There is no absolute resounding and wise answer on upgrade decisions. Every individual makes a choice and maybe more than half of us will make the “wrong” choice every other time we choose to do something :).

So it all equals out.

Rich guy holds off, pinching pennies for no reason other than to brag about thrift. Meanwhile, broke student guy “buys now and pays later”. And who knows or can judge when the best time to upgrade is anyways?

If the iPhone 14 has a satellite texter feature, it’s gonna save lives - so maybe everyone should get one right? Out of this world tech!

Hey yeah. F* the climate!

Agree with you or Apple should just leave it like this. No need to separate it. Keep it simple and aesthetic.

The pill and hole punch is a design decision to keep pushing apple‘s brand. so in this case if you tilt the phone horizontally the pill and hole punch form a lower case “i“ for iPhone

Of course you should upgrade. Preferably to one of the unique colors so that everyone else knows you upgraded. And then they also upgrade in order to keep up!

I have an XR and I'm not considering spending the money. I always love watching the events to see what I will eventually get when I do upgrade (don't get me wrong, the new stuff is amazing) but I'm not considering spending any money until the 16 Pro at least and software support at most.

Negative, Ghostrider the pattern is full. I'll keep my X for one more year and wait for the 15 and USB C.

Yea or I always think of how when I learned CPR long ago, they said to get help. But what if you aren't near anyone. I guess you keep going until they shake it off or die? At least now you can contact 911 unless you are absolutely in the middle of nowhere
Yah. “You in the blue shirt….”

This satellite feature is already available as a separate radio device for $400 but now it might be something we all have available in case we get surprised on an off grid adventure.

I’m gonna cut my hair with a pill and hole punch I guess instead of the notch haircut I’m rocking right now.

I suppose Samsung will have a new phone copying it as well. Haha.

And surprisingly there’s actually cellular dead spots that are not off grid. But this is especially useful if you’re traveling internationally to places that don’t have the same quality cellular infrastructure

The only other use case I can think of is if you’re near a cell tower with too much traffic like at the end of a work day when everyone is using their phones, if the transition to a satellite 🛰 call is seamless that could help as well. Depends on how it’s implemented on the phone

Yep. Unlimited data plan 4G SIM card might only cost $9 USD per month in middle Asia but if you are moving around you soon find you phone no longer works and if you don’t speak languages you might be easily out of service. Then if you decide to go camping in the Himalayas or Tian Shan mountains you’ll soon be far far away from McDonald’s wifi. It takes nothing to be in a dead spot in most of the world. It’s a big round ball with many dead spots. Not everyone goes to those places but when you are there you can see that many actually do - so satellite anything feature is strongly welcomed.

My 7 Plus went for an hour long swim while in my pocket last week, so I'm definitely ready for an upgrade. I can't wait, but I'm sure my wallet wishes I could.

I feel like people who upgrade every year are just chasing the dragon at this point. The leaps were significant from model to model in the early years and upgrading was exciting. But now? Seriously? The upgrades are incremental and 99% of phone users don't even take advantage of the full computational power of the device. Not even close.

Upgrading every year is just an addiction at this point, which is fine if you're a techie. I get it. But articles like this are silly and a total waste of words. There's absolutely no compelling case for upgrading from the previous model year other than "I love tech and I just want the latest and greatest". That sums it up.

Poll: "What is the main reason you won't upgrade to iPhone 13?"
We have to argue with the data we have. It’s better than doing it based on nothing. If only 2.9% of people who didn’t buy an iPhone say it’s because of USB-C, that shows it’s almost irrelevant.

And yet this is the top rated post in the thread
Yes, in the Macrumors comments section. But general population? Almost no one cares or even know about USB-C. And it makes total sense: people care about features, design, etc., not about a connector.
