Isn’t this the same screen as the previous generation? If so, how is this the best ever?

Thank you Samsung factories for manufacturing an Apple designed and engineered screen. In the same way TSMC factories make Apple designed A13.
What exactly did Apple design here? Resolution and size. Anything else? Comparison with chip foundry business is really way off in this case. I presume Samsung may offer some choices to Apple and Apple may chose between those but it's nothing like designing the architecture, schematics and layout of the chip. It is also very different from outsourcing of some other components where Apple may develop the process, buy the tooling and give it to other company to do the actual manufacturing. That's not what happens with Samsung in this case.

Does this include the iPhone 11 Pro as well, or is it just the Max? Same displays, just bigger on the Max?

Seems impossible as I have been told over and over how much better competitors displays are than apple’s.

iPhone 11 Pro is a substantial upgrade for all existing iPhone users, and an even bigger upgrade for those joining the Apple family from other platforms.
Actually it is a substantial upgrade for all home button generation users. Anyone on an X/XS/XS Max (and XR to 11), it is not a substantial upgrade. Many users don’t see the annual chip (which is always upgraded), newer camera, and increased battery as reason to upgrade. Apple assumes this which is why the trade in values are so high this year to boost sales.

Not quite, it's noticeably brighter and offers more dynamic range/contrast. There are comparison videos on Youtube.

Where’s the android fanboys saying their note 10 or 10+ is better display?

(p.s it goes a long way to show how much Apple does with their displays because even if they get them from Samsung - depending on who they go with it’s sometimes someone else - they still make it better than Samsung does their own phones... which is pretty pathetic on Samsung’s end)
I do not know about all Android fans but I am pretty sure Samsung customers are always confident that they get the best tech available.

You must be new to displaymate reviews. They give the same review to every new Samsung display (be it for Galaxy or Apple phone). Here are the excerpts from their review for Galaxy S10 display.

Even with our new tougher grading standards and new tests, the Galaxy S10 receives 100% All Green Very Good to Excellent Ratings in All Categories, earning DisplayMate’s highest ever A+ grade.

Some of the Galaxy S10 Display Highlights
These are a few of the Galaxy S10 Display Highlights that we will be covering in detail throughout the article:
· Record Very High Absolute Color Accuracy (0.4 JNCD) that is Visually Indistinguishable From Perfect.
· Record Very High Image Contrast Accuracy and Intensity Scale Accuracy that is Visually Indistinguishable From Perfect.
· Record High Brightness Mode that is up to 17% Brighter (1,215 nits) than the Galaxy S9 in High Ambient Light.

Then why doesn't Samsung put better displays in their phones? Either Apple is doing something right with their Samsung displays or Samsung is doing something wrong with their Note and Galaxy displays...

I don't know! Those are good questions. Although my first take is - "Who is DisplayMate?" - as I've never heard of them before (that's just me).

How does the iPhone 11 Pro's screen compare to something like the new Galaxy Note? I went into a Best Buy a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by how much better the Galaxy Note's screen looked compared to my XR.
The Galaxy 10 also got an a plus. It sounds a little mis leading because the article makes it sound like the iPhone got the first a plus. However it just means it got the highest grade, which other phones have gotten.

This looks like displaymate fault. MR simply quoted them but it looks like DM are just using a standard template for their reviews so now all new panels (probably since Galaxy S10+) get "highest ever A+ grade" which obviously does not make sense.

A bit lower brightness, lower resolution, and with bits cut away.

Continuing to raise the bar on color accuracy? How can that be when last year they said the same thing with the supposed holy grail 6500K white point? Wasn't that supposed to be as "color accurate" as it gets?

Something stinks here, I wonder if Displaymate is on Apple's dole. Either that or they are getting cherry picked units no doubt, because I've seen some horrendous screens out there, half yellow half pink, pink halos around the edges, green tinge gradients, etc., and I'm not even touching the yellow screen issue.

Display Mate is on "everyones" dole actually

Display Mate created their test platform. They then sell consulting services in order to help companies ace their test.

Companies that do not pay for their service do not get guidance and advice how to "ace" Display Mates test.

They really pulled off buying an A+ screen from Samsung and getting an A+ rating.

fixed it.

Samsung or Apple?

I don't know! Those are good questions. Although my first take is - "Who is DisplayMate?" - as I've never heard of them before (that's just me).

DisplayMate is a private 3rd party display testing consulting company.

DisplayMate generated a specific test routine for displays in order to provide what they believe to be a scientific "objective" truth about display quality.

DisplayMate started by testing just about every device they could get their hands on. When companies don't do well on their tests, Displaymate will sell them consulting work to help that company tune their displays to best meet DisplayMate's tests.

Companies who pay for the consulting work not only get access to see the specifics of the testing, but get "bumped" up in line for greater presence on DisplayMates charts.

So either their results hold water or they don’t. Which is it according to you?

So you deny Apple designs it’s own screens, or this is a troll post?
There is absolutely no evidence that Apple design the screens. They might be designing display controllers but not the screens. Don't you remember the time when Apple double sourced LCD panels from LG and Samsung and everyone wanted a Samsung panel because they were better? If Apple designed those screens, would not they be identical?

Apple is just one of Samsung's customer. They send their requirement and budget to Samsung. And Samsung design and manufacture certain screens for apple.

If you consider a piece of requirement sheet as screen designing. Then anyone is more than capable to design the best screen in the world, such as 8k resolution, 10k+ nits brightness, 0 watt/ hour battery consumption, manufacturing cost < $10 per piece and etc.
