I also do know it is mostly all about how you use your phone. But I never, not with X nor with XS, had so many scratches in a short time before I got the normal 11. It is already full with micro scratches and has some deeper scratches too where you don't need some light source and a lot of time to find them. And they weren't here all of a sudden but one after the other. I use it like I used every iPhone. No screen protector but also not with other items in one pocket. Just in my pants or my shirt or whatever. Never with keys, coins whatsoever. Really disappointed. As I said even the XS series didn't scratch THAT easy and XS was a scratch magnet already.

well....if you can’t identify what touched it then how can you make any judgements at all. You would have to be able to say that X touched it and caused a scratch while on the other phones, X touched them as well and did not cause a scratch. You can’t do that though. You would have to reproduce the events that caused it.
Thanks for your input. I've taken my suit jacket along with the iPhone to the lab - it's undergoing examination under an electron microscope to identify which elements have touched the screen of the phone along with a full forensics investigation of my living and working environment.

The initial report is that the iPhone 11 scratches when exposed to oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. They also suspect that contact with human skin and exposure to UV light can also cause scratching.

Absolutely - I'm not denying that something has touched it. But it's nothing that all the other phones haven't had contact with as well. It's just reacted differently. And severely.

It’s not a sentient being. It can’t react. That phone has rubbed against something.

Can't react - ever heard of chemistry?

If the phone melted at room temperature, you would likewise say "that phone has come into contact with some warm air so it's not apple's fault". How does timmy taste?

I don't think there are any scratch proof screens currently, so that shouldn't be a major buying factor.
Every object can scratch, the point is that the iPhone 11 is far less scratch resistant than all the other flagships and previous iPhones. These photos basically confirm Scratch-Gate.

So this is cemented in fact for you. So are you going to continue to complain or are you going to move on to Apple’s competitors in the smart phone world? I’m not trying to be obnoxious, I’m trying to find out what your solutions are going to be because this is now the case for you that iPhones scratch easily so what are you going to do now what’s your next move

Going to keep my XS until Apple fixes the Scratch-gate.

Alrighty then. My 11 pro max after two weeks doesn’t have any scratches(yet). I angled it in sunlight and studio lighting. Still pristine. Here’s my game plan. I have 45 more days to decide if I want to put Apple care on it. If I do, I’ll check the phone periodically over the next 12 months. If I accumulate a ton of micro scratches you better believe I’ll take it in for a replacement and pay the deductible which last time was 99$. Meanwhile I’m going to enjoy the superb battery life and cameras. Good luck

Wow.....this subject is getting a lot of attention from brand new posters, isn't it?

Photos of scratched phones basically confirm Scratch-Gate for every phone ever in that case.

Better safe than sorry, I'm not taking a risk for $1000 with the softer glass.

Funny that all the people denying the facts have iPhone 11 in their signatures. Trying to avoid the buyer's remorse?

The same "softer" gorilla glass being used by other phone manufacturer's? All this has been covered many times in this thread. You should really read it so you don't repeat what has been rehashed over and over.

No need. I always protect my phones. I don't see anyone denying the fact that phones made of glass can be scratched.

We're all enjoying our phones. You're afraid of the boogeyman. The problem? Well, there are people here who are legitimately considering iPhone and your inappropriate, inaccurate posting is giving them a false belief that these devices somehow scratch more easily.

Believe what you want. But don't mislead posters here.

Every year, every iPhone iteration, there is always a slew of threads from people (specifically new trolls) that cry foul when they mistreat their devices and tout it as a “gate”. Same old, same old. Don’t feed the trolls.

iPhone XS Max here. No protection, not a scratch. 1 year, 2 months old. I treat it like all my other devices. I use it and clean it when need be. I don’t baby it but I also don’t treat it like a console controller either.

Have a great day Geomaxr! :)

And every year, there are defects in every product line. Almost every year MacBook Pro from 2008 to 2016, iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone X, and probably the iPhone 11 too based on the photos. Buyers should wait until Apple fixes this defect in future shipments.

I had a launch day iPhone 4, 5, 6 and X. What defect are you referring to?

iPhone 4 - Antennagate
iPhone 5 - Power button defect
iPhone 6 - Bendgate
iPhone X - Touch screen cold weather defect
iPhone 11 - Scratchgate

You think there's a phone in the world that doesn't have some kind of issue?

All the early testers for Pixel 4 seem to have had trouble getting the new Soli chip to work more than 50% of the time. That's a high rate of failure from what was advertised. Should we call it Soli-gate now? And while you're at it, you might as well come up with some creative gates for:
1. Pixel 4 Face Unlock working with your eyes closed.
2. Samsung's in-screen fingerprint reader unlocking with a $1 screen protector.

I used my iPhone 11 Pro for a week without any screen protector for about a week and there were zero scratches even under light. I can't comment as to why other people have been having problems with their devices as I don't know their usage. But more shatter resistance means the glass is softer but not delicate as a flower soft FYI.

That’s pure silliness. I can tell you I’m a ‘Day 1’ purchaser for dozens of Apple products over the years (AirPods, Apple Watch, multiple iPads, iPhones,
Ect) and I’ve never had an issue with them. Are there possible hardware issues in the first batch of XYZ Apple product when it’s release? Sure, but it doesn’t mean every Apple product will experience the same defect. Apple

If you’re that fussed about scratches, there is an answer. Use a screen protector. It’s really not rocket science. So what if you don’t like protectors? They’re better than scratches, surely?

Should a $1,000 phone scratch so easily? No. But don’t be naive and think it’s immune. Honestly. Grown men whining about trivial issues when a straightforward solution is readily available.

I've been using my s8 plus since launch day with no screen protector and there are 0 scratches on the screen.
People are posting huge scratches on a 2019 flagship which costs a fortune within DAYS of use.
See the problem there?

Wow, looks like there are trolls on both sides, I abuse the **** out of my s8 plus and it's in perfect condition and no scratches.
Of course, there are "micro" scratches that you can see when wiping the screen and reflecting the light on the black screen, but my point is that it's NOTHING like the pictures I've seen on the internet and news articles, where the screen looks destroyed or unusable on the new iphone.

These are some:
