I did get out for a walk today to a small shopping area about half a mile from my house. While waiting on takeout, I saw my phone go from LTE to 5G when I was playing a video on reddit, so it looks like my 5G is indeed working (yay). :)

At home last night with LTE I was 3mbps down, 0.27 up which is pretty bad. At the shopping area on 5G (not mmWave) it was 38mbps down, 28mbps up, so obviously a huge improvement. Glad at least at home in the 'burbs I have good wifi. The offices where I work potentially will have mmWave, but I have wifi there as well, so I most likely won't use it (haven't been in the offices since mid-March though).

EDIT: I'm on Verizon for reference. Play More Unlimited plan.

Received my Pro Max yesterday, and have had connectivity issues today. I would have ZERO signal (apparently) in areas where I previously had no issues with my 11 Pro Max on the same network (Verizon). It's my first full day with the phone, but so far, that's a pretty big flaw.

iPhone 12 Pro 256 gb on ATT. I am getting superb reception. 5G in most areas. D/L
speeds 2-3 times faster than LTE. Crystal clear phone calls all the time. Not 1 dropped call yet and there were areas where I dropped calls with my 11 Pro. Extremely pleased with the 5G implimintation.

Where are you located? I’m in Long Island near JFK and have no 5G and LTE is about same not much better. I have a Pro Max.

Here is a speedtest through a VPN I have on my phone at 5G.

Most of the connectivity problems seem to be in the northwest and south. I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area and have very good connectivity. I’m on Verizon.

went to the Verizon store today, they didn't give me a new SIM card. I turned off 5g and they told me that would resolve things.

we will see.

I’m in the exact same boat as everyone else. I’m with Sprint/T-Mobile.

Spent the last 3 days doing every reset/troubleshooting step you can possibly imagine from both Apple and T-Mobile. Got a new 5G T-Mobile SIM. Reset the phone in ways you probably didn’t know existed thanks to Apple senior support.

Nothing fixes this issue.

I’m seeing that replacing the phone hasn’t worked for people either...so really don’t want to hold my breath for that one.

Any suggestions? Should I return the phone and go back with my 10s Max? Has anyone experienced this issue with a previous phone launch? Should I try and hold out for some time and risk losing the return window and trade in window?

The way Apple and Carriers are treating this problem is pathetic. Apple senior support still is claiming to not know about any issue when I talk with them.

I had an issue with the 12 Max on Verizon last night. I was at a restaurant in NJ where my XR always struggled. I was looking forward to seeing how the Qualcomm modem did. Well, it showed No Service. I tried toggling off the 5G option and still saw nothing. Toggled mobile data on and off and still nothing. Only when I rebooted the phone did I have service 5G with 1 bar showing. I checked a few times and websites loaded up about the same speed the XR had. I’m definitely going to keep an eye on it over the next 2 weeks and see if there are problems like this again.

I have had my data stop working as well on my 12 pro on Verizon in southeast Michigan. I have another 4g only sim I’m going to try. I only live a couple of miles from work. My 4g signal is fine at home. I noticed this morning while on WiFi at work, my data bars were at zero. I’m also on 14.2. It seems it could be the new SIM card. I could care less about 5g. I don’t even have a new 5g plan as I’m on WiFi all day anyway.
I am in SW Michigan and have had my 12 Pro for a week. Randomly while on a call, the call quality gets worse then drops. This has happened on 5g, LTE and WiFi. I have tried turning off each to see if that changes anything and it does not. I don’t have a problem with connecting to the internet or texts going through. Carrier Att, 14.1. I am currently using SIM card that came with phone.

I am experiencing the same issues also with my New IPhone pro max (got Friday) I use Verizon network. I chose not to use the 5G SIM card which it came with because I do not want the 5G. Put my SIM card in from my iPhone 6. Never had issues with my iPhone 6 and calls breaking up. Now my calls break up terribly. I am not traveling around or in roaming, my calls just break up and people can hear me but I can not hear them. I just do not have the time and energy to wait these obvious issues play out and get corrected. I am returning it tonight at Apple.

Verizon is now looking into tower near me, said if they can’t find anything then they will work with apple to find solution. Such wonderful news...

You can turn the 5g off without changing the SIM card

Another thing the Verizon tech told me is these phones are LTE/5G friendly only so if you loose LTE it will not resort to the 3G as has iPhones in the past (if 3G hasn’t already been dismantled) in your area *Finger air qoutes*

So I don't have a really good update, but I called Verizon and finally got ahold of a representative. She said she'd call the person assigned to my ticket. I was on hold for a good 10 minutes before she got back to me. She said, "The supervisor representative assigned the ticket to himself, which is not supposed to happen." She said that he did escalate it and assign it to someone else... sorry? Oh well. I'll try and get more updates later. I was more observant at a traffic light where I usually have issues. I noticed I went from 5G, to LTE, dropping bars, to complete zero service, then had to airplane mode on and off to get back connected. It's not any better in my area yet about 3 weeks later. I don't expect instant gratification, but I find it hard to believe other people in my area aren't complaining about it.

still happening. Verizon seems to think its the phone. I bought my phone at Best Buy, then immediately took it to apple to have them install a $40 screen protector. Now the phone is supposedly bunk? Not happy.

Should I take the phone to Best Buy , or Apple?

I wrote a post a page or two back, and Verizon told me it was my phone too. I ended up going to Apple last week and got a brand new phone and brand new SIM card... and it's still doing the same thing. I'm not saying our experiences will result in the same outcome, but I don't recall reading anyone who said exchanging their phone fixed the issue. I did read that a husband and wife each had new phones and one worked and the other wasn't working right, so I found that interesting.

Apple did tell me they can run a hardware test on the phone and tell you if everything is working on their end. If I were a betting man (which I'm not), I would bet the phone is fine and Verizon, in some form or capacity, is to blame. You can always take that route if time allows, but I think Apple will steer you back to Verizon, and Verizon will shift the blame back to Apple. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide thought.

Apple but I don’t think it’s the phones. IMO it’s definitely an apple software issue combined with dismantling of 3G and LTE/5G not being strong enough to compensate for lack of 3G

Very glad I found this thread. I've been having my iPhone 12 Pro Max constantly flap between LTE and 5G, with complete drops in service between each switch, since i set it up on Friday. I first noticed the problem when I left the house, got off of Wi-Fi, and got a popup from my phone asking to use my iPad as a hotspot right after I left Wi-fi range.

Seems to be best when setting it to LTE only. I'm on T-Mobile. Guess I'll wait for 11.3 before worrying about my actual device.

What a fiasco these iPhone 12 are so far. Having a stable and reliable voice connection is rather basic functionality for a phone!

Hope it can be fixed in software and that it's not hardware issues with the Qualcomm modems.

I had these connectivity issues with the XS Max phones. Terrible connectivity all the way around - cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth were all horrible. I returned 2 different phones in 6 weeks intervals.

This time around my 12 Pro has been fine. I’m up in rural NH with ATT and am using my old SIM card with no 5G as we really don’t have it here.

Is anyone that is not using 5G still having problems?
