I think FelineTech is right. My problem started after I bought my Apple 12 mini leather case...

PS-the case is awesome, minus the screen issue

The case is nice. I agree. However, the problem happens whether you use a MagSafe case or not. And the fact that changing finger sensitivity to the screen with MagSafe on, also points to it not being the sole cause, in my opinion. The touch capacity is affected with a case and Apple needs to fix that.

Happened to mine last night after I put a glass screen protector on. I thought it was the screen protector and tossed it in the garbage. Haven’t had any issues since removing the screen protector.

This is my first iPhone with a notch but the gestures have been reliable so far, with or without case (no screen protector though).

Coming from the 2016 iPhone SE, I don't really like my 12 mini yet...

- One handed use is way uncomfortable with the important controls either all the way up or down.
- Display has an overly warm tint and yes, I have night mode and true tone off.
- The crossfade transition when swiping up/home from the notifications center still looks broken (thought it was a performance issue on my old SE, since it only did it since iOS14).
- The speakers are a bit treble-heavy... they're loud but podcasts sound annoying now.

Notch and PWM doesn't bother me at all which is good.
You know what, I wish it was smaller and thicker...

tested 2 out of 3 mini 12. all full screen ESR screen protectors but one with Apple leather case. 1st phone no case everything smooth. second phone Case on, only Torch takes effort to respond unless direct middle press. Same phone with case off, the torch responds better. Can it be the apple case with MagSafe causing issue? I dont really use torch so dont care but the swipe and camera work smooth.

I’m having the same issue. 12 Mini Blue 128GB with glass screen protector and leather Apple MagSafe case. I thought it was just me because my wife wasn’t having any issues with hers. She has the same phone just in green with a cheap clear non-MagSafe case.

Having issues swiping up on lock screen, using the camera from lock screen, putting the passcode in, and even trying to swipe to power off and reset.

When I swipe super slowly to unlock it seems to work fine. Although, it’s highly annoying.

I sent in a report to Apple.

Have the problem without a screen protector or a MagSafe case, and it only happens on the lock screen, not on the widget screen if you swipe over from the Lock Screen. Cannot imagine that it’s a hardware issue since it doesn’t happen anywhere outside the Lock Screen “app”.

I’ve never heard anyone refer to the flashlight button on the Lock Screen as the torch button lmao

I have not gotten mine yet but not good news for keeping it! I got 14 days? I think I have notified Apple on the 14th day if I decide not to keep it?

If you have a case and no screen protector, it works fine. If have a screen protector and no case, it works fine. It’s when you try and use both at once that the problem shows.
I can confirm this is the case.
Thought I was going crazy.

Using ESR full screen protector and ESR non-MagSafe case. Touching the camera ring does allow it to work properly. So strange.

iPhone 12 mini here and same issues. But I think it will be fix by software update. Why?
- Doesn't appear when unlock
- Only appear when I use my thumb

I think the Lock Screen is not optimized for 5.4 inches by software bug. Try my little finger, everything work fine in Lock Screen. With my big thumb -> not responding.
I think there is an issue why big fingers when iOS don't know if he need to swipe up or respond to an action (torch, respond to call...)
Try little fingers, you will see how it works.
And I think protective screens make harder to iOS to recognize.

So I think don't worry, just software not hardware. I'm sure we'll see next week iOS 14.2.1 resolving this issue :).

Have not noticed any issues here. But will pay attention to it now.

iPhone 12 Mini with official Apple leather case. No screen protector.

This would never happen if Steve jobs was around
You better believe that! He would actually would use the Mini before release and make it prefect! It would be his phone and you know Jobs, he demands perfection! It would bug him to death and that means hell to pay for his subordinates until it is fixed!
