I noticed the same issue on my pro when looking at pure black on YouTube or in photos.

I tried out a show on Netflix called “Night on Earth” which is in DV and the blacks go to pure OLED black (pixels turned off) immediately. The first couple minutes of the show demonstrates this pretty well.
I have tried this. Yes when I let the video playing and when I get a full dark image it stays black, pixels are turned off. However if I touch the screen on that black video than it flickers/flashes.

Hate to say it but looks as though the iPhone 12 Line up was rushed to market
Yes I give Apple credit for even being able to bring a phone to market in the middle of a pandemic
The number of complaints is triple than in a normal year. Quality Control should have caught many of these issues
What all this means is that the iPhone 13 will have to be pristine and an iPhone that people ‘must have’ because the iPhone 12 lineup is what most people don’t want

Help me figure this out since I’m a noob to this...If my screen kind of like glows “grey” in dark on a black screen, then I have this issue? I’m not sure how else to best describe it...

Compared my 12 Pro Max to my old X and it definitely has the raised blacks (watching a black YouTube video). The only time I would ever notice this is if I’m in the complete darkness and the background is black. I hardly ever use my iPhone in complete darkness lol...

If you have dark mode enabled, will you get the raised blacks on the phone still? I haven’t noticed any with my Pro Max.

How can I identify the production week and the manufacturer of the display? Thank you for your help!

Yes.
You may don't have the issue or you can't see it.
I only have the raised blacks when being in complete darkness and watching a YouTube video with black background. I tried Dark Mode and it seemed fine to me.

I just did some more tests. I only see a “grey glow” on my screen when watching a black background YouTube video. If I watch a video in landscape mode, the black sides (that the video is between) will look black and not a “grey glow” issue. Weird...I will never be watching a black background video on YouTube, so maybe I’ll just let it go.

Bought an iPhone 12 yesterday, production week 38, came with iOS 14.1, screen is completely black (whether dark mode is on or off) in a pitch black room. Screen serial starts with GVC.

Production Week 45 (12 Pro) has this issue. Although, it didn't seem to have this at first...I believe it developed over time (not sure if it was with 14.2 to 14.3 either)

just got a replacement today For the raised blacks. Couldn’t check it in the Apple store obviously. And here at home side by side comparison with my roommates 12pm. still same issue. Mine is week 45 his is week 48. Donno if the week makes any difference. TT and night filter disabled on both. Both on 14.3

When I switch on the video to see the blacks, it flickers for a second green but then goes complete black. So my conclusion is it a software issue

Checked now with 3utools the Serials from display panels.

1st iPhone 12 pro, 39/2020, Sn: F17DG, Panel Sn: G9P0356 (Date 2020-08-29)
2nd iPhone 12 pro, 49/2020, Sn: F17DT, Panel SN: G9P0466 (Date 2020-11-14)
3rd iphone 12 pro, 50/2020, SN, F17DV, Panel SN: G9P0491 (Date 2020-11-30)

All three had/have raised blacks and look yellow. I will leave the 12 Series out and wait for the 13.
I'm no longer interested in this lottery.
Hope Apple does not make this mistake again with the 13 Pro.
