came here to ditto. have a mini with a screen protector and case. when i first came across this issue last night, i just thought it was because i wasnt used to a phone without the 3D touch layer. apparently not. hoping its a software issue that will get resolved shortly.

Steve never made the comment. I don’t know why so many people continue throwing that line out into the water.
What? But he did though?

in an internal memo or something that was leaked?

***Ahhhhh "avoid holding it that way"

the article title is "you're holding it wrong". Media was making things up even back then, haha.

and the last sentence with the yellow screen? Things haven't changed at all. Haha

I don’t have and don’t plan on getting the mini but came here for the comments.
They did not disappoint 🤣

I do hope it’s just software though, anyone with the mini try using 14.3 beta to see if it made any difference by chance?

I don’t care to get into it with this thread. Steve is not my focus. He is dead. I care about the problem at hand.
I updated my post with an article from 2010. Steve didn't say it you're right. It was news media that coined the phrase "you're holding it wrong".

my the media has a lot of sway in public opinion, don't they 😳

I was finally thinking of upgrading from my iphone 7 and this was the one I was interested in potentially, but I am concerned they are trying to put too much (5G for example) into the form factor. I'd be happy with a more pared down all screen mini device without 5G, magsafe, etc. My worry was that all that tech in such a small phone would overheat. It doesn't entirely surprise me that this is the one first showing up with issues.

i would wait till the 2nd iteration, a lot of internal space was required for the first gen 5G chip as well, a 2nd gen 5g chip is out which would not need all that space for the baseband HW so the bettery space can be reclaimed.

My blue mini has this lock screen swipe problem, both in a case and naked. I hadn't plugged a Lightning cable in until reading this thread--plugged in it works normally. If I drag up from the edge of the display with the top of my thumbnail, it works almost every time, too.

I had an iPhone X that had the unresponsive display bug noted by Apple. This seems different. As others have noted, it is like the swipe point is a few pixels too close to the display edge.

I think the problem might also be exacerbated if you're also a voice over user I had issues with it from the beginning, plugged in, no case no screen protector. It took minutes just to get past the initial setup language selection screen.
I think I now know, hello swipe up to continue in several languages.
At first I thought it might just be me being a unfamiliar with the gesture as it was my first no home button phone experience, but it's become pretty obvious it's not just me. Face ID wasn't to willing to play ball either and knowing that it won't work if I'm wearing a mask anyway and as the swipe gesture problem persisted after I finally got it to work in setup I've decided to return the mini. It was taking to long just to get into the phone every time. I really liked the size of the phone in my hand and when I did get into it to do anything it was so much more snappy than the 8 I was upgrading from. I hope they find a solution for those of you who decide to persist with it.
I'm back to my 8 until I decide whether to go to the SE which will still be some improvement over the 8 at least, or simply replace this one's battery and keep on with it in hopes Apple brings out a phone with better cameras like the 12s and with touch ID too before they stop supporting this one.

Do either have both a screen protector and case. , these seem exclusive to the issue.
Yea neither of them have case or screen protector. I just read through the Reddit thread does seems to be caused by case or screen protector. My case will be here today let’s see if I notice anything.

Glad I saw this. Thought it was just mine! When punching in the PIN it would wig out and just sometimes swipes and taps are not working.

My "regular" 12 has been perfect.

what? neither of them have case or screen protector and after that you say you read and it seems it is casued by case or screen prot??
so which is it ?

Can you imagine getting a new 12 Mini, and the first day you use it, you can’t input your passcode reliably after multiple attempts, and it locks you out for an hour? Kind of a nightmare, hugely disappointing experience.

I didn't have or notice problems until I put on a screen protector.
Typically I don't use one, but read about some people saying they thought the new glass while might be better for breakage, seemed to scratch easier. Guess that was a bad idea. I haven't removed it yet.
