Wow, looks like there are trolls on both sides, I abuse the **** out of my s8 plus and it's in perfect condition and no scratches.
Of course, there are "micro" scratches that you can see when wiping the screen and reflecting the light on the black screen, but my point is that it's NOTHING like the pictures I've seen on the internet and news articles, where the screen looks destroyed or unusable on the new iphone.

The scratch in that video I posted looks just as bad as anything else posted. If you avoided smart phones based on pictures of scratched up phones on the internet then you might as well never buy another smart phone again. Period. iPhone is no different than any of the other phones with wide claims of it being "easily scratched".

These are some:

You will find reports like these for any phone.

These phones all use the same gorilla glass.

This is the first time I'm seeing pictures of scratches before buying a phone I'm interested, so of course I'm ****ing worried a 2k phone can be easily scratched if I put it in my pocket, maybe instead of being so defensive you can say that these reports are common in all smartphones and the iphone will endure as much as my s8.
Instead, all I hear in this forum is "get a screen protector", or "all phones scratch".

Lol dude calm down. If you don’t have Apple care then use a good case! Any phone will scratch and get damaged in the right conditions. I mean drop it. Who cares. Find a better more durable phone. All the big manufacturers use the same glass!!!

I agree with some or most that all smartphones are “scratchable“. But you mentioned something that in my view will help mitigate the issue you in your case. If a 2k phone can scratch and a 400-600$ can scratch than get the cheaper one so that when/if it eventually scratches you won’t be as irate if you spent much more. I have a case on my 11pm but no screen protector. I accept the risk. You cannot at that price point. So get something like a new 8plus Or other option so your level of frustration won’t be as high. If you dismiss this post then that’s your own personal issue. Apples not changing the glass. Nothing will change. There is no gate. Recognize this and plan your move and level of tolerance

My s8 plus doesn't scratch. Why would I spend 2k on a phone that scratches on my pocket? lol, all I'm asking is for it to survive the same or more than a 3 year phone, otherwise why would I buy a stupid toy that scratches on my pocket.

I've been using my s8 plus since launch day with no screen protector and there are 0 scratches on the screen.
People are posting huge scratches on a 2019 flagship which costs a fortune within DAYS of use.
See the problem there?

Put a screen protector on right out of the box and you’ll be fine. Problem solved.

I’ve owned every model of iPhone since the first generation and have never seen a display scratch this easily. I’ve owned the 11 Pro for a little over a week, having only placed it in a soft cotton pocket with no drops and the display is already covered in micro scratches as well as one large, unsightly scratch. The closest I have got to this kind of damage to a display is when I accidentally placed my iPhone 6S in a bag pocket with my keys.

It’s a real shame Apple have used scratch-prone glass in this model. Probably another cost-cutting shortcut at the expense of quality. 10/10

I am reading this thread for the first time, but I've seen articles about this issue on many online platforms. It's not a nice read, for two main reasons. First, the aggression in this forum is getting ridiculous. Second, it seems there actually is a problem with the screen scratching more easily than on older series. Too many people are reporting the same. I have an 11 pro on its way to me, I was planning on using it with no case (as I have done since the iPhones became too thick for my taste, pretty much starting with the X). I can imagine putting a thin case on it with a subtle lip on the front, but I hate screen protectors. I really do feel strongly about them. I guess the phone will go back as soon as it's here.

Age-old problem. Age-old solution.

There were claims the iPhone X scratched "more easily" as well.

And my personal experience, which clearly is of value only to me, confirms it: my X scratched way more easily than my 6. I never used screen protectors on any of my phones, my 6 was with me for 3 years and the X for nearly 2. At the end, the X was in way worse shape than the 6 ever was. Please note, I am pretty careful with my screens. For one, I never lay down a phone on its screen, always on its back. I hope the 11 pro is not even "softer" than the X, it would look like **** after a year!

You can find personal experiences of phones getting scratched everywhere. Including the iPhone 6.

seem to be lots of complaints about scratches do we have SCRATCH GATE ?

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-6s-plus-screen-scratches.1924135/

After two weeks of normal use I have one scratch that I can feel clearly with my nail. I always wear the phone in my jacket and avoid trousers. Also I avoid putting coins or keys altogether. I didn't have this problem with my iphone 4. When I bought my phone in the apple store of Valencia, I also bought the silicon case. The seller insisted to me to buy also a plastic film for the sceen, in a suspicious way. I told I wanted to feel the screen, and that I hadn't had any problem with my iphone 4. Now I understand what she meant.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7242223

Multiple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users have taken to Apple's Support Communities forum to report issues with the handset's display cover glass, which they claim is more prone to scratching than previous iPhone models.

That is not the point. As I said, my personal experience is of value only to me. There is no need to remind me that every phone will scratch, I do know that.
The actual question to be answered is: according to personal experiences of the people here (which are, usually, careful and passionate about their phones), does the new iPhone series scratch more easily than past series? It's as simple as that.

No, it is exactly the point. Personal experiences of "careful" people (no idea how we know this) with scratched phones go back years. These anecdotal experiences are not proof that the new iPhone is more scratch prone. It wasn't proof for iPhone 6 and it isn't proof for iPhone 11. Or any iPhone in between.

JerryRigEverything found iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 7 be equal in its scratch tests. Both had scratches at level 6 in Mohs scale of hardness.

Scratch-gate. LOL. Some of you people are just ridiculous. I can picture some of you constantly inspecting your phones for tiny scratches, many times a day. Over and over. Day and night. And this ‘gate’ stuff is just as silly as some of the arguments being made here about these endless scenarios that might cause a phone to scratch. Good grief people, it’s a phone, not the Hope Diamond. All phones scratch. It happens. It’s a device we carry with us most of the time, and therefore it will likely happen to all of them to some degree. Just imagine how much more you could enjoy the device if you weren’t obsessing all the time about microscopic scratches.

Owning 11 Pro Max for around 3 weeks. I always keep phone in my pocket with screen directed to my body. Virtually nothing touched the screen except my finger. Couple of long scratches for some reason on it already. But I dont mind, since I am being entertained with 4G signal/modem/antenna issue. On a premium phone. In year 2019.

But biggest problem isnt Apple, but the people who would defend Apple company even if iPhone 12 was a wooden stick priced 2000 dollars, under Apple revolutionary slogan: Bringing back nature to you. Health comes before technology.

Its obvious that after Steve passed away, everything is going downhill, slowly, but steadily. They became fashion brand, not leading tech innovators. Innovation dissapeared long time ago at Apple, and now reliability and construction quality is also getting worse. Things that were once dogmas taken for granted.

I've got an 11 and I'm not one to complain, you should see the state of my 2013 MbP's screen and that's all on me, but I did get my first noticeable 0.5cm scratch on the very edge, about a mm onto the screen. You can't see it unless the phone is turned off and in direct light, but you can feel it with a fingernail which has annoyed me a bit. Didn't manage that on my 8 for a long time.

I'm not massively bothered, but if was to have a diva strop and ask for it to be replaced under AppleCare+, will they go for that?

Tech companies have defenders and detractors. So what? This isn't new and isn't isolated to Apple by any stretch. And.....not on topic. Are you just ranting or what?

Ok.....just ranting. Got it.

I'll just throw in my two cents ...

I never use screen protectors, and never had visible scratches on the screens of any iPhone (at least from the 4 through current) ... I still have an old 4S and the screen looks very good.

Scratches are of course visible if you shine a flashlight on it, but it's not noticeable under normal conditions.

My 3-week-old 11 Pro Max has several visible scratches under normal light.

I guess it's time to get a protector for this phone.

We're all enjoying our phones. You're afraid of the boogeyman. The problem? Well, there are people here who are legitimately considering iPhone and your inappropriate, inaccurate posting is giving them a false belief that these devices somehow scratch more easily.

Believe what you want. But don't mislead posters here.

This sums it up precisely. I totally understand that a device this expensive and beautiful to behold will create some anxiety with folks that do not want to think about their new $1K+ phone being more easily damaged. I’m right with you all on that sentiment. But I think these ‘scratch gate’ fears are the result of internet hype more than anything else. The glass on the iPhone is not more susceptible to scratching than previous models. I suppose JerryRigEverything on YouTube likely already demonstratedwhether it’s more susceptible to scratching.

I am reminded of the poster here that told of his disappointment at the fact that the screen on his iPhone had a very small scratch on it so soon. Nevermind that it was in his pocket with his keys.

my 11 Pro has been naked for weeks and is scratch free.

Wait, you mean, you’re not gonna take a LED 700 watt flashlight to shine different angles of your display to find any scratches? 😁 I mean, that’s what others tend to do on here, I figured maybe you would do the same.

The concept of which you believe is a ‘Gate’ is severely taken out of context and is entirely inaccurate. The reason I point this out to you, is because you’ve made comments in various threads using the word ‘Gate’, which is obvious you don’t understand.
yea some people don’t understand these people comparing about scratch gate don’t even have iphones
they just go in forums and make **** up, I think they are upset they they have android or something...then again I would be pissed at the world if I was a android User. Imagine having to wait 3 months for a simple bug fix.

Every year, every iPhone iteration, there is always a slew of threads from people (specifically new trolls) that cry foul when they mistreat their devices and tout it as a “gate”. Same old, same old. Don’t feed the trolls.

iPhone XS Max here. No protection, not a scratch. 1 year, 2 months old. I treat it like all my other devices. I use it and clean it when need be. I don’t baby it but I also don’t treat it like a console controller either.

Have a great day Geomaxr! :)
Hey I treat my controllers well...as long as I am winning 👾
