Same problem here just west of Orlando, FL. Phone drops to zero service and even WiFi calling does not work, which surprised me. Have to either restart to go into Airplane mode for a minute or two to fix it. I've never experienced an issue like this. It's pretty bad. Avoiding calling Verizon as they will likely have me do some hours-long runaround and then basically tell me nothing.

Sorry in advance for the long think piece. Here's my experience with Verizon as a new customer that ordered a iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I'm having similar issues in Jacksonville, Fl. I just switched to Verizon on the Pro Max launch day and was shocked when I did a speed test and it came back with 3 MBPS on 4 bars of 5G. Me understanding that 5G speeds without ultra Wideband is somewhat of a gimmick I decided to toggle the phone to LTE only and actually got slower speeds than the 3 MBPS. I drove around my neighborhood and there was no change. Drove around my side of town and got decent speeds 15-20 MBPS within a 3 minute drive of my house. Called Verizon and spoke to a rep (I'll save the story for how bad the customer service is for another time) he said that he could put through an order for me to get a free signal booster....call dropped on my T-Mobile phone that I switched from before he was able to put through the order. Before the call was disconnected we did every troubleshooting step imaginable. I not only did a reset on my network settings but the entire phone numerous times. I Called back and waited for an hour but Tech 2 wasn't answering so I decided to go to the Verizon store and get a SIM card switch because I thought it may have just been faulty.

As I pull into the Verizon parking lot my speeds were booming over 50 MBPS the store rep said to disregard it because the store has signal boosters and its not a true reflection. He was very much so correct. He was hesitant to swap out my SIM card but I insisted because I need any solution possible to fix this train wreck. Before I leave the store he tries to sell me the same signal booster that I was offered for free for $300 😒. As I leave the store I have the same issue so I called back into tech support and now I'm being told that a ticket has to be put in before I can be approved for a signal booster. He puts in the ticket and states that by 11/17 I should get an answer. On 11/18 I called tech support again just to realize that the ticket was never put in and I'm having to start all over again. The new Tech 2 rep was great and thorough but said somethings that made me raise my eyebrow. According to him my phone is fine and doesn't need to be replaced but he mentioned that it looked as though I was being throttled like I went over 50 GB and was in a congested area. With me having the phone for less than a week and barely able to load a YouTube video that's impossible. He remote accessed my phone and literally watched as I did a speed test and was floored at the 1 MBPS speed on both 5G and LTE. He placed another ticket and stated that they'll reach out within 48-72 hours with a resolution hopefully. I grew anxious last night and did a chat with Verizon support through Twitter and was told that my house was literally in the middle of two towers and that I should have any issues according to the coverage map. The lies from the coverage map is what made me leave T-Mobile....tbh even with all that's going on I still wouldn't go back to them right now.

Today 11/19 I noticed that in my settings it looked like I had a digital sim activated which is what I thought would be causing issues. Called tech support again and was told that everything is normal in their system. The tech checked on my ticket advised me that it was still open which was a good thing but also saw that there was a memo placed out on all iPhone 12 models. She stated that from what she could see it was related to data access and 5G availability and that they made Apple aware of the issues going on. She even cracked a joke that Verizon's infrastructure wasn't ready for all of the 5G phones being added to its network. At this point it's a waiting game....Call quality for me has been amazing in comparison to T-Mobile and the dropped calls that Ive had since April. Attached are low speed which is clocked at my house in comparison to the highest speed that I've seen on LTE less than 15 minutes away from me.

Verizon’s trouble ticket came back with no issues found... of course not ;)
They called me about my ticket and the upper level tech support agent said it was an issue with the phone not communicating to the other line that it’s still on the call and that it was a hardware issue. Got the replacement phone activated last night and same exact issue.

Oh the games they play

I too think it's a hardware issue. Just the fact that Apple refuses to acknowledge it points toward hardware issue; it would be cost prohibitive for them (even for a giant like Apple) to replace the modems in thousands of phones, hence they deny it and try to deflect the problem to the carrier.

My iphone 12 Pro works great on Verizon. Seems to me if it was a hardware problem all phones would be affected unless it’s a batch defect. It might be a regional thing as most of the complaints appear to come from the south and northeast. I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Welp everything has been wonderful until this am. I am in my home office trying to make outbound calls and nada. VZW service indicator has gone ... I toggled airplane mode off then on sill nothing. outage lasted maybe 5 mins. Now it is fine again. Maddening

Iphone 12 pro with Verizon. Having the same issue, drops connection randomly and then will say "iphone is not activated, contact carrier if this continues" toggle airplane mode and service comes back and it will say "iphone is activated". I go through this routine at home around 15 times a day. I spoke with apple this morning and they are blaming it on Verizon. The rep literally stated "Apple is at no fault for the issue". Even after telling him my wifes iphone 11 pro will have full LTE while mine will have no service.

No one is taking responsibility for it or even acknowledging its an issue.

I’m down in a 5G area this afternoon and the speeds are unreal. No issues with signal. It has to be a software issue on either end.

Keep harassing them, if you don’t they will push it to the wayside.

My Apple Watch has amazing cellular reception everywhere I’ve been despite the horrible iPhone problem, and Verizon took special interest in that when I told them. Waiting to hear back about the work ticket for the replacement 12 pro that has the same issue. They said if they determine it’s a hardware defect like the last it will be passed to Apple as an official investigation. Probably lies but at least it’s something.

I'm in Tacoma, WA. I just got off a long troubleshooting call with support for my 12 pro max. Troubleshooting was unsuccessful so they will be calling be back on Monday for next steps. Wifi calling is actually working for me, but in the past I've avoided that because of battery drain. I'm going between 1 bar of 5G or 1 bar of LTE or No Service. Most calls drop within a minute or so, including all the test calls with support. I switched from ATT which did not have a problem in the same house.

And we are back to having issues. My iPhone 12Pro updated to 14.2.1 last night and now I’m dropping calls and losing service again. I am infuriated! I had no issues last weekend when I drove from New Hampshire Massachusetts into the Cape. Now I keep losing service and I am just really pissed off at this point..

So even the replacement phones are acting up. That’s code for software and need to upgrade the towers. No way apple made this many faulty handsets. Keep callin guys, eventually they will get it figured out but we can’t give up

Wondering if anyone is having issues with their connection dropping on Verizon with their iPhone 12? Granted I’ve only had my 12 Pro for a day but I’ve noticed that the signal will completely cut out and go to no signal. If I toggle airplane mode it fixes it. I’m figuring it could be an issue with the phone trying switch to 5g. Messing around with the 5g settings didn’t seem to do much. No idea if this is software, hardware or carrier related.

Also see:
^^Not my post but explains the issue exactly.
I got an iPhone 12 mini directly from Apple on Tuesday and there is NO connection whatsoever except for WiFi. They said it’s a hardware issue and made me pay again for a replacement until it arrives and they’re having trouble sending it out as of today which is Saturday.

I’m gonna aggravate apple until they push out a fixed software update, recall phones or block me

You seem to be pretty sure it's not a service provider issue?
No, I don’t think any of us really have a clue but it’s kinda a process of elimination type deal... my gut tells me if we bother them both long enough with enough complaints one or the other will figure it out.

Verizon is absolutely stating it’s not them, SIM cards, new phone, trouble tickets, etc.. Then there’s apple who doesn’t mind issuing statements on “tinted” screen issues or excessive battery drain bugs... but it’s crickets on this? Also, why aren’t the android fan base having issues with 5G? If they are is there any links?

I have a theory, I live in a marginal reception area where 3G has been king for years, where does everyone else have the issues? Is your issue happening at home or on the move? How far are we from a tower? Has your phone always had solid LTE signal? How often did your previous phone default to 3G?

Has our respective carriers dismantled the 3G in our areas yet? If that’s the case the LTE signals probably aren’t strong enough. These phones are not 3G compatible from what Verizon told me. If that’s the case that’s the explanation for my issue... once it looses LTE there is nothing to grab and it stops looking. The Apple part of the issue would be why does it stop looking for signal?
