Yep. You are at the mercy of UPS and the delivery requires a signature, at least it used to. Last year I got home from work late and found a Sorry We Missed You sticker on my door. It was a nightmare from there. It said they "might" try tomorrow but for best results go to the UPS delivery center to pick up delivery. So I went there and there were over 50 folks waiting for phones that had missed deliveries. They had two people working to check you in and then you had to wait for the driver who had your phone to get to the the delivery center from his normal route, check in and get the packages off his truck. Needless to say 90 minutes waiting AFTER the driver got back to the center. Never again.
I believe you can pre-sign for it if you have UPS My Choice...

Gotta have the web site and the Apple Store app. Placed at store.apple.com at 8:03AM... the Apple Store app didn't work until like 8:45, but my wife was getting a pink 15, so that wasn't Pro Max level demand.

Around here, the local UPS guys won't even leave it if pre-signed. People snatch these things and Apple puts a lot of pressure on UPS to get signature on delivery for iPhones specifically.

I’ll be at one of the Apple stores in line on the 22nd. Tried to Pre-Order a 256gb Natural Titanium Max but shipping dates were already October 9-22 and no store pick up availability

Between people I know in person and people on social media, I really get the impression that a lot of people are very excited for the iPhone 15 Pro.

What is the point of waking up early to spend $2,000 on a new phone when the Apple Store app keeps crashing for an HOUR and it’s SOLD OUT by the time it finally works?

Apple, you are a trillion dollar company. FIX YOUR PRE-ORDERS.

It’s been like this every year for the last several years.

I’m deleting worthless Apple Store App. I suggest using the web store instead.

I got the Blue Pro Max for launch day delivery, but this was the first year in a while that I had to do it via the website. The whole "pre order" process failed on the iPhone app this year for me.

Next Friday I can have the ceremonial shredding of my lighting cables, no more pulling out a USB-C cable to charge my Pro Max, then wishing I had paid more attention when I grabbed it... 😀

Besides the freedom to change carriers, when you travel you can get a local number if your phone is unlocked. You also have the option of selling it before your two year carrier contract is finished.
So if you don't travel that often, the only perk is that you're not locked for 2+ years. Got it, thanks.

Are you aware that people with phones other than iphone 14 exist?
what are you talking about? of course I do, I've been saying that all week (not expecting you to know my post history). people like me on iPhone 12 are very very excited about this release.

Only thing tying me to the Apple store directly is the trade-in option. Otherwise Best Buy has it available for launch day pickup. Shoot. I forgot to set my alarm to land the pre-order, but it looks like after reading through the comments that wasn’t necessarily a guarantee to land one on launch day. I believe last year additional pickup inventory went live the morning of launch day and I was able to checkout & select a pickup window, don’t remember, will have to try again next week.

What's the point of waking up early, hammering refresh on multiple devices, buying an iPhone you didn't even want (256 vs 128), going to carrier websites because Apple's isn't working, just to buy a shiny new iPhone?
