I was basically problem free for the first weeks of ownership (Verizon 12Pro). Noticed for the first time yesterday that I dropped to ”no service” at home twice (toggling airplane mode fixed it). As this didn’t happen before, I am assuming Verizon is still fooling around with Tower programming. As mentioned before, there were lots of problems with iPhone XS losing connectivity in the first weeks after launch. This eventually got resolved via iOS / carrier firmware updates. I am sure this will happen with iPhone 12 / 5G as well. Teething pain of a new technology. Early adopters are always beta testers.

This must be a Verizon problem. I am on ATT with an iPhone 12 PRO and my connectivity is fantastic. 5G connects when available (it's in my area) and seamlessly switches to LTE while traveling. Never had a dropped call, in fact call quality and signal strength is much better than my 11 Pro. I have never had such crystal clear calls and reception ever in a cell phone.

FWIW, I was on the thread here early with the same issues with 12 Pro in Boston area on Verizon. The last week has been fine for me with no drops (knock on wood). I've been on 14.2 and now 14.3b1. Not sure whether it's iOS, modem firmware, carrier settings or Verizon towers that made it better (likely a combo), but I'll take it.

I think it’s definitely some kind of cellular is

I'm on AT&T and have been missing some (or more? who knows?) texts like everyone else has posted here. It's hard for me to know for sure if this was an issue on 14.1 or if it was introduced in 14.2 because again, it's hard to know what you're missing if you're missing it. I've also had some issues with missing voicemails, too. Didn't even notice that until a hard reboot. Then I get a notification about a voicemail I received 2 days prior. So am I missing calls now, too? Maybe I didn't notice the issues on 14.1 because my iPhone 12 Pro was new and shiny and whatever? I'm curious about 14.3b and any carrier settings or modem firmware updates that come along with it. I've been hoping to avoid the beta cycle over the holidays, but missing texts & calls are something I hope to avoid even more.

I really believe this to be a carrier issue. That could explain the randomness of it. If it was a software issue or hardware issue, I think more people would have this problem. If it was just a carrier issue, it'd possibly be a regional issue, which could explain the randomness?

I had these connectivity issues with the XS Max phones. Terrible connectivity all the way around - cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth were all horrible. I returned 2 different phones in 6 weeks intervals.

This time around my 12 Pro has been fine. I’m up in rural NH with ATT and am using my old SIM card with no 5G as we really don’t have it here.

Is anyone that is not using 5G still having problems?
I had the same issue with my XS Max and could not wait to get rid of it. My 11 Pro and 12 Pro work great on Verizon.

Anyone in the uk have issues? Im on EE. Inside my work I get 4 bars of 4g but it really struggles to get any internet. Put sim in my XS max and although slow speeds, it doesn’t stop.
12 pro max however will get the same speed every now and then but most of the time refuses to do anything.
tries resetting network and toggling aeroplane mode

T-Mobile user here, reporting back in. After that one time when I had to reboot, I have had not further issues with connectivity. I've driven around Orlando and it didn't drop once.

I'm on Verizon, in TN. We don't have any issues with service in east TN. Calls are clear, and rarely dropped even in remote areas where we used to be dropped all the time.

Hope your issues get resolved quickly!

What a fiasco these iPhone 12 are so far. Having a stable and reliable voice connection is rather basic functionality for a phone!
You would think!
The problem though is that every time these companies work out their problems and end up with a stable workable system, they get the notion up their butts that they have to upgrade their systems to "make things even better" and then end up with a host of bugs that they must try to fix all over again. This has been going on forever in the computer, cell phone industries. Frankly, consumer cell phone users need 5G like a hole in the head. Instead, I just wish they would stick with a system and perfect it so that it works flawlessly.

Hello and this isnt really about Network, it is about iPhone software or hardware issues.

I got 12 pro max factory unlocked. I’m in Saudi and running Dual sim with esim. Esim is working great, the sim in slot goes No service as soon as I start moving. My gf got same model 12 pro max and it is working fine on 4G, we are in same car sitting together where mine is stuck on 3G (without data) and sometimes goes No service without even trying to reconnect.

Really frustrating. I am missing really important calls without any notifications

I have a similar issue. Audio drops out on calls while I’m driving. Never happened on my iPhone 8 with iOS 14. iPhone 12 14.2 on AT&T has audio drop out of calls, but the call didn’t actually drop. And I’d be missing lots of SMS messages from group texts. Cellular was set to LTE only so no 5G being used.

I had upgraded from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 12 when the 12 first came out. I purchased my iPhone 12 from Apple SIM card free. I am an AT&T customer and when I switched over my Sim card from my 11 to the new iphone 12 I had blazing fast 5G speeds, amazing reception, all bars all the time. So that phone worked excellent! Then I just purchased the iPhone 12 Pro Max and gave the 12 to my partner. Again same scenario where I just swapped over my Sim card from the iPhone 12 to the 12 pro max. I’ve been using the 12 pro max for about four days now and have had terrible reception, no bars everything is slow to load - my 5G is not working correctly. I called AT&T today and reported the issue and they are sending me a new Sim card. I feel like there may be a connectivity glitch with iOS 14.2 -at least I am really hoping that it’s software and not hardware. I really love the phone but it’s absolutely terrible for reception compared to the iPhone 12 that I had. I’m really disappointed in the inconsistency and the terrible reception of the new pro max. I really hope there is a fix for this -I plan on contacting Apple if the next software update and the new Sim card do not resolve the issue. I wanted to share here to see if anyone else has experienced this with AT&T and the new iPhone pro max.

I returned my 12 pro and got a 12 pro max and everything is going swimmingly. Has there been widespread issues with the pro Max yet?

Again, I don’t think it’s a sim issue. I was on Verizon on esim with LTE only mode set.

I’m on ATT with a 12 Pro Max and today my phone went to NO Service twice. Toggling airplane mode didn’t fix it. Turning it off and on fixed it. Should I return to Apple for a replacement.

I’m in the exact same boat as everyone else. I’m with Sprint/T-Mobile.

Spent the last 3 days doing every reset/troubleshooting step you can possibly imagine from both Apple and T-Mobile. Got a new 5G T-Mobile SIM. Reset the phone in ways you probably didn’t know existed thanks to Apple senior support.

Nothing fixes this issue.

I’m seeing that replacing the phone hasn’t worked for people either...so really don’t want to hold my breath for that one.

Any suggestions? Should I return the phone and go back with my 10s Max? Has anyone experienced this issue with a previous phone launch? Should I try and hold out for some time and risk losing the return window and trade in window?

The way Apple and Carriers are treating this problem is pathetic. Apple senior support still is claiming to not know about any issue when I talk with them.
This is litreally me too rn. Should I return the pro max? Do you think it is hardware or software? I really like the camera in the pro max but I had so much better reception with the iPhone 12 versus the pro max. The pro max reception is terrible for me. I have AT&T.

Since updating to iOS 14.3 beta, a specific area where my call would drop every single time no longer drops. I also have data in areas my 12 Pro was previously lacking. It’s still not as good as my 11 Pro, but here’s hoping they refine 14.3 beta and a stable 14.3 launches with the same reception as previous iPhones.

Update: I continue to have zero issues in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. So promax users, it’s definitely a case of switching and the towers and the phone need to update. I have noticed that the signal strength is on par with my X. This is somewhat disappointing because this is a newer phone and I was hoping it would have better signal. Also, still no 5G anywhere in New England outside of UWB in the middle of Boston.

This here is a very interesting case. Two identical phones, next to each other. One works fine, the other is having issues.

Are they both on the same service provider? Is it possible to temporarily switch SIMs between the two phones to see if the issue follows the SIM, or stay with the phone?

Yes I turned off 5g and I’m in southern NH. With Verizon. Still having problems.

latest is now people that call me get 2 rings and then go to VM. My phone never rings.

My daughter has the 12 on Verizon and is also having problems with dropped calls and going to “no service” in areas where she usually has service.

Yes, first of all tried to talk with Apple support and they told me your sim card might have problem and doesn't support 5G. Got a new 5G sim replacement this morning and the issue is still there. Tried to switch sim cards in both 12 pro max, one is working fine on all the Networks other one with the new 5G sim still goes No service as soon as I start moving and go on the road.

Apple support told me to reset network settings which fixed the issue for few hours but then again same story 😕

The more I read about these connectivity issues, the more I am beginning to think it has more to do with bad implementation of 5G, 5G/4G switching, and lack of 3G with AT&T and especially Verizon. Seems that every now and then a Tmobile user will say there are problems here and there but the majority seem to be coming by far from AT&T and Verizon users. Fact is Verizon especially made a huge blunder in choosing UWB 5G to roll out 5G and they are now paying the price. I do believe though that in time, it will all be worked out.

I have the 12 Pro Max upgraded from the 11 Pro Max in Manhattan.

The download speeds in 5G Auto, 5G only, and 4G only are much slower especially, 5G Auto, then on the 11 Pro Max in exactly the same location(s).

I spoke with a Verizon 2nd tier network engineer who checked and said that there is an outstanding ticket on all of the 12 series phones. I have my own ticket number and they said they would let me know when the problem is fixed.

I am Tmo also and I think this is the result of smart 5G on the iPhone 12.

When I go to an area with great 5G it shows that I am on 5G. Most people don’t realize in a lot of areas LTE is faster. So the 12 will use the fastest network.

When I am at home it only shows LTE, but that’s because it’s the best network at that location.

So long story short it’s not a defect it’s meant to act like this.

upgrading to beta ios 14.3 did not help. Cellular communication continues to disappear ((
