If you can’t stand scratches like me, use a screen protector. I haven’t even noticed I’m using a screen protector since I put it on as soon as I took the phone out of the box.

If they use a screen protector then they couldn't post on the forums about it scratching.

IMO, Apple's claim for the strongest glass applies only to screen cracking and not screen scratching. Usually displays that are more drop resistant seems to have some weakness when it comes to scratch resistance, and vice versa. If apple were to put a full sapphire display, it would no doubt be more scratch resistant, but it would be more prone to cracks if you were to drop it. It's a give and take for what they plan to prioritise, drop or scratch. Regardless, their claim for the strongest glass is still questionable if it can scratch that easily, and they should not even make that claim and just keep quiet about it.

I scratched up my AWS4 way more than i ever have a iPhone. I am using a Carbon case with no lip so a GSP is a must, and for $15 my spigen is worth every cent.
I got a SE for 3 weeks before the 11 pro and it was like new when i got it, but i still got some light scratches on the screen.

Oh no not Linus? You don't say! Did he take it apart, drop the screen, then Apple refuse to repair it? I hope it's not going to be another I'mLinusAndAppleWon'tGiveMeSpecialTreatmentGate

Umm... ok... lol

Well that was something.

But I think it’s clearly obvious what you’re inferring isn’t the case here

Ugh, just because some of you are not experiecing it doesn’t mean is not happening. Unfortunately this is happening to me, within 24 hours of very careful usage i noticed deep scratches on my 11 pro max and i know for sure I didn’t put it with anything that would scratch the screen like keys. So disappointing. I made an appointment with apple to see what they say.
and? Can you share the result of your visit?

I really want to buy iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB but the "Scratch Gate" really scare me. Super Easy get scratch on iPhone 11 Series screens reports all over the places. What can I do?
It’s not anymore scratch prone than any other steel Apple device. Steel scratches super easy. If your’s are deep scratches that sounds like a freak QC issue and I imagine Apple will replace it. The only way to avoid scratches is with a new Diamond/Titanium material. lol
As others have suggested... I’d get a nice case, (I only get ones that have microfiber inside) as that prevents more scratches.

As I said I only buy stuff with well design, not something that can be easily scratched and I need to buy other stuff just to cover it.
Don't trust well design. I bought a BMW X5 (and 325i) thinking it was reliable and dependable. I was always at the shop getting things fixed and prewired. As for Apple, who cares about a few hairline scratches. They're bound to happen on anything we own. After a while, I stop caring, so I enjoy my iPhones. careless and without screen protectors. Just do your best to take care of it.

I spent some time at the local Apple store and carefully examined every single iPhone 11 on display. Without exception every single iPhone 11 / Pro / Max had lots of scratches on their screens. I realize this has been mentioned before but what I noticed is where the scratches were occuring. Every single iPhone 11 had major scratches on the top right corner of the screen with almost no scratches anywhere else. The fact that the scratches were not random is key. My best guess is the scratches in the upper right corner are due to people doing a swipe to pull up the control panel implying the scratches are caused by fingernails, not 6+ mohs objects. Of course people bring up that demo models take abuse in the store but we have a perfect control for this. Apple stores have iphone 8 models on display next to the 11's. The 8's have been on display significantly longer and every single one of them had scratch free displays. Anyone can go into their local Apple store to replicate my observations. With the A/B comparison between the 8 and 11 in Apple's own stores it is extremely difficult to Apple to deny that the 11 screens have an issue.

You don't know how often they change out phones on display so you can't say that these iPhone 8s have been on display "significantly longer". Obviously the newer model phones are going to get the most attention. So you really don't have enough information to make any conclusions.

There are many tests proving that’s false. The glass on iPhone 11 is durable just like the iPhone XS as far as scratches are involved.

... or maybe not, but a video saying something-gate would lead to more visualizations on YouTube ...

Well, the 11's have been out for about 4 weeks so if you want to play with probabilities it's very likely that the 8's have been on display longer than this. You can nitpick all your want but the fact remains that the 11's have only been on display for a month so there can't possibly be significant discrepancies in time to warrant such a large discrepancy in scratches. One week this way or that way is irrelevant.

iPhone 8 was released in 2017. So are these the same exact phones that have been there for 2 years? Probably not. How often does Apple refresh their display models? I don't know. Neither do you. Do you think it is possible Apple stores put all new stock of display models at the time of the iPhone 11 launch? Certainly possible. But again....we don't know. If you are going to pretend you just accomplished any sort of independent research then these are questions you should have asked yourself. You are making a slew of assumptions.

Jerryrigeverything makes yearly videos on screen durability. Nothing has changed this year. Same scratch resistance. Scratches at a level 6 with deeper grooves at a level 7
Exactly. This. Jerry did the same test every year using the same tools. This year isn’t any different from last year.
same scratches at same level 6.

And this “review” should prove something ?

There's no pretending. Just sharing information with others who may be interested in looking at their own local Apple stores. And even if Apple refreshed all the phones the same day then the display time is equal. You can go ahead and assume that Apple just refreshed all the 8's the day I walked in but you're reaching. Also, anyone can decode the manufacture date of the iPhone but this is irrelevant. Even if I were to pull up a manufacture date that's years old you will have some retort that they just pulled it out that day.

You're drawing silly conclusions from your anecdotal walk through the apple store.....and I'm reaching? That's funny.

Oh....and apparently iPhone 8 had its own "scratch gate". I guess you just debunked that theory with your highly scientific analysis, huh?
