LOVE LOVE LOVE my 12 Pro Max in Pacific Blue 😍!!!

I thought the Xs Max was my favorite iPhone of all time... This phone just 🤬 all over the Xs Max in EVERY way 😂.

Blue and Orange are my favorite colors, so naturally I had to get the Pacific Blue and the Kumquat silicone case from Apple... This is the best phone case combination I've had in iPhone history and I've had them all except 5, 6s, 8, X, & 11 Pro. I might be good to go for 3 or 4 years with this combo, but at least 2 for sure 😂.

The CAMERA'S ARE INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE... Like FRFR, especially coming from Xs Max.

Here's a few pics of my setup:

Same bad performance in the dark? Bro are you tripping? The pro has taken literally the best photos I’ve ever seen in the dark. Like stuff not done before. We have different phones or something.
I always assume people who claim the 12 Pro’s camera is “only slightly better” than the X’s camera must be legally blind and having their photos described to them by a loved one.🤣

At first glance, you’d look at this photo and think, “I dunno, that’s pretty noisy,” but that would be ignoring the fact that it was taken in near total darkness with the only light source being a 40W bulb FROM AN ADJACENT ROOM:

Night Mode on these phones is patently futuristic to anyone who’s ever dabbled in ”real” photography. There’s no way in hell such a tiny sensor should be able to achieve results like these.

iPhone 12 Pro camera is just a little bit better than my old iPhone XR. Maybe less camera blur, but almost same amount of noise on night pictures. The only thing which is really better are the contrast and color reproduction. So it's still not ready for the monitor or even photo frame. It looks better only on the iPhone screen.

My 10 year old cheapest camera takes much better pictures. I expected better performance from Apple especially for such a price.

It's no surprise, the sensor is too small and probably Apple is cutting costs and not using state-of-the-art hardware anymore.

Care for a friendly shoot-out? Let’s see a handheld night photo from your “10 year old cheapest camera” (with EXIF data if you don’t mind) and I’ll post my best handheld 12 Pro Night Mode photo, and then the people can decide which one looks better. How’s that sound? ;)

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. The quality of camera is not about comparing best pictures from the all the shoots from all times. It's about quality on average. Where it takes me 2 tries to get the best picture on my cheap camera, it would take you 500 tries to get in the same quality range.
Also if you want to really compare quality we need to do it in the same lighting conditions with the same scene, movements etc. So what you propose is unfortunately pointless.

And I totally trust you, if you take 10000 images from the iPhone (probably even any model) you will definitely find one that will look great, even comparable to the high end cameras. That's what Apple does with their marketing. But it doesn't say anything about average camera quality in real life. It's just luck of hand picking.

To really compare our cameras we should take 2 photoshoots done on the same spot at the same time, with the same objects and compare not just one, but also a number of pictures that look great. Only that will be the real camera comparison. Anything else is a game of hand picking.

Right, so by your own admission, your assertion that your “10 year old cheapest camera” takes better photos than the iPhone 12 is, at best totally unproven, and at worst total hubris. I’m glad we can agree on that point. ;)

All joking aside, no one here is claiming that the 12 Pro is a DSLR killer. And if you think night shots on your XR are only slightly worse than Night Mode shots from the 11 or 12 series, I suggest you actually try shooting a couple of night shots with one of the newer phones and, with all due respect, you’ll see how wrong you are. The A13/A14 processors can do things with dynamic range than literally no 10 year old camera, film or digital, was capable of. That’s a fact. It doesn’t inherently make an iPhone a “better camera” than any other, nor does it suggest that iPhone 12 images are objectively more accurate than those from a dedicated camera, but the fact remains that there are technological advances here that certainly warrant a bit more than your casual dismissal.

As a pocket computer that also takes photographs, the iPhone 12 is actually pretty damned amazing.

You cannot prove anything either ;-) Also as I said if we start comparing our best shots it won't prove anything any better.

Yes I did try comparing iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone XR cameras many times. While iPhone 12 Pro image is indeed better it's being sooo noisy I cannot watch it anywhere except my iPhone without my eyes to start bleeding.

If you want me to be more precise, I was just complaining mostly about noise. But I also said it. Dynamic range is indeed better (as again I said it earlier) but it doesn't make it more watchable on anything except small screen of the iPhone. On the contrary my cheap old camera takes pictures with less noise but better dynamic range (because sensor is bigger and better).

Started using my 12 pro now and am struggling to see the differences from the xr!
One thing that really bugs me is the text size being bigger than it is on the xr even though the text size settings is set to the lowest v second lowest on the xr - can anyone explain how this is possible on a screen which is allegedly the same size?

Returning my new iPhone 12 Pro Max today. Very disappointed. Display quality issues and camera issues as well. I Will keep my iPhone X for another year maybe. Incredible.

Thought I’d try the standard 12 considering its essentially the same phone as the smaller pro apart from an extra camera, steel frame and ram. Maybe it’s just me but coming from an 11 pro max the display frame rate seems a lot smoother? Sure it’s still 60hz but maybe apple are doing something in the software.

Starting to change my mind! Night mode pictures are absolutely fantastic, the design and build (albeit in a clear case with screen protector!) is lovely and I am starting to see the benefits of the OLED screen. Frustrated by the battery and still getting used to the smaller size but am coming round to the idea of keeping it. May even try to 12pm side by side.

I'm blown away by the improvements in Portrait/low light on the 12 Pro. The lidar really does make a huge difference. As some may know, black cats are terrible subjects as their features tend to be lost due to dynamic range issues. This phone nailed the edge detection and was able to collect enough light to allow Mia's features to come through even though she was moving.

Super impressive.

Love the 12 pro but the battery is absolutely shocking; full charge at 6am today and now 3:10pm down to 33%, really awful. Ordered the 12pm to see if the extra battery, better camera offsets the extra size. I love the 12p but can't get on board with this battery life - if it is this bad at 2 weeks old, what will it be like after a year?!
