Alright, I just got my Dagi. First impressions from using it with Penultimate and Note-Taker HD are pretty disappointing. I guess I am just expecting to be able to write like I can with pen and paper, and obviously that is impossible.

I'm hoping that I improve with some practice...but to be honest I think I'd be better off practicing to type quicker on the iPad keyboard. :(

With both Dagi and Pogo it took me about four projects (comic strips) to become very comfortable and natural using them.

I praised the Dagi highly when I first got it, so I feel responsible for flogging it here. As I used the Pogo enough to smash its tip into shape, I started liking it more. But sometimes it depends on the app.

I'd encourage you to work with the Dagi for a week or so before deciding whether or not it suits your needs. I really hope it does, since you already have one. I do tend to use the Dagi for drawing and Pogo for lettering now that I've had both for a while.

So what is the best stylus for actualy drawing?, tried the Dagi but not as great as everyone says and thats meant to be better than the pogo sketch?. Anyone help please.
Here's my writing and drawing sample again (I mostly just do line art) switching off between the two pens:

I dunno what to say at this point other than that it appears to be a very individual thing. Both pens suit my style. Some people swear by fingerpainting. I haven't seen any reviews or vids demonstrating any pens other than these two for drawing on the iPad.

Those samples are great, I like to stick to the Dagi but I'm not sure. I was hoping for a wacom feel pen, can anyone tell me if there's anything in the pipeline?.

Thanks for your reply, I sure will keep at it now that I have it. I might get something like to Sketchbook Pro to do some exercises with every day.

Unfortunately I think that being left-handed doesn't exactly help my cause, but I should stop using that excuse. :p

I've been using Ghostwriter Notes. It works pretty good for me during meetings. the only app out there that lets me take handwritten notes with small letters

This one is kind of pointy, if you hold it on its side. But I don't think that it would be best for notes. I'm sure that we will see a pointy, pen-like stylus and notes app for the iPad in no time!

I purchased a 6 pack of these type & they are not iPad friendly.

You have to hold the stylus in just such a way that the flat surface makes enough contact to work at all. If you just use the tip or the sides there isnt enough conductivity.

Ive got 4 left & to put it succinctly, they suck!

Any update/success? It's been about two weeks since I've had a chance to do any drawing at all, and I'm finding that I can barely get the Dagi to draw (or write) now. I'm baffled. But maybe I just need to "get back into it."

The Pogo is behaving itself.

ETA: on further experimentation, it's as if the body of the Dagi has stopped conducting from my hand down to the part that contacts the screen. If I lay a finger on the actual "nib," it works fine and smoothly, with very light pressure. Am I going nuts?

I had the same problem. I eventually just threw it away. I was using the pogo but now I'm using the boxwave. I also just ordered one from stylus-r-us. We'll see...

how on gods earth did you draw that? ok, more to the point, which app did you use?
I was drawing a lot using ArtStudio, but that was drawn mainly in Brushes. I sketched the full thing in ArtStudio, then imported it into Brushes and drew a set of three panels at a size about the width of the iPad, which is a little larger than I'd draw if I were doing it on paper. I use Brushes solely because it has the option of creating a high-resolution output with some extra, laptop-based software. Otherwise, for line drawing I don't find it the best app of the main choices; it's very limited in how you can customise the brushes. But I want to be able to have a high-quality version of the art for a possible hard copy later, so until one of the other drawing apps offers a high-res option, I'm just getting used to working in Brushes. Brushes does seem to work better than ArtStudio for being able to magnify the art a little to work on details. Sketchbook Pro also seems to be good for zooming in on things.

You can get the pogo at apple stores. The rest are on-line.
And usually you have to ask for them to bring one out, as they don't keep them on display.

Your Dagi worked, then it stopped? Do you know what would cause this? I have two other Dagis still in their boxes (buying in bulk seemed more cost-effective at the time--$10 each including shipping), but I haven't had time to tried them yet to see if they work fresh out of the box.

Are you using the Boxwave for writing or for drawing?

Yep- it literally just stopped working exactly as you described it. I have no idea why. I used it for writing (Penultimate), and it was great while it worked. But I won't be buying it again.

I would love to find out the science behind what causes that. I stored my Dagi in the zippered leather case with my iPad, next to the Pogo, which is fine. Maybe I'll learn something with a little googling.

I've seen pics of the Dagi. Don't you have to hold it at specific angle to work?

Unfortunately I have been very busy lately and haven't been practicing much with the Dagi. I wonder if mine will suddenly stop working after a while like yours though!

And to answer another question, yes you have to use the Dagi at the specific angle so that the it works.

Best Buy are sold out everywhere for the Griffin/Targus one?! How did you manage to get one? They're not even available in the UK (where I am). :(

I ordered two online from Best Buy and they arrived within a couple of days. I also saw several in stock at the Best Buy near my house just a few days ago. I can attest to the fact that the Targus are decent options for those looking for a good iPad stylus.

I bought a Targus Stylus at a local Best Buy yesterday and love it so far. I got it to handwrite notes and it works well. I'm using it a lot for general input and it's keeping my screen cleaner. Yay !!!
