The article discussion of the reduced notch and my reply to that member is referring to the Notch in general being a non-issue, not the elimination of the notch . So what you’re saying actually, is not ‘mutually exclusive’ in what I was inferring.

Perhaps if you wrote more concisely... :p I know many people who find the notch inelegant and problematical. Tell me how it makes any sense that you can't see the VPN status - something crucial if you are handling sensitive information.

I only upgraded to an iPhone 11 Pro early this year from an iPhone 6S and though I thought the notch would bother me, it turned out to not bother me at all. I actually find it easier to tell which side the camera is on. In the 6S my reference point was the home button. With the iPhone 11 Pro, my reference point is the notch. It's kind like watching a movie in a theater. If you allow yourself to get lost in the movie then your brain can tune out what is happening around you and you don't even notice there are other people there. If you just concentrate on what you're doing on the phone, the notch just disappears and is no longer a big issue.

how is this even a story macrumors.

Next iphone will be released in Sept 2021

Next iphone will have a better camera.

Ugh, this is what sucks about rumor sites, constant rumors about products more then a year off.

iPhone rumors should only start after Christmas and stick to that years model unless it’s an actual interesting rumor.

smaller notch does not qualify as rumor worthy!
And it's extra annoying because we don't even have any 12s in customers' hands yet

Am I the only one that actually likes the notch?
I'm neutral on it but I would rather just have it gone than change the size. Only possible plus being smaller is maybe we can see the battery % on the status bar again.

It's a tragedy that the iPhone 12 is rumoured to have the same sized notch as when it first debuted on the iPhone X, from several years ago...

Most of the tech-head Youtubers say that a smaller notch isn't good enough. They want it to be gone completely. I really don't see what the big deal is with having a notch but I suppose if you need to compare it with other smartphones, I understand their beef. I think Face ID is very important and if it requires a notch, then so be it. I prefer function over form and that notch is definitely functional. I think it's nice that Apple is using a slim fingerprint reader on the iPad Air but I can live with a notch as I quickly adjust to those sorts of things. The notch sets the iPhone apart from other smartphones, so I think that's rather good for Apple.

This is your counter argument? ‘I know many people.....

Ok? Not even remotely related to my point about the technology that houses behind the notch, but if you want to keep pushing the narrative of ‘I know many people‘, it really doesn’t hold much weight in terms of the actual Technology at hand.

Back in late September of 2019, Ben Deskin made some cool renders of what the 12 would look like based on some leaks at the time, where instead of a notch the True Depth system was shrunk down to fit into the top of the bezel. It looks really great and I'm hoping that's what Apple will surprise us with in 2021, no notch, 120Hz & Touch ID would sell me in an instant.

Apple plans out their tech at least two gens ahead so it's not impossible that a notchless phone is prototyped somewhere in some stage of development as we speak. But let's just wait and see if the 12 really wows us first before we jump ship lol

In 2021 the iphone 13 will be called iphone 14 because of the unlucky number 13.
Yea hopefully they learned their lesson on naming an iOS with 13

If i recall correctly, a smaller notch and 120Hz were both rumored for the iPhone 12 about a year ago.

I suspect we might be giving leakers too much credit. I suspect that this leak on the smaller notch and the leak on the 120Hz screen happening next year might be a controlled leak by Apple to manage expectation on the iPhone 12 that is to be released on 10/13. That gives Apple/iPhone fanatics enough time to vent on this (and other) forums and get over the "bad" news before the actual product is released.

Can you imagine the outrage among iPhone fanatics on 10/13 if they begin watching the keynote fully expecting to see an iPhone 12 with a smaller notch and a 120Hz screen, not see one? The narrative afterwards would be very negative.

Now, with these controlled leaks, I suspect that even some of the fanatics that were mad just a few days/weeks before the announcement of the iPhone 12 due to rumors of missing features/enhancements, end up buying one regardless.

Side note: Rumors say Apple managed to make the notch on the 5.4" model narrower. Why can't they just slap that narrower notch on the 6.1" and 6.7" screens?

Why? Because it is 2020 and many other companies that don't have anything close to Apple in terms of money, engineering resources, designers, etc... were able to eliminate the notch on their phones. Apple is just plain lazy and don't care anymore.
feels like apple is not making the notch size smaller and not putting 120Hz because apple thinks why they would add 120Hz and make notch smaller if it would cost extra in its production when they can simply not add those and people will still buy iphone even without 120hz and same notch size.

In 2021 the iphone 13 will be called iphone 14 because of the unlucky number 13.

Or just 12S. Ain't that gonna be lame. An iteration of an iteration of an iteration of an iteration. And then the rumour mill will promise the next best thing is REALLY gonna come in 2022. Rinse and repeat.

Every year I have the same response I will have to see what is offered. However at this time, my thinking is that I am gonna keep my iPhone 11 and enjoy it for another year or two.

Definitely not rumor worthy. I have no issue with the notch right now as clearly technology isn't ready for Apple to remove it. It's obvious that that within the next 5 years the iPhone will go notch-less and we will be able to enjoy full screen with FaceID.

wasn't all the news pointing to iphone 12 as a magical re-design??...all rumors say it's a totally incremental change...a retro iphone 4 design that has 5g?.....that doesnt excite people....Tim Cook is NO visionary...where are the innovators that Apple had working for them?...they all left....don't get me wrong..I'll be upgrading because I'm on the Upgrade Program, but we all know this will be yet another incremental "upgrade"
