Lol, something just sounds wrong about this. You first.
I did it with my old 11PM Apple leather case. It holds the case tight as hell to the phone. No corner issue. The only negative is that it takes some effort to get it off your phone. It will damage the inner lining of the case obviously. But no damage to the phone at all! Yes, there will be glue stuck on the phone. The beauty of your kids stick glue is that it washes right off with water. No damage to stainless steel. Even the case is reusable.

Note that I am only talking about Apple leather case above, not silicone nor clear case.

The problem is there isn’t enough of a lip that wraps around the edges. If they brought the lip of the case in more to completely cover the tiny border of the metal frame the problem would be solved. You can see this if you have one of the more colorful phones a small strip of color is still visible with an apple case on. This was never an issue on the 5 because of the chamfered edges created almost a shelf the cases could wrap around. The iPhone 12 is more of a hard edge.

Yep. Other cases have also struggled with the same issue this year.

This is true, the lip on my $13 Spigen case is more pronounced, makes me the case super secured and doesn’t pop off.

It’s certainly part of the problem at least although I think that there’s more going on. And the gap/channel that it creates around the phone is also a dirt and grit trap.

However, the Apple leather case for my iPhone 12 is fine. I’ve even followed some of the videos where they’ve dropped the phone face down on a hard service. I’ve done this as high as I dare and the case remains fixed - no hint of it popping off at the corners.

My wife has an Apple silicone case which looks very similar in the way it fits - there’s also a border and you can see the frame. No issues with the case popping off here too.

It’s obviously a problem for some people. Is it more of an issue on the iPhone 12 Pro & Pro Max with those shiny and possibly more slippery frames? Is it only a problem for a small minority? I don’t think anyone really knows.

weirdly enough my Plum silicone case doesn’t have this issue but the Navy Blue one does.

I tried it today with the screen facing my leg instead of outwards with my jeans. No issues at all. I still think its a design flaw, but at least I know how to work around it. I’ll probably try and exchange next year once they (hopefully) update the flawed design.

I've also just noticed a scratch on the metal frame. The leather case provides no front protection at all. My phone is only 5 days old and I am heartbroken. First scratch!

Glad to see I’m not the only one having issues with this! It’s super frustrating and don’t want to resort to another case as I have used Apple leather cases for a long time.

Come on Apple, get your crap together!

Got my 12 Pro Max and leather case yesterday. The corners are snug as all get out.
Heck, it was a giant pain just to try and remove it. Thought the dang thing wasn't actually going to come off.

Maybe there's just a bad batch of cases?

Same. Been using a black leather on my PM since release, it's on there real good.

To clarify the problem (I’ve gone through 3 of them), there is no way the affected cases would ever fall off the phone, they aren’t loose in that way. All of the ones I’ve had with popping off corners have also been difficult to remove from the phone, it really is stuck firmly on, just the corners pop out!

The only way I can get the corners off on mine is if I use some force. Same with my 11 Pro Max case.

Granted, YMMV.

The first leather case I had for my 11 Pro Max last year had one corner that wouldn't even pop on. It was thicker than the other corners at the back. So probably a defect in the manufacturing.

Maybe I got lucky with this one this round. In and out of pocket and corners stay on. It's only been a day, though, so it still may happen. I'll update if it does.

The corners won’t pop off unless they are in your front pocket with the screen facing outwards. I changed the screen facing my leg and haven’t had any issues, but I’m pretty sure all cases have this “feature”.

I’ve seen 10 cases myself (6 were in my family). After I changed the way I put my phone in my pocket I’ve no longer had the issue, but I’m pretty sure it’s a design flaw.

I guess this does make sense, I don’t know why but I’ve always put the phone in my pocket with screen facing outwards. However I’ve never had an issue with any previous Apple cases.

Maybe I’ll have another go at some point, but it feels a bit like “you’re pocketing it wrong”, and that shouldn’t be a thing.

You are right. I’ve always done it this way too but I’ve quickly taught myself screen in. And there are no case issues. Still a flawed design, but I worked around it as best I could.
