Wifey wants a 12 pro max. Goes on sale 7th November. Plus apple are offering a 24 months interest free deal locally.

The deal runs out 30th October.

:|

I’m pretty sure Apple will do the 24-month interest-free loan whenever you like, as long as you’re willing to pay for AppleCare and let them call it an Upgrade Program.

My XS Max was paid off last month, and honestly the AppleCare came in handy.

I think that 6GB of RAM is only for the 1TB Model because of how huge the storage is. I don’t know if 4GB is enough for 1TB of space due to memory management issues, which is why 512GB and below of 2018 iPad Pro could handle 4GB

unless someone can correct me

Put it this way, if 1TB storage needed 2GB extra RAM for whatever reason, then the 1TB iPad Pro (2020) would have 8GB. All iPad Pro models come with 6GB this year.

In short, Apple adds RAM when they think the user needs it. This year, they think iPhone Pro 12 users need it but not regular iPhone 12.

show me a car which you get 1/3 after 10 months, that’s ridiculous
Supply and demand. We take it for granted that technology is moving as fast as it is. Enjoy it, this wild ride won’t last forever. Stagnation, technological dead ends, misguided politicians, the economy, there will be a time it slows to a grinding halt.

another reason to keep my X and wait for the 13. 64gb same since the X as standard when by now it should be 128, now the ram doesnt change from the 11 to 12.

Even my SE2 keeps more apps that I haven’t opened since yesterday in ram. 4gb is still great on iPhones.

16GB of ram with the A14 processor running over 3GHZ you cam make the iPhone 12 a mini home computer
Just needs a docking station and hook ups to a monitor thru HDMI

Honestly that's what I am looking forward to , apple must make dockable ( like Galaxy note) with pen support etc.

I don’t think so, I would almost bet money that they are the same size. It’s a money grab.

no they actually explained it during the event. The bigger size of the Pro Max gives them more real estate for a larger image sensor etc

I was gonna go blue but from the reveal the blue looks dull compared to the earlier leaks that were a Navy blue. I'm definitely going with Gold.
So...I found this interesting. I was leaning for the gold, because (you might think this is dumb...) My favorite color is usually Orange. I was hoping to get an orange-like color. Sadly, we cannot see these before I commit on Friday. The Gold may be stunning....I do not know. Gold is not orange. What if I get the gold and it turns out it looks like a 1970's brass faucet...? I know they say in houses brass is coming back, but for me it just looks dated. A friend of mine just told me that the gold is "a bling-like female color". That was HIS words, not mine. After all that, I think I'll wuss out and order the iphone12Pro blue Friday. Unless they showed more pictures or I could see something that convinces me other-wise. Please...no bashing....

Why are you surprised? Apple has always been stingy with RAM. Their newest machine, the 27" iMac top spec still ships with 8GB of RAM! They know full well that anyone buying that machine needs more than 8GB of RAM. They simply want to up-sell us for profit. Not to mention they charge $200 additional for 16GB of RAM when you can go on Amazon and get 32GB of Ram for $150.
Yeah, but nobody is buying the iPhone 12 Pro for more RAM, and 6GB still isn't a lot, and previously there wasn't even an additional RAM option for iPhones.

Even 4GB is enough for a PC. The RPi4 usually has that much (though it goes up to 8). Before anyone brings up web browser tabs, hitting disk swap space to store tabs isn't so bad anymore now that it's not on an HDD.

Btw, the iPhone 11 Pro CPU already is faster per core than most desktop CPUs and not a whole lot slower multi-core, so it's not surprising Apple is putting their own ARM-based chips into Macs.

Plenty of tech heads will buy the Pro for more RAM and the proof is right here in this post:

Hmm. I was considering “downsizing” from the 11 Pro Max to one of the 6.1” models, now that both have larger LCD screens. A 6 GB Ram 12 Pro seems like a phone I could keep for a few years...
These news sealed the deal for me. I will be paying the $120 extra for the Pro at the 128gb capacity.
For the upgrade in ram, storage, materials, and camera the money is worth it. I'll be ordering a 12 Pro in Pacific Blue Friday 8 AM....
A Graphite 12 Pro 128GB should be a nice replacement for my XR especially with twice the RAM and other upgrades.
Another reason to justify upgrading to a pro max this year. 😂
Looking forward to ordering/receiving a ProMax

Six MacRumors posters aren't indicative of the general population.
Which is why I specified tech enthusiasts and not gen pop. Gen pop doesn't care about anything but price and battery life. Next time don't say "nobody is buying the device for the ram" when its' very clear there is a bocal minority here who will.

Ok, but you're saying Apple's strategy with RAM allocation is to get people to pay more for the extra RAM. They don't even say anywhere on their site how much RAM the iPhone has. They don't care about a few MR users.

Apples naming schemes always give me a chuckle. They really should ditch the number value associated to the phone. Just get it over with. Or do they intend to have a iPhone 24 at some point? Call the 12 Pro Max the 2020 iPhone Pro 6.7inch.

iPhone 44 Extreme Ultra Pro Max.

Yeah I was kinda hoping they'd ditch the numbers already. Leave the funny names for the tech specs.

Is the 12 Pro really that worth it compared to a 12?
I currently have a 7+ and want to upgrade to a 256GB iPhone. However, the difference between the 12 and 12Pro is about 150£, making it more than 1000£, which seems a lot.
I'm not a heavy heavy user, although I like to shoot the best quality possible since I'm a designer. I always managed to shot RAW on my 7+ with very good quality. so I guess the normal would do?
I don't see many advantages for the LiDAR yet, seems a bit software restricted...

At this point I'd prefer the cat names. Probably the worst iPhone name yet is the iPhone XS Max. Like, am I buying a modern premium Apple product or some 2005 sliding HTC phone?

I didn't say anything about Apple's strategy, you're intimating. I was replying to your comment that "nobody is buying the iPhone 12 Pro for more RAM" which is an objectively false statement as I showed you. Context matters. If you were speaking about general population, you should say that instead of using absolute phrases like "nobody". Cheers!

but sorry for not using precision language to indicate that I don't literally mean 0 people when I say "nobody."

I agree as well that largely it is apple’s decision for additional RAM per new device. But then the combination of hardware and software also plays a role too

and quite frankly I think it was a great move for apple on a point to give 2 extra GB of RAM to even further differentiate the Pro line from the Normal 12 line😁

That's actually a terrible idea to swap to NAND storage since it has finite write endurance compared to nearly infinite for DRAM.
