Just have Apple care and when you have lots of scratches get a new phone mid year.
I like this idea a lot. I have 56 days to get Apple care coverage on my iPhone 11 pro max. I don’t have any scratches as of yet. Still pristine and I’ve tilted the phone under sunlight and studio lighting. But for those of you who already have scratches and still have time to get the coverage this should be a non issue. apple Will charge you 99$ under AC if you go in there and say “I’m ocd I can’t live with this. They’ll swap your device for a replacement. You will NOT get new retail device.

They don’t charge you money if you say there is something wrong with your phone. 99 is only if you break it.

I have never used a screen protector. Just a case and never had a scratched screen. My 11 pro Max is perfect as was my XS Max and all my previous phones. At the end of the day, its about applying a little common sense such as not putting your phone in the same pocket or bag as your keys or other metallic objects. For regular maintenance, I wipe the screen once a week with a damp microfibre cloth and take the phone of out the case to wipe it down and ensure there is no dust or debris inside the case itself.
This has always worked for me and my phones has always been mint at resale time.

Everyone has scratches on their display. No one here using a naked phone has a pristine display. You most certainly have hairline and surface scratches. Which is totally normal considering the fact that glass scratches. These threads are silly in that we all know glass scratches and if this worries you, use a screen protector. Otherwise, accept your choice and accept the scratches! No gate here folks.

I have been carrying an iphone since the first gen. I have always carried without a case/screen protector. I am very careful with my electronics and think cases make people overly confident and careless while holding a $1k+ dollar device.

I still have my 6 and x. I can say without a doubt that there is an issue with the 11 pro. I have had it less than a week and there are two deep scratches on the face. One starts at the top left corner and goes nearly to the bottom right. I have included a picture of the 1 week old iphone 11 pro and my iphone X that is nearly 2 years of use without a case.

Anyone who is saying there isn't an issue, I feel for you. I have not dropped this phone or used it outside of the same capacity of any prior device. There is a problem and the people at ATT are aware of it, based on my earlier web chat.

I am going by an ATT store after work to either return the phone completely or have it replaced. Since I have only had it for 8 days, returning is an option.

I promise you there is more too it than that. 100% without a doubt a softer screen than the X or the 6.

I’ve never used a screen protector on an iPhone and, since the 6, I’ve only ever used the leather case.
looking at my old 6, under direct sunlight at the exact angle, I can see a couple micro scratches.
My Xs Max had a couple micro scratches when I turned it in to upgrade to the Pro Max. Again, if I looked at in the exact sunlit condition in order to see it.
I’m sure if I look at my Pro Max super-duper hard, under direct sunlight, at the perfect angle, there may be one there already. If there is, and I happen to see it, I assume it’s the coating. Whatever.

I’m also an adult who knows because I don’t use a screen protector that this may happen, so I just enjoy my phone and I don’t worry about it.

I would consider a screen protector. This phone
LOL

Is pointless trying to share experiences here. I have owned iPhone since the very first one. I take great care of my devices. This one is different. How is that so hard to comprehend??

I joined this forum just to share my story. Seems like there are a lot of people claiming user error when they likely have their phones in an otterbox or huge bulky case. I have never used a case, I take pride in caring for my electronics. The online chat rep. at ATT said they have never had so many phones returned within days of purchase as the new 11...I will update this comment after I speak to the people at my local store in Chicago to see if they're seeing the same trend.

I find it obnoxious that people deny that there could be an issue simply because they haven't experienced it.

Stories of these scratched up phones happen all the time. They seem to always have commonalities. Such as....

https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5...-within-2-weeks-of-careful-usage/td-p/1247083

However, I notice that the screen seems to scratch shockingly easily. Within a few days already, a number of long, superficial scratches were visible, but now even a short, deeper scratch has appeared. This one especially is very visible and irritating. I have no idea how this is possible, because I treat my S10 very carefully, exactly the same way as my S6 before. I have had the S6 for 4 years, without it ever showing a single visible scratch (only a few very superficial ones over years of usage).

Sounds familiar. You can search for any phone "scratches easily" and find similar stories from folks who refuse to use screen protectors or cases.

It's really amazing to me how someone can simply try to invalidate your experience especially when proof has been provided that a ton of people are going through the same thing. Crazy that even proof had got be provided lol

this looks like someone took a key and jabbed at the screen. if you keep your phone in a separate pockets from everything else, and be somewhat careful otherwise, no way it’ll look like this lol, have had my 6S plus just until last week and have had it caseless since I’ve gotten it from launch... screen looked great

I’m quite OC about my phone so I always have a screen protector on. When I removed the film of my new 11 pro max to install the screen protector, I saw a small micro scratch about a CM long.

I just sucked up my OCness and installed the protector.

Now I hope that Apple realizes that scratches out of the box really sucks balls and if there might be a problem with the oleophobic coating/process then Apple should acknowledge this.

I don't have one scratch on my Pro Max, been naked since day 1.

Good for you man. The scratches obviously aren't magically appearing, but the screen is softer and in time you will see. Don't forget to come back when you notice that first one out of the blue!

You really think I kept my phone with my keys? I have been without a case forever and I've never had a deep scratch like this. Both my 6 and X have nothing visible after years of use. You can "lol" all you want, but when you get an 11 and it scratches up seemingly out of nowhere, I hope you remember this post.

why is this even a thread

If people don't log the issues they have, then how would the manufacturer or general public determine if there was something amiss? You clearly think the problem is purely on the user, but what if you're wrong? I have been carrying an iphone for over a decade and I've never had an issue like this period...never the less in 6 days of use.

Something made that scratch. It looks like something was dragged across it. Like you said....they aren't "magically appearing".

I have an 11 Pro max with a case.

If I do find a scratch that comes out of “nowhere”, I probably won’t do anything. I definitely won’t remember this post.

lol

Even iJustine, MKBHD and Linus have all mentioned that it’s getting scratched easier then other devices. There is obviously something to it.

Mine is still good after nearly two weeks though. Could it be that there were perhaps a few impure batches of the glass?

For me it’s more annoying having a weird mark under certain lights. That’s annoying but trying to ignore it. Since I can’t see it in daily use.

You are correct, they have. Every iPhone *can* scratch but there are easy ways to prevent them from coming up.

- Case & screen protector
- Do not consistently expose with sharp objects (keys for example)
- Possibly find a skin that you like and apply it

You use the phone with no protection, you have a higher risk of damage occurring. Just take care of it and be aware and using the iPhone naked can be used without occurring any scratches.

I think this thread about experiences where the newest phones is scratching far more easily than the previous ones. Of course all iphones will scratch etc. when subject to rough/careless use and over time but thats not the point here.

Also, all suggestions on slapping on a screen protector is wise but thats not the point here as doing so may mask an underlying quality problem on the newest phones which Apple should be made to answer (if indeed true)

BTW, I put a full screen protector and spigen tough armor case straight after unboxing my 11

Does the back scratch more than the front. I’m liking the back without a protector. I usually only do the front naked
