Wondering if anyone is having issues with their connection dropping on Verizon with their iPhone 12? Granted I’ve only had my 12 Pro for a day but I’ve noticed that the signal will completely cut out and go to no signal. If I toggle airplane mode it fixes it. I’m figuring it could be an issue with the phone trying switch to 5g. Messing around with the 5g settings didn’t seem to do much. No idea if this is software, hardware or carrier related.

^^Not my post but explains the issue exactly.
Have Verizon and having the same issue, just add me to the pile.

anyone else having this issue? I have an iphone 12 pro on verizon and i am not getting all my regular text messages. It seems like if im in a group chat with an android user and iphone user i am missing blocks of texts at a time. They dont come in late i just dont get them at all. imessages are fine but text messages are the issue. I already opened up a ticket with verizon and they have escalated it to the tier 2 support the network team but i havent heard back yet. I already reset network settings and the tech last night re-provisioned my account on the network but that didnt seem to fix it either.
Having this exact issue as well.

Have TMo and text/sms issue as well. There is a separate thread about this too. Can't be a carrier issue - likely some nuance associated with 5G that Apple screwed up. As FYI, I have another 5G Samsung phone with TMo and this has never happened. All routes point to Apple.

Had this maddening issue the past 2 days. I couldn't even call 800#s. Spent an hour on with Verizon resetting this and that. I went back to my X and old sim and no issues whatsoever. Not sure what to do at this point?

I have Verizon and live in Ma.

I noticed no signal loss today while switching towers in high signal areas, but soon as I leave, boom has happens three times. Wondering if the fix isn’t for the carriers to turn up the LTE where they are dismantling the 3G that many of us depend on to get service. Doesn’t explain the LTE and 5G loss some are talking about but eventually this has to be rectified by Apple or the carriers.

Does the 12 get voice echo on some calls like the 11 pro?

I have noticed a tad bit of echo on speaker phone while talking on recorded lime to customer service, but to everyone else no. If not for the poor reception this would be an amazing phone IMO

what about on earpiece? suppose too have better reception with Qualcomm

Having read all the issues some are having with Verizon, AT&T and their iPhone 12’s makes me glad I have Sprint/T-Mobile. I really think this is a Verizon carrier issue. I have had zero issues with my 12 Pro. It will connect to 5G if available or go back to LTE. At my home I have very low cellular service and this is true for all carriers as I am in a very rural area. My 12 Pro has not dropped a call or failed to make a call even with one bar. I can not use WiFi calling as I have satelite internet which does not allow that so it’s cellular or nothing for calls.

I did have Apple send a new sim in case I needed it for 5G access so I am not using the one from my Xs max.

Talked to Verizon again. They are sending me a new SIM. I honestly don’t think it’s the SIM. it appears to be an issue with the phone “switching” from tower to tower. All I know is as a healthcare provider on call, I’m super pissed. It’s been a week and it’s not in any websites nor did anyone at Apple or Verizon know about it when I called.

On T-Mobile, with a 12 Pro and regular 12. The 12 Pro is not having any problems but the 12 is. When making calls, the phone attempts to connect, and when then other line answers, the 12 goes to the ‘call failed’ screen. This happens when calling either a cell or landline. We’re headed to T-Mobile tomorrow to have this resolved, one way or another as the phone is useless if it can’t make phone calls.

First day with 12 Pro on Verizon, bought SIM free, had Verizon send me a “5G” SIM to activate phone with. I have low signal at the house and use therefore wifi calling. So far no signal drop. I take it out tomorrow and will keep testing.
I am in 43.0 Verizon firmware and iOS 14.1

I have noticed a much better reception and speed on my 12 on Visible (Verizon network) compared to the iPhone XS that I sold.

I said on page 2 I had no issues, but I spoke too soon.

I’ve been having minor issues that I chalked up to chance, but today I was out and about with my friend at some usual shops we go to. We both upgraded to the 12 Pro last Friday. Hers is from Verizon, mine is unlocked from Apple but on Verizon network.

We kept losing reception with 0 bars, no service, in multiple spots. Reception was lost at the same time between both phones. My 11 Pro and her X on Verizon never had these issues in these areas.

Praying for an iOS or carrier update to fix this soon.

Has anyone seen improvements the last 24 hours?
Nothing yet. Hopefully the current modem 1.00.03-5 (Qualcomm) will be updated, as well as the mostly needed "Carrier Settings Update". Verizon's current version is 43.0

EDIT: Verizon has redirected callers to Apple Customer Service.

3 days ago I contacted Apple, and spoke with a senior advisor who uploaded cell log via the Apple Support App. He said he's forwarding to Engineering to address the concern.

Received my iPhone 12 Pro on Friday. Activated it on Saturday. Sunday I drove for 10 mns and when I arrive to my destination I saw no reception bars and No Service. And in the middle of the screen in a grey box: Your iPhone is not Activated.

The only way to get the connection back was to toggle Airplane mode to ON then OFF.

The iPhone had the cellular mode to 5G Auto. I switched it to LTE to test. And it was the same.

So I resetted the network settings: same issue and I resetted the iPhone as a new iPhone and reinstalled everything from scratch (not from a saved backup): same issue.

I drove my car and found the exact location where the phone lost the network. If the phone lost the network it means I reach the end of the coverage area from a certain antenna. It looks like something happened with the phone when I reach a zone covered by a new antenna.

I called my operator and they told me that everything is good on their end and I have the right SIM card for a 5G device.

I called the Apple Tech Support and they remotely installed on my phone two profiles:
  • Baseband and Telephony Logging
  • CFNetwork Diagnostics

I was able to replicate the issue after talking to the Apple Tech and I was able to submit the report.

The Apple Tech called me back after someone at Apple looked at the logs. They found out that one App called VPN Unlimited was causing the issue. I was a bit surprised because I installed the app but I did not activated the app with my login and password.

I drove by the area where I was experiencing the issue several times and I was not able to replicate the issue after removing the VPN unlimited app. One friend who owns an iPhone 12 was with me when I experienced the issue the first time. He did not have the issue on his phone and he did not have the VPN unlimited app installed.

So I have no clue if a VPN app can cause this mess? The next question will be: for everyone experiencing the issue, do you have a VPN app on your iPhone?

That VPN might be a separate issue entirely, as it doesn’t explain how so many devices have been reset, SIM swapped, restored as new device, etc.

I’m on T Mobile and wanted this 12 mainly for the return of the Qualcomm modem. My 11 Pro Max is is great except for the signal at times, it holds onto an LTE signal when it should drop to a 4G, so I have to manual toggle that in Cellular settings. You’d think the phone would automatically do it but these stupid things still can’t automatically and efficiently switch signals well.

So even if there’s a fix for the crappy signal on the 12, will they ALSO address the poor signal switching? Probably not.

Nope. I have the issue and no VPN app.

So far ok today. No drops or loss of service. Looked at settings. Nothing has changed.

I've had no drops or had to toggle airplane mode for at least 48 hrs. Everything is going well so far, curious if Verizon has updated things on their end/working with Apple.

The modem firmware and carrier version seem like they are being updated in 14.2 according to one of the users reporting in on a past post in this thread, that could also have some effect.

Going to see how things go over the weekend, I'll be through some areas with poor service / where I had the issue occur frequently & will report back.
