I've had no drops or had to toggle airplane mode for at least 48 hrs. Everything is going well so far, curious if Verizon has updated things on their end/working with Apple.

The modem firmware and carrier version seem like they are being updated in 14.2 according to one of the users reporting in on a past post in this thread, that could also have some effect.

Going to see how things go over the weekend, I'll be through some areas with poor service / where I had the issue occur frequently & will report back.
Awesome thanks! With this snow and cold. Im going to be staying put. I won’t be in area that drop...

This is like the XS Max all over again.

Right now, my husband’s phone says it’s on 5G, but his data speeds are slower than my 11 Pro Max on LTE. So we had a wonderful 3 1/2 hour conversation with Verizon and Apple, because one Verizon rep sent us over to Apple Customer Care unknowingly to us, lol! After Apple told us that all of the issues were with Verizon and sent us back to Verizon, we learned about the nationwide issue with Verizon’s network. The tech support rep opened a ticket with no ETA for when it would be fixed, but updates will provided via text.

Since he’s paying for 5G service he can’t access, he’s looking for some credit, but of course that remains to be seen.

As for the in-home WiFi, his phone did not stay on the 2.4GHz band, but because I block new devices from connecting, I thought the issue was my router settings. I allowed his device and put him on the 5GHz band and he’s been fine ever since.

i just left verizon. They swapped out my sim which I don’t think it is. Haven’t dropped service yet. I’ll keep you posted!

Also experiencing this issue... I’m on latest 14.2 Public Beta, and that includes modem firmware 1.14.04 and Verizon Carrier software 44.0. Installing the 14.2 GM right now to see if software versions change from above and it resolves issue. If not we may need to wait until 14.2.1...

Tonight it’s worse than before. Bad enough where I haven’t connected in an hour and I’m going back to my SE 2020 and returning my 12 pro tomorrow.

14.2 GM has modem version 1.14.05 and Verizon Carrier version 44.0.1. Let’s hope the updates help.

I live in Birmingham AL I'm on Verizon , I got my iPhone 12 on Wednesday this week. So far I've not lost signal completely. I have dropped a call here and there but I'm driving all day every day so I travel through known poor signal areas. So far it is better than the iPhone 11p I have. It's definitely better in marginal areas . At my GF house I'm able to hold 2 bars of usable LTE with not one drop and reconnect all night. I've Never with any Verizon phone in the last 10 years had this good of luck at her house. It's so bad she swapped to att a year or 2 ago.

I believe the modem is a for sure upgrade.

I think the issues are tower related.

Also I keep mine locked to LTE and standard data. If that even matters.

Hopefully they will get it straightened out.

Also they set mine up with a new SIM card and did the thing where they sit both phones next to each other and transfer all data from the 11p to the 12. If that matters.

I'm on the old original unlimited plan with 22gb unlimited with no mandatory throttle after 22 gb just may be throttled in times of peak tower congestion. So I get access to the 5g nation wide. But no mm wave . They can keep the mm wave.

As I stated in a previous post my carrier is Sprint - who has been acquired by T-Mobile. On my iPhone 12 Pro it shows Sprint as my carrier so integration of both networks is ongoing. I bought my iPhone from Apple with a new Sprint SIM chip.

The iOS version is 41.1, Modem firmware - 1.00.03-5. Sprint carrier version 43.0.1.

When 5G became available Sprint/T-Mobile gave it out to all customers with no additional cost. I have an unlimited everything plan. This has been the best iPhone I have ever had. The ability to make and hold a call even with 1 bar is excellent. I have good coverage at my home which over the years has been sketchy. The phone moves from 5G to LTE to 3G with no issues in my very rural area in Ohio. My Xs Max was a nice phone but it did not have the reception this phone has. I do believe it is the Qualcomm modem.

It seems phones with plans on Verizon and AT&T are the ones having issues. I do believe it is a compatibility issue between the modem and the towers which means either Apple needs to fix the Qualcomm firmware or the carriers need to update their towers. I lean toward the carrier since I am having no issues with mine.

So Apple, Verizon and AT&T need to get their collective selves together and fix it. Not having service is totally unacceptable as people/businesses depend on their phones. Which is stating the obvious - but what is really a kick in the backside is the carriers will not have any issues sending you your bill. If it were me, I would be addressing that with my carrier.

Perhaps I jinxed myself calling it a GM because the issue just recurred. Had to toggle to airplane mode to get service back. Bummer...
I’m starting to debate retuning this phone and getting an 11Pro instead. I can’t do my job when my phone keeps losing service as I drive and 14 days will be up next Friday

Having a reliable connection is a rather basic functionality of a phone...that's what a phone is supposed to do.

Both Apple and Verizon seem to not care too much about this issue. A simple statement that they are aware of it and is working on it would put many of us at ease. Until then, my advise is, return the phone, even if that means using an older phone for a while. Getting a boatload of phone returns, THAT will get their attention.

Going on 72 hours with no drops...

Just some food for thought but is it possible that they are still updating towers to be compatible with the modem firmware on the phone? And maybe it hasn’t propagated everywhere yet...

Or is it really just chance that I’ve had no issues for 3 days so far?

Fwiw, many users have reported that Verizon and/or Apple are aware of the issue and it’s somewhere in their system.

But to echo the comment above, yes they should at least publicly acknowledge the issue. We are all in the dark about it... Another reason why I wish MacRumors or some high traffic publication would write about this.

I just took a nice long drive and didn’t lose service once. So the 14.2 RC is an improvement. I’m guessing they are still tuning the chipset now that more telemetry is coming in from the general public on the new phones, especially those running betas. I also agree with some of the other posters that Verizon and AT&T may be making network changes in the background to roll out low and mid band 5G and that the combination is causing issues on this new Qualcomm 5G modem.

While not 100% eliminated with the latest update, if you are on 14.1 and having trouble, giving 14.2 RC a try would be a good idea. No stability issues either with other aspects of the OS...

That’s good to hear. I would prefer the issue be completely resolved as it’s a huge problem when driving and you lose service without knowing it (and toggling airplane mode is technically illegal in many states while driving). I’ve been dealing with VZ and Apple tech support for days trying to resolve this and I’m just praying that 14.2 fixes it. I live in a state without any 5G coverage of any kind, too.

Agreed. The fact that both sides are saying it’s the others fault and can’t figure it out is infuriating. And most of the CS you talk to say they have never heard it.
I told them I’m in healthcare and this is completely unacceptable. Dropped a few times today already. Hoping maybe the new SIM will change it.

Crap service, Halloween, full moon in 2020. Im expecting my iphone to have 4 bars on 5Guw out here in podunk late this afternoon and never give up the reigns again

Not sure what "normal" is but it seems that Verizon and AT&T subscribers have huge issues. As I posted before, I have Sprint and I have absolutely no issues. Got my 12Pro on 10/25 and so far flawless performance. Not only that I have much better connection coverage and speed. Loving this phone. I just wish for those having issues that it would get fixed because as I said this has proven to be better than my Xs Max - and I really liked that iPhone.
