I think USB C is too thick vs. lightning - with Apple's obsession with thinness and all!
Right. USB-C is doable for current iPhone 6/6S form factor but may prove to be a bit thick for iPhone 7 or iPod touch to accommodate comfortably.

Here's the illustration:

I still standby with my prediction that WiGig and induction charge will replace Lightning connector.

I miss the FireWire from the first one. It really was lightning fast. They changed to accommodate Windows users which only had USB in most cases. It really is super slow and 7 years later it's not much faster.

It makes me mad too, since my Haswell/Maxwell PC has functioning FireWire, and my old HP had FireWire. It was being adopted by PCs, slowly but surely.

Just put an OS X on it, finally.

Why do you keep on saying this? Two very different entities needing two different features ,etc. If you want OS X buy a Mac. Perhaps next you will be demanding mouse input support for the iPad. How about a 2nd monitor, say 30", to attach to the iPad? External blu ray drive, hi speed usb hubs, and on and on. In fact, let's change the design of the iPad to match the MacBook Air. Sheesh. Does anyone here actually think logically and rationally before posting?

This is infuriating. Why not just get rid of the stupid lightning port and move across to usb-c?!

Sure, sure. It should be USB because that's the standard, and we'll have less cable clutter, right?

No, dammit!

I already have portable devices that require USB 2.0, USB 3.0, Mini USB, Micro USB 2.0, and Micro USB 3.0... and now you want me to buy, keep, and mange yet another USB adapter???

Does this mean that using a lighting to HDMI will have no more lag, just like the 30 pin connector?

Just wondering cause right now even with the latest ipad, there's noticeable lag that prevents enjoyment of certain games when mirroring on TV.

USB 2.0 can read/write at about 40MB/s sustained (60 MB/s theoretical). USB 3.0 can go >150 MB/s sustained (640 MB/s theoretical). The sustained speeds are dependent on what you are reading/writing to.

I'm really not sure what numbers you are coming with... both of your numbers are low, especially for USB 3.0.

He got his numbers from the 3rd paragraph of this article.

Well, that confirms it then.

......That is.....with a powerful CPU, screaming GPU, 4GB ram and high speed data transfer capabilities, future iOS updates and full 'pro' level apps in development to both take advantage of the powerful hardware, the iPad Pro is poised to turn some heads.

Yes, me gawking at the people holding their giant iPads in the air to shoot a picture or video. Makes me laugh every time!!

I agree, but then again, if they can sell a gazillion of them instead, I don't blame them.

Because the iPad Pro isn't already expensive enough? Because Apple isn't exactly known for it's good value? Because Apple is shooting for a TRILLION DOLLARS net sales next quarter?

Maybe TV manufacturers should sell expensive 4K screens that only display 1080p unless you buy a special adapter that plugs in that enableds 4K capability? Why not, if they can sell a gazillion of them?

Here we go again. Can we try this thread without the phrases 'screen real estate', or 'use case'?
Only if no one questions the name by asking what's "Pro" about it. Once that happens, they have opened the gates to all sorts to screen real estate use cases.

Speaking of use cases, have you seen the price Apple wants to charge people who want to use cases on their iPad Pros?

Good idea, now you're thinking like a true Apple exec. Ignore what the majority want ;)
It really doesn't have anything to do with whether a "file system" is desirable or not on an iOS device, but rather is the manifestation of my own ennui.

But, I'm designing my own workaround: the phrase "file system" will now appear to me as "Matt Damon." Not perfect, but it's a start.

"Put OS X on an iPad" is the single worst idea in the history of computing. Yikes. Seriously, stop asking for that. It would be a terrible experience. Imagine trying to navigate those menus and icons with touch. Yuck. There is a reason why touch on Windows is a horrible idea. The same applies to Mac OS X. Maybe one day when iOS is powerful enough they can just discontinue OS X and your dream will happen. Until then, NO TOUCHSCREEN MACS PLEASE! I would be furious with Apple if they did that.

Besides CPU power, the screen size, the amazing Stylus that already beat a three gen Surface Pro, . . .
The cpu in the pro 3 is over 2.5 years old, I hope it can outperform it. However geekbench is flawed, including sha1 results in a cpu benchmark may help in arm vs arm comparisons, but it is not impactful for 99% of cpu tasks.

Some excellent points have been brought in this thread. Really looking forward to getting my hands on one!

Why wouldn't you blame them? It is pretty gross to sell your customers a pro product only to tell them later you purposefully gave them an inferior cable so they'd have to give you more money. Especially since it costs the dame to produce.

It's wrong of me, I know, but I really wish the MacRumors filters were set to reject any comment with the phrase "file system"

But I'm a dreamer. :)

You'd expect a file system in a "pro" device though.
