They should've just offered a voucher redeemable at any apple store for a charger with each phone sold.

If people actually need the charger, then they get one; those that don't, won't.

Chargers can get shipped in bulk in large brown cardboard boxes direct to the stores.

The net benefit to the environment would still be positive, as would the net benefit to their bottom line.

Same goes for the earpods, alternately make that coupon redeemable for $20 off a pair of airpods; gives them a chance to upsell.

The simple facts are..
They are saving the environment with more phones taking up less space on a pallet, smaller box using less materials and no brick.
Yes you can use your old brick and old lighting cable (if still in good working condition) but I believe at a less charging speed than the type c.
They included a cable to ENTICE people to buy a separate brick if they want to use that cable.
They also didn’t include a charger to ENTICE people to buy a MagSafe or Qi charger.
If they really wanted to help the environment and keep tech upgraded, maybe they should do a replacement/swap program where you bring in your old type a brick and exchange it for type c.

It’s a clever sales tactic that does both save environment and make them money.

I’m glad to see Apple is going in the right direction with the environment. This will not only save millions of wasted adapters and headphones but will save environmental cost of transportation
And result in more people buying more adapters separately with separate packaging and shipping.

Without much help for the consumer.

Smaller battery on the Pro Max plus less accessories, still expensive. Yeah, I'm definitely not jumping on this. My 11 Pro Max is fine.

Wrong. Only people who need adapters will buy them vs everyone "buying" one when included with the phone. I will not buy an adapter and I know many people who will not buy one. If you've owned an iPhone since the iPhone 5 you have an iPhone (Lightning) charger.

I know not everyone gives a 💩 about the environment but I for one think we should do all we can to help.

The iPhone 5 adapters won't do that good of a job charging the phones all that well. And certainly those who will buy adapters separately will involve more packaging and delivery vehicles involved, there's really no denying that.

And doing things for the environment and all that is good, but why then have people pay the same for less for that, accordingly charge less for less then. It's certainly not even close to being just or even mainly about the environment.

There's no denying that a huge majority of iPhone buyers already have a charger. Most have multiple since it's easier than dragging it room to room. For the small minority that don't have an acceptable charger they will require extra packaging. Even if 20% buy a new charger that's less than 100%.

So you don't like Apple's solution that will cut down on the environmental impact (This is a fact that it will) what is your solution? If everyone was honest about needing or not needing a charger they could just give a charger that was bulk packaged but absolutely no one will turn down a free anything if it's free. Would you just give everyone a charger and say hell with the environmental impact?

Yes it's going to slightly inconvenience some people who will have to spend $820 vs $800 but it will be a net gain for the environment.

We can get into the fact that Apple could have priced the phone at $780 without the charger but it's obvious that they didn't skimp with features on the 12 so it's possible that they used the money spent on the charger for other components.

They've updated and added/improved things pretty much every year without removing accessories to somehow make up for it. That aspect of it is fairly moot.

You still didn’t answer my question. What is your solution to reducing the environmental impact or you don’t have one. I thought about this and can’t come up with anything other than what they did. The cost is a side part of the deal. Just because the company saves money doesn’t mean they shouldn’t do something if it’s environmentally helpful

Stealing? Customers can just not buy the phone. I'm for sure not buying, but that's more because I'm guessing there's no headphone jack included in this deal.

It's giving less because they know people will buy into their nonsense. In my eyes it's basically screwing people over but we'll see if this is the year people will speak with their wallets. I still hate no headphone jack but I needed the battery life.

That's all great and all, then the company can include the consumer on the savings and not help out the environment and pass on the cost of that to the consumer.

Headphone jack went bye bye with the iPhone 7
And yet not only did Apple include new headphones but even and additional adapter when that happened.

They did screw us with the batteries because suddenly all 6 and 6S models started having battery problems and throttling. Actually my 5 fared better, but AT&T ended support for it, lol.

So did my periodic iPhone purchases.

Gas for the ride: 7 cents.
Money for the meter: 25 cents.
Finding out your new $700 iPhone has no way to charge: priceless.

Jokes aside, I think Apple is just making it easier for people to buy their new case and magnetic charger. So add an extra $100 to that 700 before taxes. Who needs money, anyway? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well it’s obvious that the new iPhone 12 components are considerably more expensive than the 11.

Again none of this changes the fact that it’s going to be helpful to the environment. I’ll gladly forfeit $20 savings if it means helping the environment. People need to stop thinking of themselves and consider leaving the world a better place for others.

And same could then be said about components of 11 compared Xs, or components of 8 compared to 7, and so on, yet accessories weren't being removed.

If people need to consider the world and others why shouldn't companies do that then without passing on the costs of that to people?

Apple: Millions, billions of chargers sold and in use around the world. Removing the included charger from new phones.

Also Apple: Ships USB-C to Lightning cable in every box that doesn't work with 99% of chargers in the world.

Yeah that's the problem, the majority of customers have the USB-A power adapter that came with every iPhone with the exception of the 11 Pro.
In preparation for this move, they should have put USB-C power adapters in every iPhone box since iPhone X at least.

The XS and 11 aren’t comparable models. With comparing the 8 to 7 no the same couldn’t be said. The differences are minor compared with the changes in the 12.

Again what do you think Apple should have done? They could have said screw the environment and keep the status quo but other than that I’m not sure what they could have done. Do you have a better solution other than not liking what Apple did? I sure don’t.
