Apple began accepting pre-orders for the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max today, and shipping estimates for the devices on Apple's online store are already beginning to slip into October for many configurations.

As of 5:30 a.m. Pacific Time in the U.S., the iPhone 15 Pro Max was facing a 2-3 week shipping estimate for many configurations on Apple's online store, while the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Plus faced shorter to no delays.

Inventory will inevitably continue to tighten for both delivery and Apple Store pickup as the day progresses, so order quickly if you are planning to.

As is common when iPhone pre-orders begin, some customers have encountered errors while attempting to place their orders on Apple's website or in the Apple Store app, amid the influx in demand. The issues will likely resolve as the day progresses.

iPhone 15 Pro models have several new features, including a USB-C port, lightweight titanium frame, customizable Action button, faster A17 Pro chip manufactured with a 3nm process, up to 5x optical zoom on the Pro Max model, thinner bezels around the screen, Wi-Fi 6E support, an increased 8GB of RAM, and much more.

The devices will launch in stores and begin arriving to customers on Friday, September 22.

Quoted the wrong post
Was supposed to be in response to someone saying just go to store launch day.

This would be good if you live reasonably close to an Apple Store and can take the time off to go. I don’t have that luxury. The closest store is about 2 hours away. Probably closer to 2.5 hours with the commuter traffic.

For the last couple of years you could not get a phone at the store UNLESS you had an online reservation.

Like years past, the shipping dates could change. A couple years ago mine was a few weeks out and then around launch day I got notice that my date changed and it was a day or two after launch.
I'm hoping that's the case (I've always been able to get launch-day delivery). I tried right at 8am EST with the app and couldn't get through until about 8:05. And then, it kept throwing up an error saying that my saved config for preorder couldn't be retrieved. Then I tried going through and ordering it like normal, and it wouldn't add to cart. Tried through Safari and Edge during the same time with similar errors.

Eventually, my order went through at about 8:25, but by then, I got the 10/4 - 10/9 shipping notice. Hopefully, I can get it sooner, but it won't be the end of the world.

It's not like it's life or death if I have to wait two weeks to get my new $1,300 iPhone 15 Pro Max. We're all spoiled brats -- true first-world problems :p

Ordered in the UK through phone app after trying website and iPad. Ordered at 13:07, delayed to 27 Sep - 2 Oct for 256GB Pro Max Natural

Imagine making an appointment to stand in line to pick up a phone 💀💀
I’ve done it before. It usually takes about 10-15 minutes. They tend to insist that you wait until your allotted time window (though one time I was picking up 2 items, the latter with a later time slot, and they let me pick up both).

Pretty much had the same experience. Not too worked up about it as long as my phone comes before my cross-country flight in late October.

Demand this high? How does it compare to previous years? 14 Pro Max only slipped to October as far as I remember during the pre-order to release period.
It’s hard to say. Lots of models seem to be available for launch day pickup. Maybe they released the in-store pickup today (last year they waited until launch day) and changed the mix of in-store vs. shipping.

I'll be curious to see how the numbers settle for this release. With AT&T (and I'm assuming other carriers) spreading out their iPhone subsidies across 36 months, I'd have to pay $400+ to upgrade my 13 Pro Max. I'll wait until next years model.

there is a big wave of us on iPhone 12 whose 36 months were up earlier this year in April or May, so the 36 months definitely sucks and it was tough to sit out the 13 and 14, but worth the wait.

By far the worst experience for me preordering in a while and I do it every year.
The store didn’t open until 7:10 for me.
My pre config or whatever. Wouldn’t load.. errored out repeatedly when I tried to start over a do a trade saying the iPhone trade failed to load. That went on for 10 minutes. ATT upgrade check crashed.

Meanwhile on my iPad and Mac store was still loading @ 7:30… managed to do it from safari on my phone for an instore pick up… it was already in October for the one I originally wanted

I set my alarm this morning at 4:45, woke up early to the point of turning it off, and then just waited and refreshed and was able to get my Phone on Launch Day at the Apple Store. I wouldn't say it was pain free, but I'm glad I did it that way. It is amazing to me though that a trillion dollar company can't really handle the demand of preorders that well. Maybe it's part of their bait and switch game every year, but its amazing how in 2023, the process is the same as if it was 2014. It should be easier every year, not painful every year.
