I'm wondering if Boxwave and the like have changed the product since it was introduced. Several brands of stylus seem to use this type, I imagine the tips may have improved over the months with improvements quitely updated in the supply chain line.

I too tried an early rubber tipped stylus my friend got and found it quite bad. Bought an Elago recently (which I believe it just another Boxwave/Targus/Griffen rebrand) and it's about as draggy as using my finger. Slight, but barely perceptible.

Stylus Option

One of the biggest disappointments of the iPad functionality for me was the lack of a stylus input so that I could get rid of all my paper notebooks that I accumulate for work. The other one was the lack of the camera.

Anyway, one of the things that I thought a company like Livescribe could do quite quickly and easily would be to modify one of their pens to use bluetooth instead of storing the captured "ink" for later upload to a PC.

This bluetooth enabled pen would have a nice, pointy, screen-safe tip that slid across the iPad screen and all the "ink" info would be sent to the iPad via bluetooth in real time and displayed live on the iPad screen.

They could create a simple notebook style app that displayed the dot paper on the screen and turned off (or just ignored) touch sensitivity for most of the screen while writing. This would allow you to write on the iPad without having to worry about your hand touching the screen and causing problems and you would have a pointy, pen-style tip that would allow you to write small sized text. The app could allow you to date, categorise and tag your notes when you were finished to allow you to easily find and retrieve stuff.

I sent the idea to the company when the iPad first came out as I'd buy one tomorrow if they made it, but I never heard from them (no surprise really!). What we need is one of the Asian companies that produce all those electronic gadget rip offs to make one for us. :D

The other thing that I am hoping is that one of the Android tablets includes a proper stylus input and notebook type app. Much as I love a lot of what the iPad has to offer, for work I'll ditch the iPad when one comes out and use that instead.

I Found The Best One!!!!

here is it. it's capacitive and pointy! took me a while to find it but finally! :) i just don't know where they are selling them in the US, but you can preorder them from this link http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/nokia-capacitive-stylus-su-39-p26348.htm

My Alupen is on its way and I'll be sure to talk about how easy it is to use. I bought a Pogo Sketch off someone on craigslist and I'm really not happy with it. I have to press down hard for it to work. I'm not sure if its my SGP film though. It seems to work just fine on my MBP's trackpad though.

I purchased the Targus stylus and it is so much better than the Pogo that I had used previously. It is thicker in size so much more ergonomically correct. I have a Power Support crystal screen protector and didn't notice any drag. I like that you can use the Targus at any angle that is comfortable to your hand and you don't need to use any more pressure than you would normally use with a pen and paper. Thanks to this thread for the recommendation.

does anyone think if the new Samsung Galaxy Tablet Bluetooth Stylus going to work? It looks like have reasonable size pen tip. Guess we have to wait and see.

Does it rely on BT to work? If so I'd pass. BT can be laggy and that stylus would need it's own battery.

Interesting, thanks for posting! Are you going to get one and let us know how it is? :) Too bad the Nokia retail store in NYC closed down...

It looks like it's just a piece of plastic, but I can't really see the tip.

It's not clear at this point whether Blueooth works as function of pen input, or the function of wireless remote button. From the description it said it allow user to register two devices to the stylus, so you can use it answer your mobile without pick it up.

Horang, did you read this?

Soft Rubber top end for click and writing, the sharp tip is not fit for Apple iPad screen.

Dont expect to use the sharp end for writing on the iPad....

I too was on the hunt for the perfect stylus for my ipad. I read all this and looked at all the links posted. I have the Pogo Sketch like most everyone. And like most everyone, I'm not impressed. So after looking I bought the Elago stylus off of Amazon. I ordered Sunday evening and the stylus arrived today, (Wednesday).
http://www.amazon.com/elago-Stylus-Clip-iPhone4-Touch/dp/B003YSKJOW

Out of the box this blows the Pogo out of the water.
Length is about 4.25" I'd say the "thickness" is close to twice that of the pogo. Pocket clip is tight with no movement, and its metal unlike the plastic of the Pogo.

The tip is rubber. Sort of like a "bubble", not sure if it is air filled.

Writing/Drawing - My ipad has a screen protector. The Elago, glides right across the screen. Much more control than the Pogo I think. I have Penultimate app. I noticed an immediate difference! The Pogo feels like a toothpick with a sponge on the end after using this.

Check it out!

It looks like this uses the same tip as the Boxwave/Targus/others (all appear to have the same rubber tip and tapered silver metal lip - the rest of the design may differ) - all of which have gotten similarly good reviews. I use the Targus, and it works great for writing. I too would like a finer tip - but I suspect there is a minimum surface area that the iPad screen will respond to - so this may be as good as it gets.

Yeah,
it was a toss up for me between the boxwave and the elago. I read the reviews and came down to price!:D I might pick up one of the "midget" box waves as well.

I use the boxwave mini but i also have a pogo. I think the mini is easy enough to keep my wallet but the pogo does feel nicer to write with. Anythings better than using the onscreen keyboard at least.

I love the Targus. Bought 4 of them.

I really like Hard Candy's new stylus. Not pointy but has a similar (same?) rubber tip that boxwave and targus I belive do. It seems a little more flexible than my boxwaves (which I prefer greatly over the pogo).

I like it better because it is longer and more substantial. And the cap protects the rubber stylus tip. If you don't like fat pens, you won't like this. But it is more comfortable than the boxwaves (which I find to be a tad too short to be perfect, though narrowness is OK).

Like the fischer space bullet pen, one problem is what to do with the cap when using it. If you put it on the other end I am sure it will eventually put marks in it. Not a huge deal, and true of most capped pens, just worth a mention.

By far my favorite iPad stylus (tried both pogos, some cheapy knockoffs, the obagis, and the boxwave)

Did you get your AluPen yet? I just ordered mine on the weekend and it has been shipped today, expected here by Thursday according to the tracking but that assumes they got it to the post office on time today. Otherwise probably Friday.

^yup. It's got that soft rubber bubble tip like some of the other ones and it's really awesome. While it's not like drawing with some copic pens, it's way better than using my finger. It glides across my SGP films on both my iPad and iPhone with relative ease. It takes a bit of getting used to since it's wide but can make thin lines. Luckily I have small Asian hands, so it's not at all small for me. It might be a tad short for others though. I hope to get better with it so I can illustrate some comics with it.
