I am in the Twin Cities (MN) and having the same issues since upgrading to the 12 Pro. I am having dropped calls, missed calls, missed texts, etc. Never had these type of issues on my old 7. LoL

I have gone to Apple and had the phone diagnosed - no issues. Was told to get a new SIM card

We to Verizon - replaced SIM card - still having issues

I have updated the IOS. Turned off 5G and Turned off Wi-Fi calling.

I am beyond frustrated!

Anyone have any other suggestions to try?

Hey everyone,

I just made an account to share my updates and experiences as well. I've been following this thread since it was first made, and I want to personally thank everyone for their posts. I live around North East Georgia, and I upgraded from an iPhone 6 to an iPhone 12 (regular, not Pro) when it first released. On my old phone, I never had any real issues except for the occasional phone drop... but I did notice more issues as time went on. I chalked it up to a 6 year old phone, and it was a big reason why I got a new phone. My wife refuses to replace her iPhone 6 because I'm having so many issues with mine right now.

When I got the new iPhone 12, I noticed several drops, people saying they couldn't hear me, call failures, people sounding like robots on the other side, etc. Pretty much EXACTLY what most of you have been reporting. Over the course of the last 3 weeks, here's my experience:
  • Apple blamed Verizon, Verizon blamed Apple -- same as everyone else said.
  • All diagnostics ran by Apple said my phone was fine. Verizon ran reports and said according to my call logs, there were no dropped calls (blatant lie). After calling them and going in store several times, Verizon said no one else had the issue and recommended me to exchange my phone. I went to Apple and got a brand new phone, had them set it up in the store... still experiencing the same issues. This led me to believe that it wasn't a phone issue or setup issue. I've had two new phones and two new SIM cards, all doing the same thing. I did every fix they recommended, but my LTE - 5G - bars are going crazy all the time.
  • I initially thought it was because I don't have 5G service (my area has it and supports it, but I didn't pay for the extra $30 a month for it). But after calling, Verizon told me they gave me 5G service. Sure enough on my bill it says I'm receiving 5G service at no extra charge. (Thanks?) It didn't help any.
  • My issue happened at the same places without fail: Around my job area (I work at a hospital, and this is VERY inconvenient and my coworkers and patients are getting annoyed), a few miles down the road on my way home, and around the off-ramp before I get home. The call quality isn't as good as my iPhone 6 (that's saying something). I never had dropped calls around the hospital where I work, and we don't have cell blockers up. There's no reason why I shouldn't have a great signal. It also doesn't matter if I'm moving or if I'm standing still.
  • Verizon put in a ticket to follow the issue more closely. I called them last week for an update and they said that there were 3 towers within the proximity of where I am at work to where I live at home. They believe the issue is that the 3 towers need adjusting with the 5G and LTE. What boggles my brain is, if this is true, why this wasn't done PRIOR to releasing the phones? My city boasts about being 5G ready, but then this happens. This makes me feel like we're all beta testing the new 5G. I called them just now to speak with them to get an update as I stopped receiving text message updates, but I've been waiting forever and it's proving more and more difficult to reach someone.
  • My coworker, who has an iPhone 11, is also experiencing the same issues with her calls dropping around where we work at the same area that I've been dropping calls. She also has Verizon as her carrier. This also leads me to believe this is a Verizon issue specifically with cell phone towers.
So tl;dr: Same issues as everyone, I got fed up and switched out my phone entirely for a new phone with a new SIM card to rule out Apple/phone being a dud, did all diagnostics and recommendations asked, updated all software and carrier settings as asked, and my phone continues to drop at the SAME places EVERY day without fail. I believe Verizon is to blame because it happens to my coworkers who are also with Verizon, and it's happened to two brand new iPhone 12s. I think we are being lab rats in this test for 5G, and the ones who complain to Verizon will get a minor compensation off their bill, and they get to perfect a system that they didn't properly test and push out for a minimal fee. That's just my two cents. I'll also keep posting as I get updates if that will help anyone else.

Thanks for the info. I too believe Verizon is to blame. It’s happening to me in San Antonio with the 12 pro and it’s happening to my father in New York and he uses a Samsung phone. So Apple is not to blame in this situation only Verizon.

I am also convinced this is a carrier issue related to switching between 5G / LTE towers and how the signal is transferring. It seems worse with Verizon but is not limited to them. I expect this to be worked out in the next weeks / months as it was worked out with the Xs issues. Have you tried it switch carriers, i.e. sign up for T-Mobile instead and see if that solves the issue?

The thought has crossed my mind about switching carriers... but I feel that's more of a last resort option. I want to give Verizon the opportunity to get this working as I have some loyalty there being with them over the past 8 years or so. I have a pretty good plan that's not very expensive, and the other alternatives would probably increase my bill causing my wife to say "I told you so" with upgrading my phone when I did (so pride is at stake!). I'm not a huge fan of AT&T, and I've never dealt with T-Mobile, so I'd prefer to stay with Verizon. I guess we'll see if they can't get their act together. I've been on hold for like an hour now to speak with someone at Verizon to try and get an update on my ticket from a couple of weeks ago.

I've also wondered if these cell companies like AT&T and Verizon share certain towers in my area, and knowing my luck I'd switch to another company and have the same issue because the problem lies with the specific tower. Then again, I'm not as smart with technology as most of you so maybe I'm completely off.

It will be fixed. It’s a relative new technology and the rollout was probably rushed to meet iPhone launch timings and celebrate the “nationwide” launch of 5G.

If it was purely related to 5G switching, wouldn't setting it to LTE only resolve the drop problem?

Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data and tap LTE.

More updates. I am still in Mexico. Have had ZERO issues. Still have the original 5G sim. I couldn’t get the new one up and running prior to coming here.
I’ve been on both 3G and LTE. Obviously roaming on Movistar. I am now truly convinced this is a Verizon network problem with switching between towers and them turning off 3G.

Here’s an update. I got a text saying the issue was resolved yesterday. Today I got one saying they’re working on it again.

I live on the South Shore of MA. On Verizon with iPhone 12. I've had the same issues as everyone else on the thread. Got a new sim card a few days ago, no difference.

I did update to the latest iOS 14.3 developer beta last night. So far my connection has been great. I have not had a signal drop yet. Usually I'd have 3-4 by now. Posting here in case it helps anyone out.

T-Mobile customer here with the new iPhone 12 Pro Max. Took it out for a spin and drove towards an area with 5G. Saw 5G on my Apple Car Play. Yay! Called the little woman and it immediately went to 4G. As soon as I hung up, it went back to 5G. As I drove away, it went to 4G, and then LTE with no bars, even in an area where I know there are plenty of bars. I rebooted after I got home and it's fine now, but I'm just hanging out in my home.

Just downloaded iOS 14.3 beta 1 as well. Going on a 100 mile drive tomorrow to the middle of nowhere. Also going to Palm Springs Monday where I so far haven’t had connection on my 12 Pro but did on my 11 Pro. Will report back here!

I activated my 12 Pro Max a couple of hours ago... before activating, the icon said 5G. Now it says LTE. I have "Play More Unlimited" and my plan says I have 5G. I have the 5G in cellular settings to always be on.

My speeds are just as terrible as they were before. Oh well, glad I stay home all the time on wifi. Not impressed. Not sure if I need to call Verizon to "activate" the 5G? It's a Verizon ordered phone (from Apple.com) with the Verizon SIM in it already.

I activated both hubby and I Pro Max and so far everything is going smoothly since activating phones around after 8pm. Both phones showing LTE on Verizon. He going to work today so will report back.

Verizon sent me another 5G SIM card and for 36 hours I didn’t have any issues. Just a few minutes ago experienced another signal loss with no reconnecting until toggling

Back on the cape from Mexico. Have yet to drop anything. Been on LTE the whole time. Must have been something that had to be done in the background? I’m on iOS 14.2

I did another drive around today to the T-Mobile 5G area just north of Walt Disney World. Turned around and drove home and didn't lose connectivity. Didn't call the little woman this time, though, but I didn't lose service as it transitioned to LTE.

This all depends on how far one is from nearest cell tower and in the US this can be quite far but in cities like Hong Kong this is usually not an issue. Asian cities are better at this usually. In the US they are spread out further apart

Road trips on betas can be tough! Good luck!

I picked up an iPhone 12 Pro Max yesterday at an Apple Store. After transferring data from my old iPhone XS Max to the new phone I had no service. After calling AT&T FirstNet they were able to get my phone and SMS working, by inputting the IMEI into their system. I was asked to test to see if I had data by opening Safari, which was a no.

The area I live always has 4 bars and always shows AT&T LTE. The majority of yesterday the phone would only show having 4G service. Today it shows LTEI After spending about two hours on the phone with AT&T FirstNet, and two, two hour chat sessions with Apple, I still have no cellular data on the new iPhone 12 Pro Max. Today, I took the new SIM card that came with the iPhone 12 and put it into my old phone. The old phone immediately started working with the new SIM, full data and quick loading of webpages.

I've tried everything imaginable. Apple ran a diagnostics test and said there was no hardware issue. They had me restore the new phone as factory new without any of my apps or data, and it still didn't work. Apple doesn't have any answers at this point, and neither does AT&T FirstNet.

Although I haven't read all the posts here, I haven't seen anyone else claiming their phone has zero cellular data connectivity. Now I have to wait until November 18, to take the phone to an Apple Store.
