I'm from Ukraine. A similar problem. During the day, LTE can be disconnected up to 5-6 times. So it can be argued that this is an iphone problem !!!

A little time on google revealed 100s of similar complaints about Samsung S20. The problems sound very similar to the ones here. Here is one interesting sample:
"Same issue here in the UK with Vodafone. I've only really noticed since the last update. Both calls & data affected, I definitely have service & the phone shows I have service but won't do anything, when I put on flight mode & then take off flight mode it works.. my other half has the same phone with the latest update but is with EE & it doesn't have the problem. Tried resetting network settings, didn't help. I love the phone other than this but it's basically unusuable!!"

Wonder if they use Qualcomm modems? Hard to distinguish hardware vs software since activation of the 5G, combination of both? I’m just guessing y’all. Hell it really don’t matter which it is but somethings got to be done.

Y’all guess what modem is used in the galaxy S20? Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G Modem (SDX55) for US

and Exynos 990 for Europe and Asia...

No, I don’t think any of us really have a clue but it’s kinda a process of elimination type deal... my gut tells me if we bother them both long enough with enough complaints one or the other will figure it out.

Verizon is absolutely stating it’s not them, SIM cards, new phone, trouble tickets, etc.. Then there’s apple who doesn’t mind issuing statements on “tinted” screen issues or excessive battery drain bugs... but it’s crickets on this? Also, why aren’t the android fan base having issues with 5G? If they are is there any links?

I have a theory, I live in a marginal reception area where 3G has been king for years, where does everyone else have the issues? Is your issue happening at home or on the move? How far are we from a tower? Has your phone always had solid LTE signal? How often did your previous phone default to 3G?

Has our respective carriers dismantled the 3G in our areas yet? If that’s the case the LTE signals probably aren’t strong enough. These phones are not 3G compatible from what Verizon told me. If that’s the case that’s the explanation for my issue... once it looses LTE there is nothing to grab and it stops looking. The Apple part of the issue would be why does it stop looking for signal?
You may be on to something! Hubby and I have 12 pro max's and we are not having any issues at all. Phones set to 4G only. So back to why I asked, why are some having issues and some are not?

From things I've seen over the years, usually silence means they have an issue they don't want the public to know about. Personally I think Verizon made 2 pretty big blunders in the recent past, the first being shutting down a lot of its 3g network, the second, deploying a 5g network that only travels a few hundred feet from each tower. I have no way of knowing this for sure, but it just seems that we have phones that are trying to connect to 5g and trying to change to 4g way too often. There seems to be a problem in the switching going on with the iphones. Is it just a coincidence that Verizon decided to deploy Sub-6 5G the same time that Apple released the new iphones?
Based on that, I honestly think that it's not a Verizon nor Apple issue in itself but a combination of the two.

For what it's worth, I have had none of these issues using Android phones with T-Mobile. None!

Some aren't so fortunate. From the Samsung community forum:

"T-Mobile has been trying for 2 days to get my new Ultra Note 20 to work. I couldn't make a small emergency call not even 24 hours after buying the phone. I suddenly lose any ability to recieve or place calls/texts. They have changed me to 4G only I feel I've paid for a phone that doesn't work. I have bought Samsung for years and very disappointed. They have offered me a new Note 20 but also telling me the problem is with Samsung??? Frustrated."

Verizon closed the second service ticket for the replacement phone that is also having issues saying “your location has poor signal” which a.) isn’t true b.) goes against what their own website says for my address c.) doesn’t matter because other devices don’t have this issue including the watch on my wrist d.) Verizon said was not the issue in the last service ticket and e.) the issue happens literally anywhere I go, including right next to a cell tower with 5 bars. I just contacted them and they’ve reopened the ticket.

My biggest question is why are calls dropping even when I have WiFi calling on and gigabit WiFi connected that works perfectly. Surely it should be switching to the WiFi calling if the signal is in any way related to the issue.

Update to my last post:
Verizon support just stated to me it is indeed an issue with the device. They have seen it widespread with the 12 pro and 12 pro max. Replacing the SIM card is fixing the problems some times but not others, and it could possibly be the antenna.

Seems Verizon is trying to cover their a** now until they/apple can fix the problem. So what’s their fix? continue swapping already returned phones that pass their “refurbishing” test out until we get one that works? There is no way they are replacing these phones with brand never opened new devices...

Basically the plan you just said is what they are doing. Replace the sim, if that doesn’t work, replace the phone, then replace the sim, then the phone again, and so on. With the hope you eventually end up with both a non-defective phone and a non-defective sim. Absolutely insane. I will say though, the replacement phone I received was not packaged as new, but included the sticker that would typically come on the packaging and appeared to be brand new based on the cleanliness and condition compared to replacements I’ve received in the past for other phones.

That’s just wonderful news... I’m reading over on apple forum this is a widespread multi country thing.

Apple is gonna loose thousands of loyal customers if they don’t acknowledge this and get it worked out.

Can you link that? I’ve been trying to search their forums for similar threads but their search filter is crap. Main reason I’ve been sticking to this site.
Apple is really going to suffer if they don’t acknowledge the issue. As someone who had the Note 7 during the initial replacement and then full recall, I will never return to the Note. So I can’t imagine the impact apple will see if they continue to mishandle this.

Sure, I don't doubt there are defective phones out there, but judging from the amount and type of complaints from Verizon customers compared to others, especially T-Mobile customers, there really seems to be something terribly wrong with the way their network is interacting with these phones.

I have the iPhone 12 on Verizon. Since purchasing it I’ve had constant issues with connection randomly stippling. Once I turned off 5g and switched to LTE only, all my connection issues to data went away.

14.2.1 update is out. Downloaded while taking to Apple... ran diagnostics and found no issues.

to chime in again. Everything seemed to be back to normal. No drops. When I came back from Mexico and was on 14.2. All the spots I was losing service and had to toggle airplane mode, were totally FINE. Then, I updated automatically to 14.2.1 and we are back to no service in those drop spots. THUS, I really don’t think it’s the hardware. It’s gotta be the software and Verizon’s 5G network.
