I can only think of their marketing researches showing that people would think that the product is new if it has a new different name to it, hence Plus, Max, and now Pro...
Otherwise, it’s of course, confusing.

I’ve wanted to see something like this for a while. Clean up the naming. The numbers are really becoming a bit stupid, especially with the 3 year cadence we seem to be in for redesigns - 6, 6s and 7 were all essentially the same design. And now X, XS and 11 (maybe?) for the current design.

The iPhone has matured. We don’t need drastic redesigns often just like we don’t see on iMac, MacBooks and iPads.

iPhone 1-2-3....X-11-12 is not too bad yet, what would make it worse when the numbers get even higher, like..iPhone 21-45-123.

Agreed, numbers should be a thing of the past, just call it iPhone, nothing more, you then can chose to have the (lets say) 4.5"-5.2"-5.8", that should do.
Pricing should be the main difference, the more expensive the more you get.

Hmmm ... will we see a $3,000 price tag for the most expensive model with tax and extended warranty added on? ... I wouldn't be surprised.

It makes sense - it's a top quality Apple product with stainless steel construction, OLED screen, pro level storage, new pro level camera. Just need ProMotion screen now.
The XS is pretty much a pro level device so why not have Pro wording?

They don’t really have a history of the numbers always meaning the generation number.
That's no excuse. They should have corrected it when they had the chance. Doing something stupid because you've always done something stupid is not a reason to keep doing something stupid. :)

My iPhone X continues to do everything I need a smartphone to do.

I agree. When Apple decided to release a battery case for the XS that didn’t work on the X I was upset that my $1200 device was so quickly abandoned. But it’s still giving me over a day per charge.

“Rumored features include triple-lens rear cameras on the higher-end models, larger batteries, two-way charging of AirPods, and much more.”

...and much more?

I think that’s a bit of a stretch.

It probably should have read ...for much more...

Makes perfect sense. 2018 was XR, XS, XS Max. 2019 will be Xl, Xl Pro, Xl Max. Mainstream->Premium->Biggest. Much easier for average buyer to understand than it was last year

Has anyone heard rumours if the new iPhone will have 'physical dual-SIM' outside the China market? or again eSIM dual (which most telcos STILL do not support worldwide and thus is useless)?
