I don't think dropping pixels from the top of the display is the optimal solution, although it is an interesting idea (at least you can see all of the status icons). I can't help but feel that the physical arrangement of components is the issue. Like I said, I don't mind a bezel - particularly if it adds to battery capacity.

I don't think dropping pixels from the top of the display is the optimal solution, although it is an interesting idea (at least you can see all of the status icons). The notch is nothing but a stupid design compromise to make the iPhone smaller. I hate it and I want it out.

The "notch" is ridiculous. From the beginning it should never have masked any portion of an app's display. The usable screen for apps should have remained the largest rectangle with no cutout while the OS used the pair of "rabbit ear" extensions for use by indicators/icons. It would have made a lot more sense, and likely never been such a topic of discussion.

I'm an Apple fan, with an iPhone, but I have to say... by the time Apple comes out with a slightly smaller notch, probably all Android phone will be completely notch-less. The Google pixel is an example.
To be fair, the Google Pixel has no design language they follow. It's like every year the phone is made by a whole other team.
Everyone isn’t ‘obsessed about the notch‘. It’s the select few members on sites like this they ‘yell and shout’ that the iPhone would X would fail when the notch first debuted in 2017. Well, it didn’t. Others seem to forget it guises some of the most Advanced biometric security in the tech industry.
Consumers aren’t discussing the notch, it’s a non-issue and has always been. I’ve never met anyone who has complained about the notch, because it’s such a trivial topic when you look above how advanced Face ID really is.
The iPhone 12 event is going to suck so hard I guess. Well maybe I have to keep my X.
I know generally everyone here is anti android/samsung but how does the Note series have such a small pin hole with their flagship phones for Face ID but apple is unable to make theirs smaller?
Having those sensors and eliminating the notch are not mutually exclusive. It's only Apple fetish with bezels that makes a solution problematical.
The article discussion of the reduced notch and my reply to that member is referring to the Notch in general being a non-issue, not the elimination of the notch . So what you’re saying actually, is not ‘mutually exclusive’ in what I was inferring.

It depends on how proportional your forehead and chin are. 😂
I don't think hole punch cameras are bad either, but only if there is no forehead, doesn't make since to have both.
