iPhone 14 Pro Camera Shaking and Vibrating in Apps Like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram for Some Users

I can for sure say - this is a hardware issue.

The issue seems to also be happening in the iOS camera app, but as it seems they use OIS quite differently, than any other app. Therefore it is not partially as bad as third party apps. If it would be only a software-side issue, it would be easily reproducible.

What does this mean - Apple has 2 options:
  1. Announce a "software fix"
  2. Open up a camera repair program
Apple could fix the OIS, to limit its movement. It would fix the issue, but the stabilization would be worse. As the phone is meant for professional customers, this would not be an option.

They now have to identify, what part is causing the issue, and which batch is affected. And this could take a long time. (maybe its even regional)

My advice:

If you have absolutely no issues - don't return the phone. Apple has to figure out what's wrong, and identify all affected models. If the model may have the issue, they will replace it for free.

If you have the issue - replace your phone as long as your in the return window. Even if this happened only once, and maybe even only on a third party app.

Lol no one has reported it on the iOS camera app.

Same lol. Hopefully TikTok and the other affected apps will issue updates this week to fix it. I think it’s the new sensor shift sensor that is causing it and the apps do not know how to deal with it. WhatsApp and Instagram seem to be fine, I don’t use Snapchat but TikTok did cause some minor shaking so I uninstalled it for now.
it definitely has to be a software issue at this point. A software issue that is detectable on bad hardware maybe?

The cámara is so damn slow in any app that is not the camera app

Updates i tired the issue on my M1 Max macbook pro installed snap and instagram same issue seems software unless my mac is broken too.
LMAO..

Your MacBook's webcam doesn't have OIS. Therefore this issue is impossible on there..

Even if the issue was possible, the Mac App Store doesn't offer Snapchat or Instagram, even on Apple Silicon.

😬

And not to sound like a sales rep, but definitely get Apple Care.

Well, even if you remove however many pages of folks saying it's a WFH issue or even people blaming China for this, I bet we'd still be at about 10 pages of genuine complaints. And considering ALL of the other issues plaguing the iPhone 14 Pro & Pro Max, I'd bet we don't see an update soon. Maybe later in the week, but most likely later than that. I hope I'm wrong.

Will this damage the camera if I test it with instagram?
Maybe.

Apple released a support document saying vibrations can kill the OIS (i.e. break the camera) and this bug is causing vibrations, so .... (2+2=5? who knows).

Proof…. Have not heard this at all. And if so how do you all test that
If you own a 14 Pro, open the stock camera app - tap on video - and hold the main sensor near your ear. A light static noise should be normal. A rattling noise means a bad OIS, and that's what some people are mentioning online. I am not sure wether its true or not. But it is proven that the camera gets permanently damaged by the issue.

I sadly cannot test it right now, as my 14 Pro is still in delivery. So I have to rely on others.

It absolutely makes sense, if you plan on using the phone for a long time. But in a case like this, everyone will be treated the same, no matter how much you have paid, or what insurance you chose.

I tested this in every app and I can’t hear any noise. The only thing that sometimes happens is recording a video in Snapchat after a few seconds will get blurry then refocus. I think that is unrelated to this issue?

Tried this on my 14 Pro. No noise from the sensor at all. Video on screen looked fine.

It seems the cameras are just bad in every way. I have the shaking issue, I saw it first on snap but now it’s not happening. Then I saw it in instagram. It’s not easy to reproduce, I don’t know what’s causing it. Other thing is the cameras are so slow in third part apps. Just changing from the front facing camera to the back camera on instagram will take 2 to 3 seconds

Yes I’ve noticed that too. But still no noise. So we are good? Lol

Didn’t know about this. Makes sense but it does say “, long-term direct exposure to high-amplitude vibrations within certain frequency ranges may degrade the performance of these systems and lead to reduced image quality for photos and videos. It is recommended to avoid exposing your iPhone to extended high-amplitude vibrations. “

A few seconds on tik tok isn’t long term.
