So pro will just have a nicer camera and maybe pencil support.... Great lol
XR Looks more and more likely like the better phone

I don’t think there is much in it. Selling more than struggling Samsung isn’t any particular cause for celebration really.

The point is it provides a barometer for people to see how little value they get from Apple at this price point vs the competition.

I think when your sales are dropping at record pace It’s probably not a good look to be 30 + % more expensive than the, already high priced, competition.
The thing is your definition of value is very different from mine and maybe a lot of other people. Like, I could say I see little value in android as a general statement without any backup.

However the barometer is the $52B in sales Apple managed to earn last quarter. It seems apple doesn’t Only depend on iPhone revenue.

Honestly, this makes sense to me. For no other reason, it will makes sense as to the general Apple naming scheme now.
Mac Mini - Mac Pro
iMac - iMac Pro
MacBook Air - MacBook Pro
iPad - iPad Air - iPad Pro
and now, maybe, iPhone 11 - iPhone 11 Pro
The whole X, XS, XS Max, XR was and is confusing and dumb sounding too me.

It isn't about my opinion of the value Apple offers with the Xs and Xs Max the market has already spoken to that. XR almost outselling the other two combined you don't have to be a genius to work out why.

What revenue they earn elsewhere is irrelevant the thread is about the iPhone.

Samsung are hardly struggling

They are the number 1 smartphone maker in the world

Certainly is your opinion. What were apple's sales targets and how many did they sell? Unless you can answer those questions, you are posting an opinion.

The revenue they earn elsewhere is very relevant to this discussion. Apple is a multifaceted company transitioning into revenue from other categories.

They, like Apple, are not really moving numbers of their flagship phones. Their market share increased but operating profit for mobile down 42% on last year.

Like Apple the numbers are coming from their cheaper models.

No it says more about

ecosystem
Support
Performance
Updates

Making a big difference in people buying these phones

All that is true of the cheaper models and it all existed before the phones hit the $/£ 1000 + price point.

It is already happening see declining iPhone sales for reference.

The logical mind will agree as the writing has been on the wall since last year, however there are some blind supporters that Apple can do nothing wrong and will seek additional verification thus my comment was worded accordingly. ;):)

iPhone Pro needs to be the following:

  • Thunderbolt 3/USB-C port
  • Running iOS 13 as well as Catalina when point 3 is done;
  • Plug into a 5K monitor, pair with Magic Keyboard & Mouse to have a full desktop machine

If it ain’t that, it ain’t Pro.

It will have none of those things but will have a bigger Taptic Engine. Can we put you down for a 512gb model at $1500?

Depends on the users needs. Some want OLED display, better camera and updated features or sometimes people are just due an upgrade so go for the latest model that will last them for a few years.

You certainly get better value for money buying latest iPhones than latest android due to the above and future resale value

The numbers are starting to show that most don't care if it is going to cost them £1000 +

Resale value might be a consideration if you plan to upgrade frequently it matters much less if you plan. to hold on to the phone for several years as the difference dwindles over time.

But that probably tells more about thebuyers than about the phones.

That’s the same excuse people always bring up when Apple continues to sell record numbers of products - it has to be brainwashed buyers as opposed to superior products.

Any excuse at all as long as you can continue to slag Apple or their users, I guess.

What writing is that? That Apple has actually increased their user base of active iPhone users? That they’re successfully widening their product portfolio and still bringing in record revenues?

Apple doesn’t care if iPhone sales are down slightly. What they care about are the almost 1 billion iPhone users there are and the fact the vast majority of them will be upgrading. Doesn’t matter if they hang on to their iPhones for 3, 4 or 5 years - they still get the sale in the end. So Apple doesn’t sell 215-230 million iPhones a year anymore. They’ll be happy with a stable 180 million a year that people upgrading will buy along with the related products and services that go with them. And even that “reduced” sales number still eclipses what all the Android vendors combined will be able to sell (flagships).

Edited: For further proof Apple is less concerned about sales is the fact for 2 years straight (iOS 12 and 13) they’ve actually made older devices faster and usable for another year. This is not what a company trying to force people to upgrade does. Giving consumers more life (value) out of their devices is what keeps people loyal and more likely to buy another iPhone.

This is literally the opposite of the Android world where updates and support are all over the place.

Some blind critics, seem not to understand how apple’s business model is changing, because they can’t see past the collective noses on their faces. I’m sure you will agree to that.:p Apple cannot do anything right. I think that’s a fair statement of the opinions on the “other side.”

Are you trying to deny that iPhones have much smaller storage than Samsung phones at the same or higher prices?

If it ain’t that, it ain’t Pro.

I'd like to add 8GB of RAM in order to be able to multitask better.

Pro for a phone? 'Pro' has lost all meaning

I guess it is somehow logical way how to finally introduce USB-C connector to the iPhone. Same as on the iPad PRO. It may offer similar connectivity for a hefty price-tag.

The naming at Apple is getting ridiculous. They use to keep everything nice and simple. Now we have all the TV and TV+ and News and News+ and iOS, tvOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS.
We use to laugh on Microsoft on their naming. Now Apple is doing same monkey business. I am waiting for the announcement of MacOS X PRO and MacOS X PRO+

I don’t agree with the pro monicker in general, let alone the unnecessary increase in price in most of the cases, however just to be a devil’s advocate...

Imagine professional photographers that want to replace the sony rx camera they always carry in their back pocket...

I know, I am just being asinine but still, there you go, an actual pro case scenario. Better that than the dreadful ‘RED camera phone’...!

You can actually NEED more than the current RAM available for your current daily workflow?
I am not a power user when it comes to phones, I prefer my iPad for my ‘serious’ daily needs, but unless you are editing long 4K videos, using some serious photo editing tools or just ‘keep all apps open until you reboot your phone’ once per 2 weeks (I know iOS does a fine job at that as it is, but still...) I cannot think of a plausible scenario where you would need more RAM than the current gen...
