Are you trying to deny that iPhones have much smaller storage than Samsung phones at the same or higher prices?

Ok, I’ll bite.
Apple Flagship vs. Samsung flagship:

iPhone XS Max w/ 512gb internal - $1349
Samsung Note 10+ 5g w/ 512gb internal - $1299

Ummmmm..... so, where’s that “much smaller iPhone storage at higher prices”?

I used to get a new iPhone every year.

Now I’m at the point where I don’t bother.

My head says, get the latest, most powerful model.

My heart says. You can’t afford the new $1250+ iphone. So stick with your iPhone 7.

Thing is Apple. If I can’t get the best, then I won’t upgrade.

By having stupid prices. You’ve broke the upgrade cycle for many many people...

Doesn't matter if you have the budget. Paying for the new phone just doesn't bring enough of an upgrade. I would spend $5k tomorrow with Apple if they released products that I felt were worth of buying. (Black Airpods, small iPhone, MBP without Touchbar, homepod that had bluetooth enable, decent in house monitor).

I like that you compare the price of the Samsung phone that was release like last week to the iPhone that's a year old… and is in, at least my opinion - you can argue it however you like, is a different category given the S-Pen and 5G (let alone UFS 3 storage) neither of which the iPhone offers. Now, had you compared it to the S10+ (with an internal 512GB rather than 128GB + a 400GB Micro SD card) that would have been a more sensible comparison given the S10+ is the direct competitor to a Xs Max.

Dear Apple, I'll bite. I hardly ever comment on forums because I don't think you care. I've been a long time iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and Apple TV user. I can say this without hesitation. You are confused. You can't figure out what people want anymore, what to call it, or how big/little it should be. When the iPhone launched over 10 years ago, it was innovative. It was simply, iPhone. Today, lets face it, the iPhone and iPad aren't innovative. Each year, it's a bump in design or specs or both and sold as "Innovative" "We think you are really going to like it" is getting old. The crazy naming should just stop. XS, X, Xr, XS Max, Max, iPad Pro, old iPad Pro...now new Air...not like the old Air...whatever...at the end of the day, it's an updated model. I think what people really want is to return to innovative features...not camera bumps. At what point is a camera good enough for the average person? And really, who cares about Animoji? As a business person, I need security, something that would integrate mail, calendar, To Do lists, and notes nicely that's not named Microsoft. I don't want a map service that leads me astray, I want a real time navigation system that will quickly inform me of accidents, road construction, etc. that I can use without launching a separate app. You want to "wow" me again? Get back to innovation, not making spec bumps. Re-define the space. I don't know what that looks like now and didn't know what what it was 11 years ago, but I know this...no one knew when the iPhone came out what they needed or wanted, but iPhone blew us all away and changed the phone, music, video, and internet forever...and did so with simple and easy features. I'd be OK if a new iPhone and iPad wasn't released annually, but maybe every two or three years and more concentration was put into iOS. Let's get back to this, name it iPhone and iPad. Make the large versions "plus" and smaller versions "mini". Get rid of pros and airs...AND focus on customer service again. Reinstate the ability to call a local store...please.

Apple still makes excellent products and services. I admit that the naming / various sizes can be confusing, but at least there are options.

Apple took an MP3 player and a phone, 2 things that a lot of people already had, and made them so much better.

What else do people carry on them everyday that Apple can change? Apple Watch and AirPods are both a huge success.

Apple is still innovating and is still extremely successful. Things change. They’ve gotten so big and lost Steve so of course things won’t remain exactly how they once were.

Wish I saw this earlier. I'm predicting that they're going to entirely drop the numbering system. Henceforth the new "iPhone XR" will be the "iPhone" and the new "iPhone XS" will be the "iPhone Pro". There will be an "iPhone Pro 5.7"" and an "iPhone Pro 6.5"".

Generally speaking people are upgrading their mobile devices less often than they did in years past, adopting a longer upgrade cycle as new features feel less "essential" to the experience of using a mobile device. So I think we are approaching a period when the numbering system is merely an anachronism and is generally irrelevant outside the service/support context, just as it is with the iMac or the MacBook Air/Pro.

I don't disagree they make great products. The quality of their items are second to none in my opinion. I'm specifically referencing the iPhone and iPad. It could be both items have reached maturity, but for the sake of all things good, land on a naming scheme and stick to it. You make a great point, what else do people carry on them that Apple can change? Maybe it's not so much what people carry, but what they don't carry that could integrate nicely into our lives. I don't know what that is. Watch is great, I love mine as well as the AirPods. Personally speaking, I just want simplicity with technology. Too many devices do the same thing, but differently. Asking Siri on my HomePod vs. asking Alexa similar tasks garners different results. Alexa is flat out easier and more robust. Having 3 apps for traffic and navigation is ridiculous... Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze. Anyway, I don't want to hijack this thread which was about names. Great comments. I still love Apple and look forward to seeing how Apple Card works. Again for me, I'm looking for simplicity.

Hasn’t broken it for me. I just sell my used device and get a new one. With iPhones having excellent resale value (because of their known quality and support) it’s easy to trade up every year.

Apple always holds a little back for the presentations.. not everything leaks.. I myself simply will not purchase a new device from Apple this year unless it's a used device at a great price. Software changes haven't been enough to push any devices to their limit. They could have just as easily kept all iOS 12 compatible devices bringing them to iOS 13, just not a big enough jump. Still I hold out that the last round of things they do is change all icons within the systems themselves, they need a major overhaul.. don't even get me started on the interface either. Changes are needed before I start jumping on the hardware bandwagon again.

Their internal analysis probably believe that Pro will sell better than Max.

And that's about it. Regardless of how stupid it is.

Yes, but it broke at iPhone X as it was a step to far for many people. im not paying $60+ a month or putting large sums down against the device. If you can commit to pay that a month then good for you.

As much as I have complained about the looks of this iPhone I have to admit that in black color it doesn’t look that bad

Where are you getting $60+ a month from? There’s no way I lose anywhere near $720 a year when I resell a device.

Still not as bad as when they said the iPhone 9 would be called iPhone 10 but written "iPhone X".

Can ya blame them? They had switched from soy milk to almond milk at the campus coffee shop. Everyone was discombobulated for weeks after that.

no not really, a lot of people are happy with something that's not the best.

since, you know, you'll upgrade it in a few years anyway.

Firmly in the 'I'm happy with my current device' crowd.

Upgrading to a current-spec device means taking the bad (no Touch ID, high price) with the good (gorgeous display, camera improvements) and the justification hasn't happened yet.

Confirmed

I don’t know what Apple has in the works, but it seems to me that the road to NOT losing market s
hare is not in an iPhone 11 Pro.
My wish would be:
• Launch a smaller iPhone XR (XR mini) at $649 for 32GB, $699 for 64GB and a larger iPhone XR (XR max) at $749 for 64GB and $799 for 128GB
• Keep the XS and XS Max with a $100 price cut at $899 and $999 resp. for 64GB, $1049 and $1149 for 256GB. Drop the 512GB configuration.
• Launch an iPhone 11 Pro at $1299 for 256GB, $1499 for 512GB of storage and $1749 for 1TB ($2000 with $249 AppleCare+) for anyone who wants to show off a 2K or 2-grand phone with their new Tesla.
