Are they charging the $5/month and the $30 activation fee or did they do away with the activation fee?

About an hour and half after ordering and when the order page finally worked again, the page updated to 'being prepared', and the 20th is still listed as the date. Looking promising.
I upgraded two lines and wasn’t charged the activation fee. Pleasantly surprised actually. That’s usually the other yearly ritual...chatting with AT&T for 20+ min to get the $30 fee waived haha!!
First year using AT&T for one of my phones. When do you start seeing movement and how do you check?
I started Friday at 8:00 am was not able to complete the order for 45 minutes on the desktop site to order an iPhone 11 Pro.
I received a confirmation.
I guess despite my confirmation, during the morning crashes, some of the information on my order was not received so they canceled the order.
I had to re-order Friday evening and the ship date went from the 20th to the 23rd-30th...so far...

In my experience... you won't start seeing movements until Tuesday or Wednesday... you will receive an email with the tracking number and the company they will use. Sometimes they use USPS or FedEX.
You also can check your "progress" using your order number and zip code using https://www.att.com/checkmyorder/omhub.rt
Here’s my situation:
I just went and paid off my 10xMax a few hours before preorder to get the $600 trade in back off the Apple Store app, and at time of preorder, decided to see whether ATT or Apple would get through first for 11 ProMax Green. They both opened very close to same time, and even though I only have 1 phone number I’m upgrading, I have an order preparing to ship from Apple, and an Order in Progress from ATT, so appears to be completed orders for each. So will see how this all works out. Att was put on Next plan as a new Installment as I paid my phone off, and the one from Apple will be on their IPhone upgrade plan. Wouldn’t think it possible for 2 phones for one number here. Any ideas?

You’ll usually see something on Wed or Thurs. For me, they’ve always used FedEx and the tracking will drive you crazy since (my understanding) is their iPhones are all palletized and go out in bulk from some central location in TX. (Again, that might be just internet lore, so take it FWIW, haha!!)
And, if AT&T says “delivers by the 20th” you will get it on the 20th. They’ve never let me down (knocks on wood).
You don't pay the Activation / Upgrade fee of $30 until you actually complete the iPhone setup once they are in your hands You will still get to chat with AT&T to try to get them to remove the bogus fee aka extra profit grab.

One of my orders went through fine, the other got the dreaded “we hit a snag, please call us to get you back on track” email. I called and, according to the agent, the system had made two orders for the same number and then froze everything because you can’t have two orders for the same number haha!!
The agent said they’d need to cancel and reprocess. I asked what that would do to my ship date? They said, “If you order today, you will get it on the 20th, no problem.” And they were right, the new order went through, got all the expected confirmation emails/texts, and “My Orders” now shows both iPhones arriving on the 20th. Whew!!

I hear what you’re saying.
I had to reorder one line due to a snag on their end. The agent said “no upgrade fee for you” and the Terms and Conditions they linked to me for acknowledgment show $0 for additional fees. That’s the first time that’s ever happened, as that usually shows $30. The other T&C also shows $0. Again, every other year it’s $30 on that line.
No matter, either way I’m ok. I’ve been with them since iPhone 0 in 2007 and they never put up a fight. But it’s nice that I have a contract now that clearly shows $0 where in years past I of course “agreed” to $30 when I signed the T&C.
In spite of that (or because of that haha) this is still the most wonderful time of the year haha!!

^^ This is accurate. This my 6th pre-order. Typically, your status will change from "In Progress" to "Backordered" sometime early next week. AT&T ships them from their distro in TX, not direct from China like Apple does. Anytime between late Wednesday and early Friday morning you could receive tracking information when they assign a label to your box and receive ontime on the 20th! That's when your status will changed to "Shipped"

It is always such an exciting time of year! I hadn't ordered through at&t in a few years because they really messed up one of my order way back when, but last year was the first time I did again and it was flawless. FedEx tried to deliver, but no one was home so they took it back to the hub and I was able to pick it up in the afternoon. I didn't have to wait until the next day. So, this year of course I went back to AT&T for the pre-order.
I’m the same way normally. Going from the XX max to the 11. I just can’t justify the price difference this year and every X-ray I’ve seen has looked great
Interesting that even today -Saturday- you go to AT&T online and you could have a delivery date by Sept 20. :0

I preordered on Friday at 8:40 am est through ATT website, the website was slow but the order still went through and shows the order number, but two days later still not receive any confirmation email..
I checked https://www.att.com/checkmyorder/omhub.rt but it shows error: "OM120 : Check your entries and try again".
Then I called ATT but the agent said he cannot find this order...

I think it has less to do with the phone and more to do with AT&T's new Next Up plan. If you scroll back there were quite a few people that opted to cancel their orders through AT&T and use Best Buy or Apple because they still offer the Next 24 month plan without the additional $5 a month fee.
But if you don’t order online through AT&T you miss out on $300 reward card, no?
Was there a promotion for a $300 reward card? I never heard anything about it, but then again I'm pretty out of the loop. Unless that was for trade-in. The other places offer credit for trade-ins as well.
But I think the $300 reward card only applied if you add a new line... if I'm not wrong.
Both the BOGO promo and $300 reward promo are only if you open a new line. I just open a new line and dump an old line that doesn't mind getting a new number.
