iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB Space Gray ordered; in-store pickup scheduled for 6 p.m. (knew if I got it before work, that would be a lost day of productivity). Hopefully, this lasts me until 5G is actually stable on AT&T (though given the fact 4G LTE still isn't in many neighborhoods in NYC, I don't have particularly high hopes). Going to be sad to say goodbye to my 7 Plus. It was a great piece of hardware (except for the fact I managed to burn through 3 batteries in as many years).

I ordered mine through Apple's website. But I don't think that matters. I am sure ATT website had the option as well. I think they decided to make their pricing scheme a little bit more transparent. You see what you are paying for: the installment amount for 24 plus $5 monthly for upgrade. I think it is still cheaper than Apple's with Care plan that I don't care (pun intended :D)

No. The Next 24 is not available on the AT&T website. It is only available from Apple, Best Buy, and other third party retailers.

The plans that are available are Next 30, where you can only upgrade after you've paid off 80% of the phone, and Next Up, which is a 30 month installment, where you can upgrade after 50% of the phone is paid off, but there is an additional $5/mo fee for this option.

For iPhone 11 Pro: with Next Up, you pay $560 before you can upgrade, without AppleCare+. With IUP you pay $598.92, which INCLUDES AppleCare+. AppleCare+ for $38.92 is an absolute STEAL.

Ended up ordering (AT&T) through Best Buy site. Att app was struggling big time right after 8am Est. Was able to go through Best Buy process sign up to trade in my X, $400 credit toward new phone. Received confirmation email for pickup on release day. Never went this route before. Hope it works out smoothly.

Anyone else go through Best Buy?

It did not.

Got my second email from AT&T. My Pro Max was unable to complete the order because their system "calculated the taxes wrong". Seeing what support can do. But my other order, iPhone 11 Green, went through no problem.

Anyone else get something similar?

Edit: They said "the upgrade is in progress but haven't submitted yet" whatever that means.

Edit 2: Was advised to cancel my order because the system will not process the order correctly. Now I have to wait 4-5 hours to make a new order for the system to "reset" on my account. UGH.

Not correct. When buying on AT&T’s website you are forced into their “revised” installment program. 30 Month installment agreement plus the $5/mo Next Up charge. The installment contract is 6 months longer than if you do it through Apple! And you cannot upgrade until after 15 payments (and pay the $5/mo fee).

AT&T has agreed (for now) that orders through Apple for a limited time can still finance on the (now discontinued) AT&T Next Every Year plan. So 24 month zero interest financing with no $5/mo fee and you can still upgrade after 12 months with a trade in.

It literally makes zero sense to me why one would finance directly through AT&T vs. finance through AT&T on the Apple site. I’m surprised more people and websites are not reporting on this.

You are 100% right on this. For my 512GB Pro via Apple, I'll have to pay $56.21/month for 12 months before I can upgrade again at this time next year (total of $674.52). To do the same thing via AT&T, they want to charge me $45/month + $5/month for 12 months PLUS I have to pay an additonal 3 months at $45/month to pay 15 of the 30 payments before they will let me upgrade again at this time next year (total of $735). I know it's not a huge difference but it's essentially a $60 money grab from AT&T - I'm certainly not going to give my money to them and I hope nobody else does either. The only reason it's even remotely enticing to me right now is because the delivery date through AT&T was still September 20th the last time I checked vs. the October 4-11 date I got from Apple. I can wait though - having it on launch day isn't nearly as important to me as it used to be. I have bigger fish to fry at this stage of my life.

Yep this is Ridiculous of ATT making us pay an extra $60 or whatever just to be able to upgrade in 12 months! I just Cancelled my ATT order and went through BB and will be here on the 20th under ATT next 24 month plan!!

I ordered the Max Pro in Green about 30 minutes ago via AT&T Premier website. Received my 2nd email with confirmation that it will ship on the 19th.

I got a message stating "There was a glitch with my order" message on my Order Status. So I called the number and was told their system didn't "Capture" the monthly installments(whatever that means). Then they had to cancel my initial order and place a re-order. Total process took 45 stinkin' minutes. New order # says delivery is still set for September 20th. This was my biggest concern as I didn't want the ETA to change since this new order took place 6 hours after my initial order. Hoping the delivery date doesn't change and stays on the 20th like the new order # says. The 20th is my birthday and was really hoping to have it on that day. What a mess!

My order 8:03a EDT through AT&T got canceled because they could not verify I placed the order. Reorder would have been several weeks out, so ordered through Best Buy with pickup on the 20th.

Honestly I've never had a problem ordering an iPhone, but of course one the smoothest online ordering, this happens. I'm checking on the site and still hasn't hit my account to upgrade yet hoping it takes 45 mins like yours did. Glad AT&T still has launch day delivery.

I just had to do the same fricken thing! By any chance were you able to pre order before the 5 am time? I was able to get in and order at 4:50.

My order page changed to "There's been a hiccup, but we're ready to get back on track. Call 844-xxx-xxxx" I call and they say there was a system error and they have to cancel and re order. New order still says 9/20 so fingers crossed.

Best of luck to you. Hopefully there will still be launch day availability. I would have them give you the new order number and have the At&t order status page up. Then type in the new order number to see what delivery day it gives you. I did the same and saw that it was still the 20th while I was on the phone with them. If it was a later eta, then I was prepared to cancel and go to BestBuy.com to purchase. I also ordered at 8:03am. Makes you wonder if there were a small amount of orders that got system screwed up.

No, my order time was 3-minutes after it went live. Yeah, it's nice the delivery date says 9/20 but I'll keep refreshing hoping that doesn't change. I also did not receive my second email but did with the iPhone 11 I ordered my wife a few minutes after I ordered my 11 Pro Max. Her phone order is perfectly fine. It was just mine that got screwed up. I hope to receive the second email on mine confirming everything.

I actually just cancelled my Apple order and ordered through BB as well, and it looks like I should be able to pick it up in store on 9/20 (I would rather have it shipped directly to my house but it said that a signature would have been required and I don't know if they let you pre-sign like Apple does). Maybe I'll reach out to BB and see if that's an option but I'm happy either way.

Well, I wasn't expecting it to be this bad. Here is my preorder experience.

Apple App launched about 2 minutes late for me after continuous force quitting and restarting. After about 5 mins of the app finally being online the ship date for the iPhone Pro Silver 256GB went to October 4th and I was like hell with that and went over to ATT.

For 30 mins I tried placing my order on ATT (App and Desktop)

Pages kept freezing.
Error with my payment.
Blank Screen after check out.
Place order button disappeared.

In my opinion, this was one of the hardest preorders for me personally since the iPhone 6 Plus and I prepare for these preorders days before they go live.

Regardless, after 30 mins and starting to accept failure this magically appeared in my check order status and I received my email and my bank was deducted $109.25 for the Tax. Delivery Date of September 19th!

How did you manage to to get it day before launch day lol

question, what's BB?

This is the first time I have ever ordered iPhone through AT&T's website. Apple always sends my phone via UPS and about mid-week I am able to have it held for pickup at my local UPS center for Friday morning. How does AT&T ship their launch day phones? If it isn't UPS, does the shipper have the same hold for pickup option?

Did anyone’s order status just changed to Back ordered? I just received the second email saying “We’re good to go here are the details” and then I checked the order status and it changed to Back ordered. :/

Oh bummer. Which model did you order and at what time please?

I had my Mac with Apple & AT&T split screen. I had both apps open on iPhone with Auto-Lock set to never.

AT&T app on phone let me in first, about 3 minutes before 5am. Went through the normal steps, and then the new Next naming thing confused me. I was not aware that AT&T renamed the plans (over the years, I’ve had both Next 12 and Next Every Year). I stopped everything on my phone and did a Google search on my iPad. I read it pretty quickly, so I wasn’t sure I comprehended it all. But from what I understood in a few seconds, while in a rush to get back to my order, is that Next Up is Next Every Year.

Why in the heck did they change the name? To me, Next Every Year is pretty darn clear about what you’re getting. Even Next 12 was a better name. Whatever.

So, with that said, I would’ve been checked out before 5am, but even with stopping mid-order to get the info about Next, the timestamp on my order is 5:03:53. I’ve received several emails already this morning. This last one was the total order summary, which has info I wasn’t able to see yet on the website.

Despite what an AT&T customer service rep told me yesterday (online chat) - even after asking her manager, I did NOT have to pay tax this morning. It was added to my monthly bill. It must be a per account decision, based on your payment history and how long you’ve been with the company. The only time I’ve had to pay tax, was the time I waited in line (15 hours) overnight at the AT&T store to get the 7 Plus Jet Black. I had to pay tax in the store, they could not add it to the bill. I’ve also pre-ordered from Apple in the past, and I don’t ever recall having to pay tax up front. I could be wrong about that though. I went through all my receipts last night before pre-orders and it did not look like I did. The reason this was important is because I’m on my sister’s plan, and recently I moved 8 hours away. I had to figure out the whole billing, shipping, payment (if I needed to pay the tax), etc., beforehand. When I spoke with CS yesterday, she made a note on the account with my shipping address. I had heard mixes answers about AT&T shipping phones to anything other than the billing address. I was able to add my address upon checkout, and should it get flagged, she said yesterday, they’ll see the notations she made. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly, and I’ll have a phone next week.

Anyway, it’s over. The easiest pre-order ever.

Pro Max 256GB Silver. Same color last 2 years (X & XS Max). Case just arrived this morning. Same case 5 years in a row. Apparently, I’m boring and a creature of habit.

Looking forward to the 20th, even though my delivery date says the 19th.

That is the correct state for devices ordered from AT&T at this point. AT&T has not received & entered the devices into the inventory system. It happens this way every year. Apple has to ship the bulk orders to AT&T and the other carriers. These bulk orders will ship at the same time frame as the Apple direct orders from China.

The bulk of the AT&T orders will begin to get tracking numbers late Thursday afternoon with overnight shipping to your address for Friday delivery.
