Unlikely the camera is meant to shift. It’s just shifting too fast and causing a noise. Will this damage the camera if I test it with instagram?
Lol no one has reported it on the iOS camera app.I can for sure say - this is a hardware issue.
The issue seems to also be happening in the iOS camera app, but as it seems they use OIS quite differently, than any other app. Therefore it is not partially as bad as third party apps. If it would be only a software-side issue, it would be easily reproducible.
What does this mean - Apple has 2 options:
Apple could fix the OIS, to limit its movement. It would fix the issue, but the stabilization would be worse. As the phone is meant for professional customers, this would not be an option.
- Announce a "software fix"
- Open up a camera repair program
They now have to identify, what part is causing the issue, and which batch is affected. And this could take a long time. (maybe its even regional)
My advice:
If you have absolutely no issues - don't return the phone. Apple has to figure out what's wrong, and identify all affected models. If the model may have the issue, they will replace it for free.
If you have the issue - replace your phone as long as your in the return window. Even if this happened only once, and maybe even only on a third party app.
I think they are trying to say that the Apple Camera app can work around the issue due to stabilization.Lol no one has reported it on the iOS camera app.
Well, they did. The OIS is not moving rapidly, as shown in the video. But it still makes a weird noise, which should not happen.Lol no one has reported it on the iOS camera app.
Proof…. Have not heard this at all. And if so how do you all test thatWell, they did. The OIS is not moving rapidly, as shown in the video. But it still makes a weird noise, which should not happen.
I've never shot video outside of the stock app or ProCamera or Filmic Pro. Will definitely avoid third party apps until this is resolved. What about if I don’t use those three mentioned apps?
it definitely has to be a software issue at this point. A software issue that is detectable on bad hardware maybe?Same lol. Hopefully TikTok and the other affected apps will issue updates this week to fix it. I think it’s the new sensor shift sensor that is causing it and the apps do not know how to deal with it. WhatsApp and Instagram seem to be fine, I don’t use Snapchat but TikTok did cause some minor shaking so I uninstalled it for now.
LMAO..Updates i tired the issue on my M1 Max macbook pro installed snap and instagram same issue seems software unless my mac is broken too.
And not to sound like a sales rep, but definitely get Apple Care.I can for sure say - this is a hardware issue.

If you own a 14 Pro, open the stock camera app - tap on video - and hold the main sensor near your ear. A light static noise should be normal. A rattling noise means a bad OIS, and that's what some people are mentioning online. I am not sure wether its true or not. But it is proven that the camera gets permanently damaged by the issue.Proof…. Have not heard this at all. And if so how do you all test that
It absolutely makes sense, if you plan on using the phone for a long time. But in a case like this, everyone will be treated the same, no matter how much you have paid, or what insurance you chose. And not to sound like a sales rep, but definitely get Apple Care.
So I have to pay for an insurance to fix a defective equipment that I bought for $1,300.00 and got 3 days ago? That’s your recommendation? And not to sound like a sales rep, but definitely get Apple Care.
Tried this on my 14 Pro. No noise from the sensor at all. Video on screen looked fine.If you own a 14 Pro, open the stock camera app - tap on video - and hold the main sensor near your ear. Good thing in the EU there is 2 year warranty. And not to sound like a sales rep, but definitely get Apple Care.
It seems the cameras are just bad in every way. I have the shaking issue, I saw it first on snap but now it’s not happening. Then I saw it in instagram. It’s not easy to reproduce, I don’t know what’s causing it. Other thing is the cameras are so slow in third part apps. Just changing from the front facing camera to the back camera on instagram will take 2 to 3 secondsI tested this in every app and I can’t hear any noise. The only thing that sometimes happens is recording a video in Snapchat after a few seconds will get blurry then refocus. I think that is unrelated to this issue?
Yes I’ve noticed that too. But still no noise. So we are good? LolIt seems the cameras are just bad in every way. I have the shaking issue, I saw it first on snap but now it’s not happening. Sure, why would anyone expect a 1000+ dollar device to work properly right? Just spend even more so you can be sure that you’re covered from Apple’s mistakes. And not to sound like a sales rep, but definitely get Apple Care.
Same I hear nothing at all in a pitch silent room. No white noise etcTried this on my 14 Pro. No noise from the sensor at all. Video on screen looked fine.
Didn’t know about this. Makes sense but it does say “, long-term direct exposure to high-amplitude vibrations within certain frequency ranges may degrade the performance of these systems and lead to reduced image quality for photos and videos. It is recommended to avoid exposing your iPhone to extended high-amplitude vibrations. “Maybe.
Apple released a support document saying vibrations can kill the OIS (i.e. break the camera) and this bug is causing vibrations, so .... (2+2=5? who knows).
Exposure to vibrations, such as those generated by high-powered motorcycle engines, may impact iPhone cameras – Apple Support (UK)

I hear nothing either. It may depend on how to make the camera specially use that camera.. or was the vibrations coming from the main camera?Same I hear nothing at all in a pitch silent room. No white noise etc
