. :p

I think the original poster meant, "when are the mac users going to realize that Flash is the vast majority.."

Apple needs to take some caution here. If they advertise in the videos a properly rendered new york times, and a user buys the iPad specifically to read the NYT and it does not display as advertised Apple could get itself in trouble with the FTC and be sued by customers.

Apple needs to put a disclaimer on the video ad stating that this is a simulation and will not render as such on consumer iPads.

So you're an iPad expert now? You've spent years preparing, planning, and studying the market for its release? You designed its internals and its software?

Yah, I prefer to trust that Apple has done their homework. Sure, they are stubborn about the Flash support, but can you imagine how negatively it would impact their product for Flash to run terribly on it? That wouldn't even be their fault, and they'd have no control over improving the situation other than cramming in heat-generating, battery-sucking electronics, just to support a "standard" that's not even open to community participation. It's one company's closed, proprietary platform. Take your complaints to Adobe, not Apple.
