I'm still on the iPhone 6S+ and have not seen any reason to update my phone except for a better screen and more RAM. I have noticed several instances a week that the App isn't enough. I wouldn't say I am a power user, but I have lost money because apps that I use get reset if I try to multitask. If my current phone had 4GB of RAM, I wouldn't need to upgrade it for another couple of years.

This article is talking about Apple using the "Pro" moniker for it's phones and so yes, a Pro phone that would be marketed towards "power users" should have more RAM so "Pros" can do more professional work like editing long 4K videos or for seriously demanding workflows.

The only reason Apple doesn't offer more RAM is because of profits and planned obsolescence.

Bonus tip: There is no need to reboot your phone to clear the ram, you can just hold the power button down until you see "slide to power off" and rather than sliding the button, just hold down the home button and your phones RAM will get cleared.
Please don’t provide people with completely unnecessary “tips.” You do not need to manually clear the ram.

I’m quite disappointed that the camera will be the only upgrade (i.e. we could kill the notch for good but instead we’ll dick around with useless camera features)

Are you trying to deny that iPhones have much smaller storage than Samsung phones at the same or higher prices?

What does that have to do with anything?

It’s the same old tired argument all over again. People like to make a laundry list of all the features that a competing android phone has and use it as a reason why the iphone is supposedly falling behind or how Apple is trying to con me. Until you realise that many of the features in said android phone aren’t as polished, or are gimmicks that don’t see much use.

Here in Singapore, anyone who preorders the Note 10 will get a free upgrade to 512 gb of storage plus some freebies. For someone who is in the market for such a phone, good for them. But you know what? It’s still not going to tempt me to switch over, because for all the spec boosts, it’s still the same Samsung phone under the hood.

I am not going to get the same integration with my other Apple products, or the app selection, or the support. I won’t be able to airdrop files to my iPad and vice versa, or mirror it to my Apple TV, to share app purchases, and so on.

Apple products have never been cheap, I acknowledge that, and I willingly pay the “Apple Tax”, because I know that this premium will eventually pay for itself in the form of improved productivity and fewer problems overall.

If that was the case, then Apple wouldn't have included it. Just because you don't find it useful doesn't mean others won't.

I really wish they would just number things incrementally. R, S, Max, Pro, SE, ??, XYZ, +, Big, Mac, Big Mac,...

Whatever. Just don't make me buy the largest to get the highest quality camera. Just won't do that.

If you are using a High-Performance Camera App, then you absolutely do NEED to clear the RAM of Backgrounded / Suspended State apps !

Backgrounded / Suspended State apps SIGNIFICANTLY negatively affect Capture Performance !

Their objects are NOT DE-allocated by iOS when they transition into Background.

As such, they consume precious Available RAM.

The reason Apple included it was for a way to close down apps that are hanging but not quite crashing afaik. Your other obvious option is to manually kill the app. I would imagine if they intended for a "clear ram" option they'd have just built it into settings.

That doesn't mean you can't benefit in other ways. But their reasoning wasn't really freeing ram I don't think.

I agree about the 6s plus. I think it's my favorite phone Apple ever released. I regret getting rid of it in "favor" of the X.

I'm curious to see if this is pro as in "MacBook Pro", or pro as in "Mac Pro". lol, imagine a $3000 iPhone.

People pay $50 for a Starbucks frapuccino in Singapore. Easy to see why people don’t think a $1500 iPhone is not expensive over there

That mockup looks nice though. Better than any other abomination mockups earlier this year.

A good photographer can take your camera, whatever it is, and get way better results than you can.

I have taken some really cool pictures on an iphone....on someone else's iphone...even action shots.

But there are many reasons not to use an iphone for serious photography. Certainly you can use it if there is no other camera available, but it will never be the "best" camera. But this is something that is hard to explain to someone who hasn't learned the benefits of interchangeable lenses, large sensors, instant shutter response, and manual focus control.

I know man, I know, but sometimes a rare sudden event can't be taken with a full set of professional camera because you don't have it with you all the time. So that's why I think professional photographers should buy the pro phone instead just for that case.

Jesus... so many assumptions here. Nobody of you knows whether this rumor is true, nobody knows which features will make it into the phones in the end, nobody knows what the pricing on this thing will be and yet still 90% of the people here already complain as if their phantasy already happened...

And btw, Apple has been very consequent about the "Pro" Label most recently, targeting the professional market, so I highly doubt they're going back to retard mode anytime soon.

100% guarantee it won’t have 5G compatibility. Intel, their modem supplier couldn’t build a 5G modem and they were in a legal battle with Qualcomm until very recently, way too late for Apple to put their modems into this years phone.

The dummy models floating about have been spot on for the design about the last 5-6 years running. Not a guarantee but Apple is a very predictable company these days.

As for pricing they will either freeze them at last years prices or go up. They don’t want to lower the prices but they can’t really increase it either because they know sales will fall further. So freezing them is a middle ground.

I am personally hoping sales tank this year. Pricing on all their products is getting out of hand now. Top end, best of the best iPhone should be £1000 maximum. Apple bumping up prices is making other manufacturers like Samsung etc bump their prices up as well. However even with their price increases their products are still considerably cheaper than Apples. Design wise they are starting to outdo Apple.

FYI, just discovered iOS 12.4 either has a Bug, OR a new self-imposed AirDrop xfer limit !

Very-likely the latter, & very-likely because it would help position some new Wired solution better (in the new 2019 iPhones).

Food for thought.

How would X XS X-RAY & XS Max users do that?

I don’t see why this deserves the 11 moniker. It’s still the iPhone X design with an ugly square camera. I think Apple should only change the number when the design itself is changed. This should be the iPhone XSS or something.

I suppose this is the consequence of being on a three year cycle now compared to the good old days of the design being refreshed every two years.

Apple is widely expected to release three new iPhones in the fall, and an anonymous Twitter account with a proven track record has suggested that at least one of the models will have "Pro" in its name, such as "iPhone 11 Pro."

The tweet comes from a mystery account named CoinX, which has accurately leaked several details about upcoming Apple products over the past year, including the names of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR before anyone else, the removal of the headphone jack on 2018 iPad Pro models, and much more.

CoinX's accurate leak about the 2018 iPhone names:

In this case, CoinX phrases the tweet as a rhetorical question, but the account has a perfect track record so far with all of its leaks:

For what it's worth, MacRumors received the following anonymous tip on August 4: "The square camera iPhone will be called the iPhone 11 Pro. This is fact." It would be a disservice to our readers to simply pass along any unsubstantiated tip we receive, but it is now worth mentioning in light of this tweet.

This could mean the 2019 lineup will include the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, and perhaps the iPhone 11R, but we still don't know for sure.

Apple is widely expected to unveil three new iPhones next month, including two higher-end 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED models and one lower-end 6.1-inch LCD model. Rumored features include triple-lens rear cameras on the higher-end models, larger batteries, two-way charging of AirPods, and much more.

BUT NO 5G....No thanks.

Pro for a phone? 'Pro' has lost all meaning

absolutely. But, hey wait. Can I produce content, that I can sell? Will it have features, that will give me an edge over a consumer product? Will I be able to earn money with it? Well then, its a Pro thing...

Actually apple lost its pro base like 2013? With the trashcan?
