iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Users Complain of Missing SMS Text Messages and Message Notifications

Going on week 3 of the issue. It’s really bad today. Not even an acknowledgement from Apple.
 
Had a new variant today. I had a badge that a new message came in but it didn't show in the messages app. It did show on my Mac/iPad/Watch. When I read it on one fo the other devices, the badge went away on my iPhone. So...the phone saw there was a new message but just didn't display it on the phone. Contacted Apple again who said it was time to see what Verizon could do. Verizon reset some things no their end. When I restarted the phone, the original missing message was there but then I did a test and the same thing happened where the badge showed but the message didn't.

I'm already on 14.2.1, have reset network settings, have reset the phone up from fresh software, etc, etc

I have a similar problem with one contact, had the problem on the X, then after upgrading to the Pro12 I still have same problem. I set up my neighbor in contacts, she has an Android phone, not sure what model, but I have never been able to get the text tone to work on her contact. My ex and my #1 son both have androids and there tones work. She is not home very much because she taking care of her mother with Alzheimer's, so it is important that I hear her texts. Going edit her contact a set up a new one to see if problem persists. Also been several IOS upgrades and that hasn't changed anything. Is there anything in the Android settings that would affect the text tone on the iPhone?

Have latest version of IOS, did not fix. Deleted her contact and old messages and started fresh, still no text tone on iPhone but does work on iMac!

So y’all are continuing to submit bug reports to Apple? That’s the only way this is gonna fixed permanently.

I thought it was fixed but it’s only semi fixed. Still getting weird **** happening. :confused:

I submitted another bug report today. I do not get text messages from my friends and neighbors on android phones. Just nothing. Apple tech support has no idea, Verizon tech-support has no idea. Need Apple and/or Verizon to acknowledge the issue and then I will be able to relax and wait for the fix.

This situation has seriously lessened my perception of Apple Support. Getting notified of text messages, IMO, is a potential safety issue. At least an acknowledgment by Apple would at least give me the confidence that this is being worked on. They won’t even reply to me on the issue.

So you do get the text messages in the messages app, you just don’t get the ding and push notification? I get some SMS messages like from automated systems sending confirmation codes but none at all come through from people using SMS or MMS. It may be the same or similar issue because I also miss a bunch of push notifications. They come through on the ipad but not always the iPhone 12.

That’s correct and is very inconsistent. Where the safety issue come in is that I’ve gotten texts and had no clue that they were there. Now obviously if it was something super urgent, they’d call me, but it’s still a really big deal as my 11 year old daughter has a phone now and if she ever texted me something important and I didn’t see it, that’s not ok.
 
Submitted screen shots of things to apple just now, things I've already discussed with them. It has become clear that their engineering department didn't even read the case file, as they were asking tech support questions which I have already answered and are documented.

So upsetting. I have lost a lot of faith that this will be fixed anytime soon.
 
Quick question to everyone that is missing notifications. Do you all have Apple Watches?
 
I just upgraded to iOS 14.2.1 which supposedly fixes this problem. But I am still having trouble sending some SMS messages. Some go through. Others do not. And some suddenly show up at the destination multiple times.
 
Today I did receive text messages from an Android friend. The person has a newer model Android phone so I wonder if they use a newer SMS protocol then the people whose messages I am not receiving. Separately, I just received a push notification that vibrated the phone instead of chime even though my volume is turned up and the silent toggle is off. Weird behavior.
