Right. With the Batman figurine.
Wow. You should send it to Apple and hope someone higher can get it there because this picture sums up the issues. Not sure if yellow tint is related to this or separate though. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah I am planning on showing to Apple support tomorrow before going in for my Genius Bar appointment day after. I think it might related. I find my roommates 12PM to be cooler than both my iPhone 12PMs. But it’s definitely not cooler like older amoled on XSMax. Most new screens these days like my note 10+ seem warmer than previous generations. As long as it not too much yellow that it changes the color rendering it’s should be okay.

Good luck this week. looks like you’ll be busy! I hope all of us can get one like your roommate’s if there’ll be a replacement program..

You can add me to this list also please. I just viewed the below YouTube video full screen in a dark room, adjusted the iPhone brightness levels and on certain values around 50% the video flickers dark grey to black. I ran the same test on my note 20 ultra with no issues. All gizmos were turned off , True Tone, accessibility , auto brightness etc

iPhone 12 mini, production week 43. Results:
  • Tested with a pure black image in Photos app. View image full screen, then wait for the "home indicator" bar to disappear so everything is black.
  • The issue only occurs at brightness levels below 50%. Above 50% brightness, pure black is always pure black.
  • Below 50%, you initially see a dimm screen which for some reason still turns pure black after a some seconds. It should always be pure black though, so it could be a software issue.
  • Because of the PWM display, I hardly ever run my screen below 50% to prevent eyestrain. When enabling "Reduce whitepoint", the issue also appears at levels slightly above 50% brightness.

Where do I enable “reduce brightness “? My 12 pro max is too bright at night when I have all dark mode, TT, and night shift on with brightness all the way down. It might be related to raised black thing.

I meant "Reduce whitepoint". By doing that you can indeed go lower than the minimum brightness. To do this, go to Settings --> Accessibility --> Display & text size --> "Reduce whitepoint", enable it and set it to your desired level.

I also created a shortcut to quickly turn this on/off though Control Center. How to do that specifically, is excellently described here.

Would like to see some photographic evidence in a dark room from people claiming unaffected at any brightness. More likely they just don’t notice.

Thank you! i created a shortcut in control center and will try it out tonight.

You can see the image I posted in the last page. My roommate’s 12PM doesn’t have the issue. All brightness levels. I can tell for sure because I have mine right next to it similar brightness levels displaying the raised blacks. Personally I have seen 5 12PMs Out of which 3 have the issue, 1 doesn’t and 1 i Never checked but has stronger yellow tint that others. At this point I feel like the ones with perfectly good screens seem to be the ”lemons” .

Spoke to Apple support today. He said he’s hearing bout this for the first time. Weird, considering the news article on macrumors saying they have an internal memo regarding this issue. I showed him the pics of the comparison between the 2 12PM which he took a screenshot to add to the case file. suggested I do a reset using iTunes and check for the isssue with out signing into my Apple account to rule out any software related glitch. Doing that now. Most likely it won’t solve anything. Hopefully I get a good replacement tomorrow at the Genius Bar appointment.

Did the reset and the problem still persisted. Called back Apple support again to report it. This time the lady I spoke to told me that Apple is aware of the issue that is randomly happening on some devices and the only option she said is to take it into an Apple store for service( which will be replacement in my case hence it’s a brand new phone she said). So I suggest anyone seeing the issue and bothered by it just get it replaced right now. If you are waiting it out and Apple does fix it in a future update through software then well and good. If not you might be getting a screen/device replacement later on. :)

Pointless. I’ve had three devices during the last week all the same. As is my wife’s pro Max bought 2 weeks earlier.

Not really. If the replacement is from a newer/good batch it might not have the issue. I hope I get one like my roommate. 🤞

My new 12 PM does it, less visible than de first one bought at launch that I returned but still. I don’t know if I return it and buy I new one or live with it... that lottery is tiring, and I don’t know my chances of getting a non raised black one

True. It is tiring. I’m on my third. But the first two from the same batch. Third was from a batch that was 2 weeks later but a different plant. Let’s see the 4th one tomorrow

Good luck with your endeavors, like I mentioned my three units do this as does my wife’s which isn’t in the “same batch “.
I for one can’t be bothered with wasting gas and time swapping out iPhones. The reason my first one went back was due to display unevenness, second had a mashed up gold frame out of the box. QC sucks. Yet on all 4 including wife’s one they flicker on certain brightness levels on pitch black scenes.

Is what we’re talking about or are you talking about green tint? Because if it’s green tint. Then yes some have it more than others.

Thanks. I know it’s just not one bad batch of phones. My replacement is from a different batch and a different factory. It’s seems wider spread than it seems. Hence I said a newer/good batch.

I have both the issues. Also greys look green at the lowest brightness. One of my friends also has raised black but he doesn’t care since he never observed it personally cause he uses his phone at higher brightness in mostly lit up areas. But my use case is different. My most screen time is at less than 30% brightness and in night. So yeah it matters for me that I have a phone that works as it’s supposed to at those settings too.

Yep greys look green. Hell even viewing Facebook in dark mode or even this Mac rumors forums in dark mode I can see it slight green tint in the dark gray areas.

My last one did and the new one I got a that's a G0 serial is good. Very uniform as well with a better display than the 11 pro max I had. My wife's is greenish but she doesn't notice as she doesn't use dark mode.

All three G0 serials I’ve had show slight green tint. Some worst than others but still present.

My G0 is uniform and kinda good. The green tint at low brightness might be here, I don’t know actually, it’s grey but maybe a tiny bit green too. Anyway not too bad. But it also has a slight green glow/raised blacks with some flickering at some mid-low brightness lvl and that’s what bother me. Apart from that I would keep that screen
