Does nothing to refute @code-m argument though does it? Tim Cook himself has admitted, iPhone users are holding on to their devices longer.
No, but that argument can't be proved either, which makes it just an opinion, which can't be proved or disproved. Apple is not a stupid company, which is why it pulled $52B last quarter, with the wearables business, making more in a quarter than some companies make in a year. And I think Apple wants customers to hold onto their phones longer, and if they decide to upgrade, there will be a compelling reason for these customers.

I’d say your post needs expanding here. It’s not just ‘iPhone users’, consumers in general are retaining their devices longer. Why? Because market saturation and unstable pricing for a smart phone isn’t justified to upgrade annually when Smart phones generally all accomplish the same tasks.

Look at what happened to Samsung, their second quarter sales were abysmal, and the latest prices of the new Note 10 clearly reflects why they’re struggling to sell a device in _that_ price range.

Minus the headphone jack. Is Samsung getting a pass on that.

Well, considering they chastised Apple in removing the 3.5 Jack and yet they did it themselves isn’t a ‘good look’. In the end, Bluetooth is ubiquitous now and a wired world has been fading for quite some time.

Doesn't need much expanding on. Samsung is another example of a company selling phones at price points which are turning consumers off.

I like that Apple is using ‘Pro’ to denote high end features - and an accompanying high price.

I guess it leaves them to put all of the super high end things that they’ve probably wanted to add to the iPhone whilst leaving the XR as the mainstream phone.

Thinking that through:

I wonder if the XR2 is simply going to be called ‘iPhone’ whilst the Pro will be called ‘iPhone Pro’?

I guess though that that naming system wouldn’t be confusing enough though.

- We get an iPhone Air, i.e. a tiny light phone with great battery life and just the basics, the size of the sadly defunct SE or the iPods.

Yes, please. Although I've got a fresh SE waiting in its box for when my current one passes on.

Pro makes perfect sense when it supports the Pencil. Who is going to carry a Pencil with their Pro is anyone's guess.

Very interested to see what they are going to do with the price/configurations on these new phones.

Samsung’s Note 10 base model is 256gb at $949. The equivalent iPhone is the XS Max 256gb at $1249.

Apple are out there in their own price point atm.

Not really. I’ve seen a lot of photographers now use iPhone for videos and photography and the results are mind blowing. I’m sure it’s gonna be even better with the 11 pro’s camera.

I don’t care much about this though. I can live even with a camera with the quality of iPhone 8. Just gimme my god damn SE flagship!

A good photographer can take your camera, whatever it is, and get way better results than you can.

I have taken some really cool pictures on an iphone....on someone else's iphone...even action shots.

But there are many reasons not to use an iphone for serious photography. Certainly you can use it if there is no other camera available, but it will never be the "best" camera. But this is something that is hard to explain to someone who hasn't learned the benefits of interchangeable lenses, large sensors, instant shutter response, and manual focus control.

Right. For a month. However the question is how many people will opt for the note 10 over the max in this configuration? If deciding between these two phones.

This leaker Mr CoinX is a Chinese leaker connected to the assembly plant.

If true, the iPhone Pro would have a stylus like a smaller version of Pencil and will compete directly against Samsung Galaxy Note. That would make it the direct descendant of the Newton so if anyone claims Apple is 'copying' anyone just remind that noob what Apple was experimenting with in the 90s.

Literally the whole smart phone market today owes everything to the Newton and Palm Pilot.

But between the two devices Apple will still sell more I’m guessing...

This whole new phone every year with a higher price tag each year is getting old. I am on a iPhone SE as I got it brand new for $139 via my prepaid company. It works and runs the latest iOS. My next jump will likely be the iPhone 7 as it’s a good price for what you get. I can’t understand how many people upgrade each year and willingly pay more and more. Obviously just my two pennies.

He properly doesn’t count the punch as a notch...end of the day there is still a distraction wether it’s a notch or a punch hole...until phones become a plate of glass it’s really not much difference.

I know how much a dead pixel on a monitor hacks me off, so a large hole in my display? No thanks!

I don’t think there is much in it. Selling more than struggling Samsung isn’t any particular cause for celebration really.

The point is it provides a barometer for people to see how little value they get from Apple at this price point vs the competition.

I think when your sales are dropping at record pace It’s probably not a good look to be 30 + % more expensive than the, already high priced, competition.

It’s only naming people, calm down. It’s very possible the now XR will be called iPhone 11 (since it’s the best seller) and the 5.8 and 6.5 OLED models will be called iPhone 11 Pro.

This is what I’m thinking. Makes the most sense. Simplifies the naming scheme.
