'iPhone 13' May Have a Smaller Notch

Just de-notch the phone. Rather have a slim 5 mm or so bezel across the top and have full screen be rectoval than have video and other elements notched. Come on.

No thanks. Most of us don't notice the notch, and appreciate that the corners can be used for status icons instead of taking up usable screen space.

How? The problem with so many of these rumours is that they are completely baseless.

It was the same with shorter notch, there are no component that could be merged as one to save width. Hence why the speaker grill make sense. ( As it was speculated before )

Not sure how this rumor could be baseless. It does include a hand drawn cartoon comparing the difference in notch sizes.

Tim Cook is NO visionary...where are the innovators that Apple had working for them?...they all left....don't get me wrong..I'll be upgrading because I'm on the Upgrade Program, but we all know this will be yet another incremental "upgrade"

The innovation is moving to under screen finger print sensor, and under screen cameras. Not sure what Apple is innovating on? Making earlier versions slower?

Hmmm what about TouchID, think it would be wise for it to come back on the 12 models but obviously, it's Apple and can't deviate too much from the original design plan at a few months notice. As much as I'd love a new iPhone not sure if I should wait or just buy it and sell it a year later for an upgrade.

a REAL innovation would be 5-10x optical zoom...other phone makers already have this...I'm sure Apple will EVENTUALLY have this..but in about 3-5 years.....let's face it...Tim reached the end of the list Steve gave him....Ive is gone.....new recruits needed badly!

"PRO" apps on ipad would be a huge innovation...Logic Audio etc...

I know generally everyone here is anti android/samsung but how does the Note series have such a small pin hole with their flagship phones for Face ID but apple is unable to make theirs smaller?

Because they don’t have face id, it’s just a camera. Only other phone with it was huawei afaik.

Why? Because it is 2020 and many other companies that don't have anything close to Apple in terms of money, engineering resources, designers, etc... were able to eliminate the notch on their phones. Apple is just plain lazy and don't care anymore.

There is a good chance that Apple doesn't want to change it, it is a way to tell if a phone is an iPhone or some other phone. If every phone had no notch, and a case, how would you tell that it is an iPhone. Apple has done this with most of their products, white cords on headphones, and colors of Macs, all distinguishable as Apple. The notch is actually a branding symbol at this point. I've never met anyone who has the notch and complains about it, so why would they change it.

I dont get it. Why is everyone so obsessed with the notch? I couldn't care less if it is cut in half or stay as is.
For me size, screen, speed and above all battery life, are key items I care abut.

Because it's awful design (hole punch, notches) Thin bezels are and were fine when compared to cutting into the screen just for them to say they have a huge screen. Those other elements are extremely important as well. They just need to do it with a normal screen.

Yea, just like the 120hz displays that were supposed to be on THIS year's models too right? What happened Apple? They are going to put out the most expensive iPhone ever with none of the upgrades we were expecting. Pass. Much better options out there for less money.
